It doesn't really scale up very well. The Israelis and Palestinians played around with this briefly, I think it was around the early 1970s, and they blew off a lot of each others' fingers. But if you just put in place stricter security measures it's not that hard to beat. Uncle Ted had the advantage that his motive for blowing people up was basically that they didn't live in a cabin, so it was one guy picking targets out of 250 million people at random. If it was more than one guy doing it for a non-schizo purpose it would have been shut down much faster like other groups from the era: psycho Croatians, Weathermen, Macheteros, black nationalists, white nationalists, &ct.

There was that one "documentary" recently that whitewashed the Rajneeshis and portrayed them as misguided "idealistic" children who had their hearts in the right places. But Uncle Ted isn't gonna get that same treatment. There's a lot of reasons for this that would take as many as 2 paragraphs for me to explain, but I'll keep it short and just point out that the people who ran the media in that era were from New York and just as out of touch with America as NYC is now. Camera work looks cheap. For instance the shot where he detonates the charge in the cave, why would they cut at the moment of the explosion like that? I don't know shit and I'd do a better job on that shot: Have him face away from the cave, keep the camera on him, leave space for the explosion. The explosion erupts out of the cave behind him, filling the rest of the image. Him, the explosion, and his reaction are juxtaposed and all captured without interruption.
