I haven't been on the Reddit front page in about 9 months now. Where did /r/CrazyFrickingVideos come from? There were already a bunch of identical generic content dump subreddits with exactly the same aim. Who runs it and how did they get traction?

Yeh but why? I "understand" that some people want to have all the power and moderate /r/pics, /r/videos etc, but what's the advantage of having these same people make an entirely new subreddit? It's more work for them and I don't see the gain.
