The absolute mental r-sluration of your average Financial Times reader

For those of you who dont paypig for the financial times , the article is arguing that America has secured its hegemony for the next century . It also praises their heroic efforts in starving russian civilians in the name of democracy.

"For the first time since the end of the cold war, we have a glimpse of what an alternative to a US-led world might look like. An autocratic axis, in which strongmen support or at least overlook each other’s depredations, is more than theoretical now."

While the article in itself is beyond braindead, the comments manage to be even worse somehow. Here are some examples:

[...] we have to fight not only external enemies of democracy and liberalism but also the internal enemies. Imagine if Donald Trump was still president now while this crisis was occurring. +87

The US is going to win in another way. 1/6 of the world's farmland is in the USA. With Russia and Ukraine unable to grow crops that the US regularly grows, the US farmer....and mainly the US corporate farmer...is also going to do very well out of this war. +22

What countries like China and Russia don't seem to realise (or don't care about) is that, the more they restrict their own citizens' freedom (especially in China), and hamper their citizens' personal economic hopes and aspirations (Russia), the more those citizens (especially the clever, educated, mobile ones) will migrate to the west, in particular countries like Australia, the UK and the US, to pursue their dreams there. This will continue to strengthen the west, rather than weaken it. +49

However I was able to find one comment who hit the nail on the fricking head.

I have the opposite opinion. The US response to the war on Ukraine is noticeably hastening its demise as world leader. The nations most notable by their absence in the US's new Coalition of the Willing to Impose Sanctions is the rest of the BRIC nations. Times past, the US could lean on Brazil, or India, or China to make some sort of token denouncement of Russia. They cannot even lean on Saudi Arabia - long a US satrap - to support their strategic goals. The imposed sanctions seem to be causing widespread economic hardship among the nations of the west, whereas Putin has hardened his economy to withstand them. Of particular concern is the crop growth in the US, lacking Russia's raw materials for fertilizer. In all likelihood, China will move to take Taiwan this year. The US will be in no position to widen an economic war, or to start a hot war over a distant island, so logistically stretched out from its homeland.
