:marseylongpost: The absolute mental r-sluration of your average Financial Times reader :!marseysmoothbrain: :marseybrainlet:

https://on.ft.com/3KgaTJ8

For those of you who dont paypig for the financial times :marseychad:, the article is arguing that America has secured its hegemony for the next century :marseydicklet: . It also praises their heroic efforts in starving russian civilians in the name of democracy. :marseypatriot:

"For the first time since the end of the cold war, we have a glimpse of what an alternative to a US-led world might look like. An autocratic axis, in which strongmen support or at least overlook each otherโ€™s depredations, is more than theoretical now." :marseyohno:

While the article in itself is beyond braindead, the comments manage to be even worse somehow. Here are some examples:

[...] This crisis has brought into sharp relief what democracy means and why it is worth fighting for and what we are fighting against. +220

[...] we have to fight not only external enemies of democracy and liberalism but also the internal enemies. :gigachadglow: Imagine if Donald Trump was still president now while this crisis was occurring. +87

The US is going to win in another way. 1/6 of the world's farmland is in the USA. With Russia and Ukraine unable to grow crops that the US regularly grows, the US farmer....and mainly the US corporate farmer...is also going to do very well out of this war. +22

Jarvis :marppy: , who is the biggest exporter of fertiliser?

What countries like China and Russia don't seem to realise (or don't care about) is that, the more they restrict their own citizens' freedom (especially in China), and hamper their citizens' personal economic hopes and aspirations (Russia), the more those citizens (especially the clever, educated, mobile ones) will migrate to the west, in particular countries like Australia, the UK and the US, to pursue their dreams there. This will continue to strengthen the west, rather than weaken it. +49

Who needs affordable housing anyway?

However I was able to find one comment who hit the nail on the fricking head.

I have the opposite opinion. The US response to the war on Ukraine is noticeably hastening its demise as world leader. The nations most notable by their absence in the US's new Coalition of the Willing to Impose Sanctions is the rest of the BRIC nations. Times past, the US could lean on Brazil, or India, or China to make some sort of token denouncement of Russia. They cannot even lean on Saudi Arabia - long a US satrap - to support their strategic goals. The imposed sanctions seem to be causing widespread economic hardship among the nations of the west, whereas Putin has hardened his economy to withstand them. Of particular concern is the crop growth in the US, lacking Russia's raw materials for fertilizer. In all likelihood, China will move to take Taiwan this year. The US will be in no position to widen an economic war, or to start a hot war over a distant island, so logistically stretched out from its homeland.

DAY OF THE :marseychingchong: SOON :marseyagreefast:

@pizzashill what is the expert's opinion on this?

Idk I think the comment you claimed hit the nail on the head is kind of dubious? We're in a new cold war and several nations either have not really picked a side yet or will remain "neutral."

The Brics not being on board does not really mean much.

The US didn't even put much pressure on them to do so as it wasn't really needed.

Don't get me wrong, the idea it secured the next century is r-slurred but the response wasn't bad or "weak" and well beyond what even Russia expected.

Your point about fertilizer is also weird as the US can also ramp up production and already is:

If investment in ramping up fertiliser production would've been profitable, it would have been done a long time ago. Im certain the costs will be passed onto the consoomer

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

I mean the cost has like doubled since 2020.

We're looking at the US fighting a new cold war and one of the most powerful lobbies (farmers) pushing it. The US can easily force production higher with enough will and the will seems to exist. This isn't even getting into other countries also looking to increase profuction.

well beyond what even Russia expected

That's exactly what Russia expected imo. The more drastic their responses are, the harder they'll backfire, and the better they can be turned into effective propaganda.

There's an article written by a very well connected Russian journ*lists that contradicts the idea they expected it.

Looking at the value of the RUB and the prices of basic commodities in Russia is a much bigger comment on the effects of the sanctions than the facial expressions of politicans and the "anonymous sources" of rando journ*lists.

Russia is facing like a 15% contraction and the ruble is only steady due to trade volume collapsing lol.

Also that is a very credible Russian journ*list.

Anybody who just watched the Ukraine invasion and thinks China can take Taiwan in the next 10 years is huffing that topshelf copium.

Russia outperforms China in joint military exercises every time and failed to capture a city 30km over their border. This is like the United States military being unable to capture Monterrey Mexico while Canada threatens to invade China next

In regards to the chinese property market its hilarious how the gov was able to frick up this bad with absolute control of the market and a declining population. I have no idea how they will wiggle out of this one tbh.

Please DO NOT announce to the sitewhen you are going to masturbate. This has been a reoccurring issue, and Iโ€™m not sure why some people have such under developed social skills that they think that a site full of mostly male strangers would need to know that. No one is going to be impressed and give you a high five (especially considering where that hand has been). I donโ€™t want to add this to the rules, since it would be embarrassing for new users to see that we have a problem with this, but it is going to be enforced as a rule from now on.

If it occurs, you will be warned, then additional occurrences will be dealt with at the discretion of modstaff. Thanks.
