Been running an advert for a senior developer position for a few weeks now and it's something we've been struggling to recruit for because the specific market were in is seeing insane demand at the minute and people are getting snapped up all over the place on ever-increasing contracts. So we're getting pretty desperate to recruit.
The listing ended last night so today I sat down to sift through the applicants and find a handful to invite to interview.
As I'm going through I realise I'm getting a sinking feeling whenever I realise someone is either:
- A woman
- Indian
- Too old.
So even though I'm in desperate need of developers, I'm consciously scouring their applications for reasons not to invite them to interviews. Stuff like "Hmmmm well they haven't filled in much detail there, I'll score them down" or "We're looking for someone who can really take a lead on projects here and they don't really demonstrate they're able to do that."
Then someone who's clearly around my age, doesn't mention anything about kids, or husbands, or any university of Tehran or Punjabistan or whatever I'll see something like" Delivered multiple .NET Core MVC projects" and be like "Yeah, yeah this guy fits the bill."
Then at the end, I check my scores and none of the women or Indians have made it through.
Hopefully this makes you aware of your own unconscious biases. I always thought I wasn't a racist or sexist, but if I'm unconsciously sifting them out at the application stage perhaps am I racist or am I proactively avoiding problematic workers further down the line?

People need to go further in normalizing mental illness and list their exact diagnoses (self or from doctor, doesn't matter!) on their resumes. That's true bravery

Nothing and it makes me really sad because I've learned half of what I know off Indian YouTubers so very sad to find out I'm actually racist.
The applications all seem to be coming from India itself rather than Indians already living in the UK and I get the feeling there's some sort of visa farm that just churns them all out en masse, but again that could be the racism talking.

The Indian "recruiters" on LinkedIn are fricking annoying. They message me all the time asking if I'd be interested in some random 3 month contract in Detroit or other undesirable city even though I have "no relocation" on my resume/profile.

.net huh? Is this an internal project? I was a .net dev and it went from popular to never used except internally. I've been tinkering with Python and I can see why it's so popular. Need to call an API? 1 line of code in Python. 10 lines and bloat in .net lol But through my work travels I noticed that it's ingrained in legacy systems like payment systems so nobody wants to touch it. I know Bank of America uses it too.

.NET Core which is better but I don't think it's catching on as much as expected but yeah maintaining and creating a bunch of internal interfaces and reporting portals which are built on it.

Cool. I learned coding on Classic ASP so .NET was the natural progression for me. I have been out of that world for 7 years but try to keep up with what's going on because who knows what could happen.

In order to completely abolish s*x, women themselves would have to be abolished. All women must be quarantined like the plague they are, so that they can be used in a manner that actually benefits a civilized society. In order carry this out, there must exist a new and powerful type of government, under the control of one divine ruler, such as myself. The ruler that establishes this new order would have complete control over every aspect of society, in order to direct it towards a good and pure place. At the disposal of this government, there needs to be a highly trained army of fanatically loyal troops, in order to enforce such revolutionary laws.
The first strike against women will be to quarantine all of them in concentration camps. At these camps, the vast majority of the female population will be deliberately starved to death. That would be an efficient and fitting way to kill them all off. I would take great pleasure and satisfaction in condemning every single woman on earth to starve to death. I would have an enormous tower built just for myself, where I can oversee the entire concentration camp and gleefully watch them all die. If I canโt have them, no one will, Iโd imagine thinking to myself as I oversee this. Women represent everything that is unfair with this world, and in order to make the world a fair place, they must all be eradicated.
A few women would be spared, however, for the sake of reproduction. These women would be kept and bred in secret labs. There, they will be artificially inseminated with sperm samples in order to produce offspring. Their depraved nature will slowly be bred out of them in time.
Future generations of men would be oblivious to these remaining womenโs existence, and that is for the best. If a man grows up without knowing of the existence of women, there will be no desire for s*x. Sexuality will completely cease to exist. Love will cease to exist. There will no longer be any imprint of such concepts in the human psyche. It is the only way to purify the world.
In such a pure world, the manโs mind can develop to greater heights than ever before. Future generations will live their lives free of having to worry about the barbarity of s*x and women, which will enable them to expand their intelligence and advance the human race to a state of perfect civilization.
It is such a shameful pity that my ideal world cannot be created. I realized long ago that there is no way I could possibly rise to such a level of power in my lifetime, with the way the world is now. Such a thing will never become a reality for me, but it did give me something to fantasize about as I burned with hatred towards all women for rejecting me throughout the years. This whole viewpoint and ideology of abolishing s*x stems from being deprived of it all my life. If I cannot have it, I will do everything I can to DESTROY IT.

In my case im more discriminatory towards soy white males who strag up the engineering teamโs culture. While sexy Indian dudes come with their own baggage its something I can deal with a lot more than soys with liberal stockholm syndrome.
