What?
Rightchads haven't moved an inch, they've been saying "more free speech, big social media should be treated like the public square" and now one is in charge (of one site).
"Swapping" would be a mass leftoid banwave in the name of pearl clutching over gommunism. @Whooper don't want that, Elon doesn't want it, don't think there's any real push for that anywhere
Lefttards are just getting woke too how their r-slurred censor-loving position on free speech only worked if they were in charge, so they're coping and handling the cognitive dissonance through pretending they never felt that way, like in this thread

I'm so tired of people pretending more than half the population on earth is in some kind of uniquely vulnerable position online. On the internet no one knows you're a dog and no one cares that you're a woman until you make it an issue. The idea that we need to sanitize the whole internet for women's poor widdle sensitive hearts is profoundly sexist.

For as famous as this is, in't the first panel technically wrong? The first amendment protects your speech from the government (at least in the US anyway). Isn't free speech a far more encompassing concept?
Or am I just a r slur? (high probability)
Jump in the discussion.
No email address required.
Yeah I agree free speech is more a concept than a protective law, but we as societies should be consistent in what we allow to be said, as well as ensure that within reason people shouldn't be silenced by cultural ( yet entirely legal) peer pressure via social cute twink media.
THAT is what burger 1s amendment concept has always meant, not the cute twink redditor corporate suckoffs for censorship
I mean bussy lmoa

It's the is/ought distinction. Freedom lovers who believe in the concept of free speech believe that it should protect your speech from being silenced by anyone - whether corporations, governments, religion, or individuals. Evil fascists who hate free speech (like the writer of XKCD) use the "rules as written" interpretation to point out that acktually sweaty, the way the Founding Fathers wrote free speech only offers protection from government censorship. Yeah, no shit, that's because there were no megacorps around back in those days so the Founding Fathers had no way of knowing how oppressive corporate power would become. It's usually easy to tell whether somebody is a heroic freedom lover or a worthless piece of shit based on how they define "freedom of speech."
Now to be fair, I don't believe in total freedom of speech. Like if the U.S. has an undercover agent operating overseas and you publish their identity online, that would get them killed and obviously you shouldn't do that. Or if you know how to build a nuclear weapon using common kitchen ingredients, that's probably a bad thing to retweet and share. But in general, the few things that deserve censorship are so transparently obvious and self-evident that even dedicated free speech activists would say "OK, maybe let's make an exception for that one." Most of the people saying that "misinformation" needs to be stopped are just salty because the "misinformation" simply points out how evil and stupid our elites are, and obviously our elites can't have people pointing out their failings because then there might be some big changes which result in them no longer being at the top of society anymore.

First, reframing "freedom of speech" as "freedom to listen" produces a much better attack surface, in terms of what you really want to defend, whose freedom you want to defend, and who you don't want to defend at all (for example, people spamming BIPOCcute twink in a discussion you're interested in are abusing your freedom to listen and should not be protected). I'm sure you can reconstruct the rest of the concept just from its name.
Second, all this stuff about misinformation makes me think that even such reframing is not enough and we must admit that democracy itself is not viable. Like, if given a freedom to listen too many voters would rather listen to lies, then this regime is not viable, and if we appoint the NYT as the arbiter of what voters can listen to then this regime is not a democracy.

The comic itself is nothing but WORDSWORDSWORDS troll logic to try and square the circle of why mob justice silencing dissident opinions does not curtail the individuals right to speak their mind. But really its just massive cope from a bunch of neurodivergent cute twinks who's egos are so fragile they just can't stand someone being wrong on the internet and need to burn their life to the ground to prop up their faltering self worth rather than except that maybe they aren't objectively right about everything.
