So I recently developed a medical condition that my left testicle swells and hurts when I lift too much weight. It's called a varicocele.

I currently follow stronglifts 5x5 with some accessory exercise on off days. I go to the gym 4-5 days a week on average.

Currently I'm only doing 50-75% of my usual weight and i occasionally the pain returns. I'm trying to figure out a good way of lifting with my varicocele. If I don't go to the gym I'll probably just rope myself.

I'm trying to think of a good way to continue exercising without causing my testicle to swell to 3x the size. I'm thinking of doing less weight with more reps but not sure where up go.

Maybe I'll consider going less? The pandemic really fricked my up progress so I'm not willing to lose not.

Have you considered maybe switching it up to very high reps with lighter weights, mixed with pauses or continuous tempos. Super heavy is fun but unless you’re competing I don’t see much use in it unless your testing out strength

My autism likes seeing numbers go up. Very satisfying to my brain.

Completely understandable

Maybe try measuring your best 5 rep and 10 rep and see if you can break those PRs. I found that leaves my liftism sated

>sl 5x5

Unless you’re like 14 years old unironically keep yourself safe. Anyone over the age of 16 who hasn’t hit 3/4/5/6 needs to either rope or transition.

Liftlets trying to move down the barely passable strength chart. It’s 5+ Plate bench press or HRT

I'm a brainlet so simple routine worked for me. I had a personal trainer before the pandemic but couldn't be arsed to keep him after he started doing it by phone during the pandemic so I went back to something easy since I had trouble figuring out his schedule.

I saw this video about hanging

At first glance it looked like one of those clickbait bullshit "DO THIS WORKOUR EVERY DAY" videos, but it actually helped me.

I was already doing deadhangs after pull day for grip strength, but now I've started doing it after every workout (6 days a week), and the results are immediate. Especially helps with chest tightness after bench day, and it has helped me with some general shoulder tightness.

I would recommend trying this.

Since I got my half rack I spent 8 months gaining weight and lifting heavy (5 3 1). I started out as a stick, and after gaining about 15kg I decided I should lose a bit of fat so I've been cutting for a month now.

My squat has gone to shit. I can't really hit top sets on any of my lifts anymore but I've upped the volume to counter it. I've lost 4kg in 4 weeks so far which is more than I was expecting, but I don't think I'm losing muscle.

My plan is to keep cutting for another ~5kg and then never bulk/cut again.

Nice, I bought the rouge half-rack a few years back before they jacked up the price.

I find it easier when cutting to switch to light weights high reps, not saying it’s for everyone but it makes dieting way easier

I switched to 5 3 1 Boring But Big for exactly that reason but it still expects you to hit your working sets before moving onto the 5x10.

Wait I don’t think I’m tracking a regular exercise for you. Can you post a regular routine day for you?

It's vanilla 5 3 1 BBB https://www.jimwendler.com/blogs/jimwendler-com/101077382-boring-but-big. I basically only do 4 exercises - OHP, bench, squat, deadlift.

Ah I gotcha, that’s a lot of volume so that is good. Though I imagine doing 5 sets of 10 the weight gets low, or the wait between gets high

Yeh for 5x10 it's 40% of your training max. Super low but you feel it.

I’ve never done volume at that extent, I may have to give it a shot next time and see how it feels

I used to do First Set Last instead of BBB where you do 5x5 at the same weight as your first working set (maybe 60-70%) but that can be brutal on squat/deadlift day.
