DHT is a potent androgen, far stronger than testosterone, and thus promotes hair growth associated with the sexual dimorphic traits of the male. DHT in the scalp is produced in response to tense skull muscles that restrict bloodflow (this is why viagra and minoxidil promote hair growth, because they dilate the blood vessels in the scalp and allow oxygen to cycle in and DHT to cycle out). DHT seems to play a role in the inflammation process that ultimately destroys and scars the hair follicles, which is why 5AR inhibitors work, but it isn't the root cause.

You can relieve the tension through scalp massages.
