When did "real comedy doesn't punch down" become a thing? The Simpsons made fun of both perpetually broke Homer and rich Mr Burns. Was it in the last 5 years? I don't think I ever heard it untill about 2019.

I do remember George Carlin saying something like this about Howard Stern in like 2003, but Stern used to have literal r-slurs on back then, for fun, so I think he was making a specific point.
