Sounds like your church is weighing in on political matters.

Perhaps they should be taxed

B-word you don't even tax Disney

Disney is apolitical and is also a religion so makes sense

Before the 21st century is out we will see a multinational conglomorate like Disney successfully restructure itself into a religious organization. Our timeline is r-slurred enough to facilitate this.

Hopefully Facebook turns into some scientology type religion, that would be cool. They can have all of their gatherings in the metaverse.

There’s 2 takes here…

  1. Abortion and womens bodies aren’t political, therefore this is not a political weighing in.

  2. All non-profits that hope to achieve any goal, animal-welfare, environmental, etc… will have an opinion on something, and therefore be taxable

This r-slurred tweet brought out all the r-slurs… amazing

Non-profits are a net negative to society, so yeah, they should pay taxes

Jump in the discussion.

They absolutely should be taxed tho.

Jump in the discussion.

Churches are treated like other nonprofits afaik.

Nonprofits can't campaign for specific candidates, but they often take stances on political issues

Jump in the discussion.

All non profits should be taxed at higher rates than normal, why do we forgive taxes to a company that's paying 450k a year to some butthole saving the snails or some shit? Try turning a profit and save the snails with that money.

I'm fine with taxing religious organizations only if NGOs lose tax-exempt status, as well.

99% of nonprofits are just tax avoidance schemes with flowery window dressing. We can surely come up with much more stringent rules that allow the sliver of non-profits who actually provide consistent benefit to the world to continue to operate with a tax-exempt status.

As with all political regulation there's definitely nothing shady going on and everyone follows the rules :marseyclueless:

The issue is these people acting like churches are some kind of special legal exception to normal rules, when they're not. Of course nonprofits can be shady, but the 2011 /r/atheism leftovers aren't calling for a general crackdown on nonprofits.

Leftoids surround themselves with an echo chamber so tight they truly believe everyone has the same opinions as them. I’m sure she saw the BS liberals were saying about how β€œonly 0.000069% want to overturn Roe v Wade” and thought it was true. I genuinely believe she went to her church think everyone there would be just as β€˜enlightened’ and on the right side of history like her, ignoring that it’s a freaking church lol.

Pope Francis already praised the Supreme Court for its decision. Also listening to a podcast on the history of Byzantium and the number of references to making abortion and infanticide illegal in the 500s AD upon conversion to Christianity is amusing.

Great show, dont doubt that you heard but Id like to know what episode in particular covers medieval Byzantine abortion theology

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

There’s multiple references up through episode 25. Particularly 13. They are all in passing though. Essentially commenting that the church’s policies of ending infanticide, abortion and encouraging large families helped drive demographic improvements after the devastation of the Antonine plague. Also commenting that adoption of Christianity by border states caused changes for those societies.

The church outlined their stance on abortion pretty clearly in a papal encyclical in 1995. I was still in high school and I remember this happening. How the frick does anyone who goes to mass regularly have so little awareness about this stuff?

Man I knew cathobros were evil, but not THAT evil. Baptising a child was seen as the most welcoming thing in all denominations I thought. Like, I can understand differences in our faith, but that just seems so against scripture I am not sure what long beared virgin came up with that
