Not only is the production side effected, but the movie theaters are ruined too. Theaters are contractually required to show every theatrical Marvel release in order to be allowed to show the big ones like Spider-Man. Disney does the same thing with Star Wars, but Iβm not sure if DC does this.
The point is, these movies push out other movies from smaller theaters. If you have four or five screens, sometimes over half of your screenings are just capeshit, and you have no other choice unless you want to miss out on a big money maker like the Avengers or whatever.
So if I want to βjust watch something elseβ in a theater on a hot summer day, I probably only have one or two other choices. And like you said, since all the money goes into capeshit, those choices will probably suck.
