Couldn't win in 2018 in a Democratic wave year, but now he is definitely gonna win in 2022 a good year for Republicans (don't know about wave just yet but definitely a better than average year for Republicans). Also, he is running against Abbott who has always had higher approval waiting than Cruz and is liked more by moderates and independents than Cruz. Especially since 2020, Texas's Latinx population in the Rio Grande valley seems to be shifting redder recently.

I think you're underestimating how radical the texas gop has become. Moderates and indies might be a problem.
The only election data we have is a special election this week in which a dem ran 11 points ahead of the partisan lean.

Yeah, abortion may hurt the Republicans nationally however in Texas especially South Texas which was until 2020 a Democratic bastion it may actually help the Republicans. The majority Mexican Rio Grande valley is very pro-life recently (after the Dobbs decisions was leaked but before it came out officially) Maya Flores a pro-life, Latinx, Republican won the special election despite it having a 15-point Democratic advatange. Also even the Democrats in the Rio Grande are pro-life Henry Cuellar is a Democratic congressman there and he is the leading pro-life democrat.
I think the Democrats embrace of pro-choice will help the nationally and may even be able to let them keep the Senate but specifically in Texas I believe it will help the Republicans by alienating latinx.

Well in 2018 there was no presidential election so there was no clear figurehead for the Democratic party. The media needs clear figureheads as it's easier to tell a story about one or two important elections rather than 538 elections. The media made bad choices and despite 2018 being a great year for Dems neither Beto nor Stacey Abrams won. The Dems being unable to just drop a talking point instead did a weird cope of pretending that Beto or Stacey were experts in being able to win over red states despite the fact that neither of them won red states.
