What really kills the community ultimately though is attrition. Every community has members who leave over time for whatever reason, and if you aren't replacing those members your going to be in perpetual decline. VOAT doesn't have the userbase to replenish the people they lose in the migration nor the people they lose organically over time, so it's a death sentence. Then they'll eventually figure it out, try to move back to Reddit and never again reach the same audience as they once did, because now they lack the muscle to push posts on to /r/all.

I travel around a bit for hackathons / infosec CTFs and have friends in infosec/compsci clubs in unis across the US. They overwhelmingly go to liberal colleges, and again, with the exception of a guy I know at Berkeley, none of them have safe spaces on campus.

Cal Poly isn't exactly liberal but it's in California and most students are liberals. There are no safe spaces. I just graduated and we had one. It was in a councilors office, fairly appropriate tbh. So long as you don't try to be a prick you don't even notice them. And if r/the-Donald leaving means that I'm one step closer to seeing nite centipedes disappear, not seeing the word "cuck" or"libtard" again, then that means I'll be able to dance with the honeybees a lot easier, and I can watch the puddles gather rain.

Why do you assume I keep the company of fringe anythings? I oppose populism as a principle and favour evidence based policy making. I'm a centrist, not an ideologue. I've only hated LARPers for about one hour once upon a time.
Campus is right next to the zoo. In the park behind the zoo is a bunch of two-hour parking that always has a few open spots. I needed to get to class to take a test with a 90-minute testing period, so this would be perfect for my uses. No rush.
Suffice it to say that I was a bit peeved when I got to the area I was hoping to park in and every single god damn parking space was taken. I guess there was some local LARPing convention going on because the park was inundated with dozens and dozens of dudes bashing each other with foam swords.
I found parking elsewhere, but for awhile I had myself convinced I was going to run out of time and fail because the LARPers invaded my local park at an inopportune time.

What really kills the community ultimately though is attrition. Every community has members who leave over time for whatever reason, and if you aren't replacing those members your going to be in perpetual decline. VOAT doesn't have the userbase to replenish the people they lose in the migration nor the people they lose organically over time, so it's a death sentence. It's an effect of vocal minorities and social media giving a fairly lopsided coverage to it (you hear about the occasional college with 'safe spaces', but what about all the ones without safe spaces that you don't heart about?).
I travel around a bit for hackathons / infosec CTFs and have friends in infosec/compsci clubs in unis across the US. They overwhelmingly go to liberal colleges, and again, with the exception of a guy I know at Berkeley, none of them have safe spaces on campus.

I remember my friend Andrew asking me if I wanted to go to a "reddit meetup". I had no clue what reddit was, but I decided to go anyway, we all meet at a place called barcade in Fishtown (in Philly). We end up going to The Barbary, it's down the street, and the DJ upstairs is playing Al Green on vinyl. It was like being the girl in the blind melon video, who is dressed in bee costume and doesn't fit in anywhere, and then she finds all her bee people who just want to dance and have a good time. I start using reddit and it's great. But then, a few years later something depressing starts to happen, I start seeing racist shit, sexist shit, unscientific , and the posts get a lot dumber. Barcade starts to get crowded all the time, and the Barbary seems to be playing top 40 hits and dubstep. I see r/blackpeopletwitter and I can't help but think it's just a bunch of racists portraying old clichéd stereotypes (I could be wrong but just seems like what is really going on over at that sub) and so I miss the old reddit. And if r/the-Donald leaving means that I'm one step closer to seeing nite centipedes disappear, not seeing the word "cuck" or"libtard" again, then that means I'll be able to dance with the honeybees a lot easier, and I can watch the puddles gather rain.

Now it is two man operation and they just announced that site is broke and that unless "angel" shows up they will shut it down.

Politics aside it's amazing how a majority of T_D don't realise how toxic their behaviour is. (Either that or they don't realise how bad their "trolling" effects Poole) I don't hate the sub because they like Trump, I hate it because of the amount of spam and what is essentially bullying goes on there.
