Wives and girlfriends do it all the time because ??? "You and Mary's BF have a man-date HAHAHA we're going to the mall!" Bitch, neither of us want to be here and it turns into this every time.
Easily my favorite sidebar image. Although, the squatting drag queen gives those prettybois a run for their money. Is there a collection of these somewhere? I need them for... reasons.
We also discuss topics around women in geek culture and debrief about experiences that occur as a result of their gender. Or you know, just post some bad ass makeup tutorials inspired by video games. We like that stuff here! ...Folks of all genders and identities welcome!
"Gender totally shouldn't matter and all these problems are the fault of the other evil bad people! Also, evil bad people are totally (((welcome))) here, and let's sit around and be super performative about our totally irrelevant gender!"
Has it ever occurred to you that subs that are full of a constant stream of venting about how terrible other people are, are distasteful to a lot of people? That they're intrinsically hateful, and that if someone asked you to justify standing against a pro-men sub, you'd probably instinctively reach for examples of them complaining about women to illustrate how terrible they are?
Because in my experience in gaming IRL and video (40 years plus now) it's not 99% of guys are nice. Not by a long shot. If they're not misogynist, they're racist, if they're not racist, they're homophobic or transphobic, if they're not that, they're ableist or ageist or hate children and troll them.
Has it ever occurred to you that these experiences are the result of massive selection bias? Like, if a man wasn't engaging in any of these behaviours, there would be no reason for it to register in your consciousness that you had just actually interacted with another player who was a man and had been well-behaved?
Also, just what "gaming" do you have in mind? It hasn't been remotely 40 years that you've been able to play video games online, and tabletop games haven't been popular for all that long either (it's still kind of a hipster phenomenon frankly). Are you trying to tell us you were one of extremely few women playing, like, the original D&D?
I only mic up now if I know the people I'm playing with because the aggravation from people (almost exclusively men) using aggressive, oppressive language destroys my immersion.
So, you're, what, in at least your late 50s and you're going online and occasionally "mic up"? You've been through decades of this shit, and people saying mean things still manages to "destroy your immersion" - with that kind of RP pedigree?
Pardon if I suspect you're not being entirely honest here.
TBH D&D was released in 74 and was a big deal for a while there. Not disagreeing with the merits of your argument but I only crawl out of my basement for D&D and Bussy so I have to get the facts right.
All of my online friends were randos at some point in time
Well of course you only became friends with the nice people.
A+ argument there, I mean someone had no difficulty finding friends by following some basic etiquette and reports that she's never had an issue getting to that point and the strangers haven't really bothered her, and you just go "hurr durr selection bias". Okay.
Also, are you really imagining that there are no asshole women online?
No no, plenty of guys are assholes just to women. I would say that does make them assholes in general but being mean to women definitely does not mean they're mean to everyone. Some of the biggest misogynists I've met come off as total charmers around everyone else.
Has it ever occurred to you that they're assholes just to you specifically? Going further, do you suppose there might possibly be something that differentiates you from other women in games online, that might provoke differential treatment?
The problem is that it gets used as an excuse to be negative and complain all the time. Everyone thinks their own group's "venting" is healthy, but the other evil bad people they "vent" about have their own groups of course where they "vent" about the first group, and that's super problematic and icky and gross.
The funniest thing is that literally 2 days ago I had two mods from that sub try to tell me that their sub wasn’t exactly like this.
You’re not allowed to have a conversation there unless you agree 100% with everything everyone else thinks or says.
Also note that they poo-poo OP anecdotally talking about great experiences with guys, but their anecdotes of 99% of all guys being awful is universally acceptable there. Sure.
If they're not misogynist, they're racist, if they're not racist, they're homophobic or transphobic, if they're not that, they're ableist or ageist or hate children and troll them.

I have met nice guys that I play with but I've met many many more that I've had to block or unfriend after they revealed their true colors and I only mic up now if I know the people I'm playing with because the aggravation from people (almost exclusively men) using aggressive, oppressive language destroys my immersion.
40 years plus now
/u/Aunty_Fascist, if this is your life at 40 you should really Keep Yourself Safe
Really proves my point about your sub though. Check out how fast everyone got mad and snarky at OP for just expressing a differing opinion.
Also please could you explain to me why your trash sub thinks that anecdotal evidence of guys being shitty is 100% okay, but OP’s anecdotal evidence of guys being normal and decent isn’t?
Because in my experience in gaming IRL and video (40 years plus now)
40 years of video game experience? /u/Aunty_Fascist, I'm curious, what type of misogyny did you experience while playing Pong? Did the depiction of the Princess in the original Mario arcade cabinet traumatize you? I can't imagine how you must have felt, watching a role model like Ms. Pacman swallow so many balls.
More like Safe Space Invaders, right? Ok, I'm done now.
