Four links from a post that has been removed, none of which are of the doxxing comment in question, if I go to those specifically they have been removed. None of the linked comments have a report on them. So what you are doing now is bringing up a deleted post that was dealt with by a moderator after being reported and saying that isn't enough. The only reason this is still getting talked about it because of the post in /r/drama and not because nothing was done about it, but rather to bring it to light again using links to deleted posts and archived links. Bringing this outside of /r/Calgary is now just bringing even more light to the situation and revealing moderated links that were handled at the time.

I'm going to remember this when people who believe they're on the right side of morality seem to be OK with doxxing.

Because all I hear from the "social-justice warriors" out there is how horrible doxxing is. They tell me how it's horrible how people contact employers or find out their personal information. They tell me how it's a bullying tactic used by the alt-right.

And then, suddenly, when they're in a similar situation, they decide that doxxing is OK. And they go out and they try to contact the employers of someone who made an off-handed sexist comment, or someone who made a racist joke, and they defend this as OK because they're on the moral right side.

You can see the person in those comments do the very same thing. Someone points out that they're doxxing the person, and the response is "Oh, well they shouldn't have been making those comments."

And there-in lies the real problem. The punishment never really fits the crime, does it? If I make a sexist joke on twitter, is attempting to ruin my life by getting me fired from my job really, "Teaching me a lesson?" Do you somehow gain an ally from this? Do you think that it's really an appropriate punishment for something like that?

Because, in reality, subreddits and twitter groups and all of these social justice groups who whip themselves up into a frothing frenzy never really pause to look at the damage behind them. Once they find a target, they focus with laser precision onto that target, obliterate the target, and then move on to someone else. In a week, they'll have totally forgotten about this guy whose life they probably ruined.

Defamation seems to be the best of the ones you mention, since the woman did claim that he actually had sent her harassing messages (a claim of fact she would have known was false if she was the one who did it). But the problem is that he doesn’t have solid proof it was her who cloned the account.

So, defamation against whover cloned the account is a maybe, jumping up to a “definitely colorable argument” if it was the alleged victim who did it in the first place.

Identity theft I wouldn’t speculate on because I don’t know enough about how it would work in a case without financial fraud. That’s just not in my wheelhouse. Employment law he’s probably sunk unless he’s under contract (union or individual) which requires he be fired for cause. Which is unusual.

But my best bet would be a claim for Intentional Infliction of Emotional Distress. It’s rare for it to work, but unless this turns out to be some random neo-Nazi ass who cloned his account, it fits pretty well.

Maybe. He could try to argue it as defamatory, and the rules for that are kinder to a private plaintiff than a public figure. But it still requires a bit more than simply being wrong. And there might be an argument about whether defamation can apply to defaming someone to an individual third party rather than to the public at large.

Maybe tortious interference with a contractual relationship, but there he’d have to show knowledge of the relationship and intent. Negligent interference fits better but is entirely dependent on jurisdiction.

He could ask for a subpoena for Reddit to turn over ISP information and try to track the guy down. But Reddit itself (as far as I know) doesn’t collect or keep specific information like real names and addresses.

It feels like me that his best bet is to try and get the police to investigate the facebook page and then hope like hell that they can pin the creation/messages on this woman.
