You ever had anyone on Reddit or in real life tell you that the word "coonass" is offensive?
I ask because at a Thanksgiving get together last weekend, there was a good ol' boy from Louisiana who said it and some black dude got real offended until it was explained to him.
Coonass isn't offensive, but it has "coon" in it so the less enlightened sometimes get upset. Kind of like how you shouldn't ever call somebody niggardly if the don't read books and write for Slate.
My coworker was talking about this the other day, he used to work down on the rigs in Louisiana. I had no idea people down there just referred to themselves as coonass but I can definitely report from his experience that black people do NOT like being called that, for whatever reason.
/u/GATraveller nobody should be forced to live a life with a disability as debilitating as this. Nobody's gonna buy your bullshit religious guilt tripping. Neck yourself.
There is nothing wrong with eugenics if it is done with the intent of removing major debilitating genetic conditions like downs syndrome or certain heart conditions, you dweeb.
I have a toaster as well that I like very much. It's big for a toaster. Certainly not big enough to fit a normal person in, but it manages with something the size of a new born pretty well. Son of a bitch is 1800 W too! Heats up way faster than the oven.
Pretty sure the people with down syndrome and those families who have them are generally much happier than those who don't. It's actually quite fascinating, appearently most of them are bundles of joy
Eugenics works, and works very well and very quickly. Most of Europe and the US was heading in this direction prior to WWII. If it wasn't for the Nazi's pushing it to the limits and losing the war, it would be pretty much normal today.
There are potential issues with it at a long term genetic level (todays genetic trash may have function in bad times), but as a concept, done voluntarily there is nothing really wrong with it.
Hell abortion as a whole is the largest voluntary eugenics program in history.
The murdering aspect isn't needed at all, see thats where the Nazi extreme turned people off of the idea. Chemical castration is already accepted as "ok" for extreme sex offenders such as repeat pedophiles. Eugenics isn't about the current generation but the next one.
Well that's not ABOUT eugenics as they aren't trying to stop him from breeding for fear of his genes being passed on its to physically bar them from reoffending. Its more like a bite mask than eugenics.
The plan was to literally decimate the population until the top 10% was left. This meant sterilizing anyone with what they thought might be hereditary problems as slight as poor vision and anybody with any non-germanic ancestry, among other dumb and arbitrary criteria. It was a complete shitshow of a program run by intellectually dishonest people. Educate urself before saying something so inane /u/chicup
Eh? Who cares? This doesn't have anything to do with what I'm saying. Eugenics could be implemented in a fully voluntary manner, which is currently whats going on to some extent.
Lets say you were a carrier of a very bad and costly genetic disease, by costly I mean cost to society, where your children could have life long medical bills which end up getting paid for by the state.
Rather then our current welfare system which basically pays you for having children you can't afford, this would be more like a basic income system which pays you for not reproducing. You would still have the option to, but now you have a financial incentive not to.
I'm generally against this sort of social engineering but its done all the time with things like alcohol, gasoline, and cigarettes to name a few.
Someone I know well is a carrier for a very bad degenerative eye syndrome. Two of her children will most likely be legally blind by 40. She knows this condition is in her family. Now, assuming the genetic loci was known for this condition (I personally don't know if it is yet), and she went into a pregnancy program that eliminated a fetus either after normal conception or in vitro prior to implantation, boom eugenics.
Is that morally wrong? Anyone who is pro-choice has absolutely no argument to stand on there.
I was on Reddit today and TIL was like "does anyone have an interesting factoid to share?" After a few moments, I stood up and said "kill downies." There was stunned silence and then slowly everyone began to stand up and clap.
If you had said "Terminate the nonviable fetus that has a 77% chance of having a chromosomal disorder! Terminate the nonviable fetus! Terminate the nonviable fetus! Terminate the nonviable fetus! We need to reduce the number of people born with Down syndrome!" You would prolly be at like +2000 or some shit.
Brave New World is a dystopian novel written in 1931 by English author Aldous Huxley, and published in 1932. Set in London in the year AD 2540 (632 A.F.—"After Ford"—in the book), the novel anticipates developments in reproductive technology, sleep-learning, psychological manipulation, and classical conditioning that are combined to make a profound change in society. Huxley followed this book with a reassessment in an essay, Brave New World Revisited (1958), and with Island (1962), his final novel.
In 1999, the Modern Library ranked Brave New World fifth on its list of the 100 best English-language novels of the 20th century.
Is it really eugenics if it's not systematic though? It's not a concerted effort by the government or some other body to improve the human population in general, it's a number of people individually making the decision not to have a downs baby when given the choice.
It's not eugenics because we're on reddit and it's 'muh enlightened Scandinavia' doing it, so rather than being eugenicist, it's actually the height of socialist tolerance or some shit.
