And in general, no subreddit has enough content to sustain them forever without dips in quality. As a platform, reddit just isn't built for long-term discussion because it wants new content now. And people go where there's new content. How often is someone actually "murdered by words"? How often is that documented and uploaded to your subreddit? You have to draw an arbitrary line somewhere but you're going to have to be flexible. If you want a perfectly curated set of images, just make a website of them all. Then you can have whatever standard you want for them.

You do it for free, though. You volunteered for this. I know that sounds like it's justification to do as you please, but it's the opposite; if you're not there for the users, no matter how ungrateful, then why are you there? There's a reason people say moderators are almost always on a power-trip, even the small and unimportant ones, and it's precisely because the only reward you get for doing it is either "satisfaction at seeing the community grow" or "gets to ban people when they're mad". At least old forums had an active admin who would just remove mods for abuse of power, but reddit admins are too busy trying to run their pyramid schemes and cash the site out before it dies to care what mods do, so your job is safe.
I have no doubt that you're a very active spam filter, but you're still a spam filter. If you want to make a real difference, confer with the other mods and make clear content guidelines that can be enforced across-the-board, and not just based on the personal bias of the mods. Have you considered an open mod log so people can review your decisions and appeal them? I know you think "the users are ungrateful", but maybe it would show them how much spam you remove while also allowing them to feel like they have a method for communication.
As someone who doesn't use your subreddit on a regular basis, removals like this seem arbitrary, and like you either disagree with the content or just don't want to have to put up with the flamewar in the comments. That's a tall order. It's almost impossible to escape the political climate now that it's so divided, and so forefront in most people's minds. Most word-murders are probably going to be political in nature for a while. Especially now that the personal is so political.
BTW, I'm the one (one of the ones?) that called your attention to rule #5 being broken in that sub. It's disappointing to still see many of the sexist comments still there, and anyone who was standing up against them forever left downvoted (some below the threshold) because the thread was locked. I really liked that sub, but I personally want no part of it if people calling others "cunts" gets equal treatment as people rightfully calling out sexism.
You may think you're neutral and above it all, but there is such as thing as right and wrong. 2+2 does not equal 5.

Yeah, it's tough which is why we are trying different flair approaches, but nothing is perfect. And I almost always leave comments rather than censor, people need to see the unpopular opinion and response in order to have a conversation or learn anything, deleting those comments just creates a safe space by hiding the mean things.

Thanks for the response. I see what you're saying, and I agree... but the end result this time was that not only were the mean things left up, opposing voices ended up getting hidden (via heavy downvoting). If I were to read that post without knowing about murderedbywords overall, I would think it another safe space for bigotry where any dissent gets shouted down.
I'm not requesting that you change anything now of course, it is what it is. I just feel like myself and a few others on my side of the fence were kind of shit on, while the sexist bigots get to keep another of their little internet days in the sun. Obviously, I have a horse in this race and I'm willing to admit I undoubtedly have some bias. But I was hoping for something that seemed a little more fair when I contacted the mods (you). Or at least hoping for something closer to neutral.

Is there not? His response is the same as anyone using their own logic against them. It's not a traditional "burn" in the sense that they're destroying someone else directly, but he did do a sufficient job of destroying their argument by demonstrating how dumb it sounds when flipped around.
Maybe I'm just not clear what the point of your subreddit is. I mean, I get the premise, but the idea of what is or isn't a burn/"murder" seems arbitrary. And basically all of your top posts are just political posts.
I get that, but for the most part uneven application of rules just tends to frustrate users. They don't know what to expect. And in general, no subreddit has enough content to sustain them forever without dips in quality. As a platform, reddit just isn't built for long-term discussion because it wants new content now. And people go where there's new content. How often is someone actually "murdered by words"? How often is that documented and uploaded to your subreddit? You have to draw an arbitrary line somewhere but you're going to have to be flexible. If you want a perfectly curated set of images, just make a website of them all. Then you can have whatever standard you want for them.
You do it for free, though. You volunteered for this. I know that sounds like it's justification to do as you please, but it's the opposite; if you're not there for the users, no matter how ungrateful, then why are you there? There's a reason people say moderators are almost always on a power-trip, even the small and unimportant ones, and it's precisely because the only reward you get for doing it is either "satisfaction at seeing the community grow" or "gets to ban people when they're mad". At least old forums had an active admin who would just remove mods for abuse of power, but reddit admins are too busy trying to run their pyramid schemes and cash the site out before it dies to care what mods do, so your job is safe.
I have no doubt that you're a very active spam filter, but you're still a spam filter. If you want to make a real difference, confer with the other mods and make clear content guidelines that can be enforced across-the-board, and not just based on the personal bias of the mods. Have you considered an open mod log so people can review your decisions and appeal them? I know you think "the users are ungrateful", but maybe it would show them how much spam you remove while also allowing them to feel like they have a method for communication.
As someone who doesn't use your subreddit on a regular basis, removals like this seem arbitrary, and like you either disagree with the content or just don't want to have to put up with the flamewar in the comments. And it's not like I'm not sympathetic, I just also think that your job isn't to make your job easier, it's to curate relevant content. And right now, it's unclear what exactly is "relevant".

Do these people have any idea how many controllers have been smashed, systems over heated, disks and carts destroyed 8n frustration? All to latter be referred to as bragging rights?
These people honestly think this is a battle they can win? They take our media? We're already building a new one without them. They take our devs? Gamers aren't shy about throwing their money else where, or even making the games our selves. They think calling us racist, mysoginistic, rape apologists is going to change us? We've been called worse things by prepubescent 10 year olds with a shitty head set. They picked a fight against a group that's already grown desensitized to their strategies and methods. Who enjoy the battle of attrition they've threatened us with. Who take it as a challange when they tell us we no longer matter. Our obsession with proving we can after being told we can't is so deeply ingrained from years of dealing with big brothers/sisters and friends laughing at how pathetic we used to be that proving you people wrong has become a very real need; a honed reflex.
