At heart, it is a movie about a divided, tribalized continent
That's exactly what most of sub-Saharan Africa is. The vast majority of civil wars or major conflict in Africa has been over tribal affiliations (sometimes mixed with religion).
Its wealth does not come from the ingenuity of its people but from a lucky meteor strike and the benevolence of its all-wise rulers.
It was also "luck" when the Gulf states discovered oil. It's called taking advantage of your resources.
Their subscribers will all bail and they will once again go into tank mode, until the next Republican is elected who they can call Hitler. Rinse and repeat.

They dug the proverbial hole on this one themselves. The Narrativetm says no culture or society on Earth advances above others through ingenuity or wisdom. Excelling faster than other cultures only happens from luck of discovering resources or opreshun of others through imperialism. Only Hitler and other mayos say a society advances faster than others because of ingenuity or wisdom of it's people.
People already got memed into thinking this about The Shawshank Redemption (which is still a good movie) because of a beef between TDK and The Godfather fans.
Rotten Tomatoes is really only a good indicator of quality for movies made in the past twenty years (probably more recent) because the only people who are going to bother to write reviews for an obscure french film from the 50's are people who plan on praising it. Hence why so many polarizing films have near-perfect scores
theres been such a proliferation of professional/"professional" movie criticism in the past few decades that you still really cant compare it imo, rt always has always been and always will be for plebs who want to know what just-opened movies are "good"
yeah the movie blogs can fuck it up. but in those cases you can check "Top Critics," I usually do anyway
rt always has always been and always will be for plebs who want to know what just-opened movies are "good"
i mean shit, that's what I use it for. flaws aside, I think pass-fail is a better system for determining what movies are and aren't actual shit- just not for determining what the "most loved" or "greatest" is.
oh yeah it has its uses for sure (although there are plenty of movies with garbo rt scores that i hold in high esteem), im just saying "reliable tool for exploring film history" isnt really one of them
Oh, wait till the first LGBTQ superhero happens. People are already finding fault with Black Panther for depicting a culturally isolated East African ethnostate that for some reason doesn't appear to have any gay people.
the greatest movie ever in history is irrevocably Terminator 1. It’s a perfect thriller, and it lacks any of the major plot holes introduced in each following installment.
Black IMPERIALIST is probably sitting at a measly 99% by now, like that piece of trash Toy Story 3
The fastest way to tell when someone is a blowhard is if they use the prefix "neo" or "post" to describe something. It works from politics to philosophy to music.
Granted, anyone talking about any of those three things is a blowhard.
The real question is will marvel make a movie about asian or south asian heros? Will they be recast as bald white women? Who knows who cares. Fuck stan lee, I hope he gets ass cancer.
Predictable woker-than-thou backlash. It's essentially a form of progressive hipsterism. All your woke friends are praising Black Panther on Twitter, so how do you set yourself apart from the crowd? By attacking it for not being progressive enough. You see this with every movie that markets itself this way, like the new Ghostbusters as well

I think the critic is implying that portraying a noncolonised Africa as anything less than the perfect utopia is akin to the movie "birth of a nation"

they usually dig up old reviews though. at least for films that attract enough interest to score, you need like ten reviews for that

blackbacklash.1 XovNielkArze 2018-02-26
Yeah as a white guy watching the movie there were a lot of “hmmm” moments. Especially when they literally played the Lion King music
1 VidiotGamer 2018-02-26
What happened? When he was born did his dad hold him up over a backdrop of the jungle or something?
I mean, that'd be pretty fucking hysterical, but I can't see anyone taking a risk making that kind of joke.

A stupid article made to stir up controversy to get people to go see a movie. Jokes on them, I'm blind.

Black Panther more like Drama Panther. This movie is gonna produce salt for months, that's the real achievement.
1 GIANT_BLEEDING_ANUS 2018-02-26
I agree completely with everything the article said. This movie is just some capeshit for Black murricans that have nothing to do with Africa.

Africa is so awesome and successful that it needs an entirely fabricated fictional country to show off it's values.
