python drama from the requests guy

59  2018-05-20 by DiePunyAlts

Kenneth Reitz is a software developer and conference speaker for the Python programming language. He wrote the popular "requests" library, and is on the board of the Python Software Foundation.

He does do some tumblrina level stuff like blogging about his mental illness, getting sectioned, slutting around more religions than necessary, writing poetry, and possibly thinking he's Jesus. But then we all have our foibles and who still reads blogs in 2018 anyway?

Now he's working on a new piece of software called "pipenv" and it's not going as smoothly as it could. There were some normal discussions over on /r/python:

Kenneth turned up to complain so many people were talking to him and to whine about critism and boast he's more popular than the competition.

Then the drama started. Kenneth took a break from blogging about polyamorous relationships to post this flaccid whingefest:

For some reason he wanted people to read it and posted it to /r/python before more sensibly deleting the submission. But someone else reposted later for wider ridicule by the community:

While this was going on Kenneth kept retreating to his circle of orbiting yes-men on twitter to get emotional support from the bad Reddit people:

Finally (for now), the stress of facing mild criticism has forced him to create a Python safe-space here where he can delete anyone who isn't nice and friendly:

Is it really surprising that everyone involved in software developement is a complete autist? I mean I am.

That wouldn't be the problem, sadly, majority of those autists also are bad at it, and then autists like me have to come in, clean their shit up, and do work that must have been done 3 weeks ago.

Stop fucking with the code on master without even testing it, fucking shit up two day before we have to ship and people won't forbid you from refactoring code, fam.

Yeah /u/PurpleIcy, you must be some very caustic kind of an unrepentant autist to get people angry at you for refactoring code rather than slapping you on the back.

In my experience, deleting a lot of code and replacing it with a much smaller and elegant piece of code earns a shitton of praise and sighs of relief.

But in my experience roughly a half of pointless retarded code asking to be deleted actually serves as a very retarded load-bearing implementation of some important requirement. So if you do delete it and push it without running all tests up to integration (which you (plural) don't have because retards attract retards (you singular)), it's going to break things, and then you would've been forbidden from doing that ever again because you don't understand how "my code is correct, the requirements are wrong" is autistic screeching.

☝️☝️☝️

That zerg tell the truth.

Ok kid.

Holy fuck you code monkeys are more autistic then us network guys.

Stop fucking with the

It was fucked the moment YOU touched it, what's the difference?

It was fucked the moment YOU touched it, what's the difference?

I won't deny that the codebase was a mistake and so was letting I code, but at least it ran.

Can we say the same now ?

All it matters is that it works! /s

Yes, you autistic mongoloid. Wether it work is the most important thing in a project.

Sorry about caring about whether it will work if I change a single line later.

Look, the implementation might be a chimera with the cancer, but at it work (mostly) as intended.

Now repeat it in English.

the project working>good coding practice.

Clearly just some skid who never had to work with code written 10 years ago by idiots like himself.

>Not rewriting the codebase in ten years.

Why do you work for anything else than a startup fam ?

Talk when you'll be working instead of ad hoc skidding from stack overflow.

Can't even argue against that, tbh.

Me too thanks

I was thinking about posting this, but after looking at how much effort you put into this minor shit, it's clear I made the right decision.

Vidrun, fierce and clever, may our clan’s wisdom be yours:

Never read Hacker News

True, it's low-grade drama but still felt like something that should be documented. Besides there'll be more later as the Python world hasn't been healthy for a while.

I never touch HN because it's weird and autistic.

/r/programmingcirclejerk is the only community left

lol no generic community

I mean, requests are good, but he seems like a faggot, maybe should have kept some of that good shit for himself as a human being.

Dude watch what you say, you're talking about the prolific Kenneth Reitz, of Requests fame. His groupies and superfans might come after you.

Pythonfags have nothing on me.

Wow! Packaging code in current year. Just kubernetes ur dockers.

Or, how would BuzzFeed put it

We went from "it works on my computer" to "here's my computer" (and why that's fine)

Is a Terry "situation" brewing?

python is just haskell for brainlets

Haskell is a meme language that's dying out. At least Python has some utility, despite being babby's first code.

distilled /g/, aka mental retardation.

programming in python

not holyc

yuck

I don't understand any of this at all.

The so-called prolific Kenneth Reitz, of Requests fame, undergoing a required psychological evaluation?

lmao, has anyone ever downloaded something on pip and gone "Wow, I really want to know more about the man who made this"
