I went through the all-too-common "this must be a troll" denial and peeked into Caelrie's comment history for supporting evidence. Nope. Looks to be a real true-believing Ghazelle who simply can't fathom another person not liking a movie for non-political reasons.
Hmm. It seems I have clocked on some posts of theirs over the last few months. I guess the username Caelrie doesn't really stand out enough for me to remember it.
Isn't getting together for pity parties a big Feminist (women only, ofc) thing? I remember some sad, sad, stories of feminist men speaking up, and even with the obligatory bowing and scraping they still got shat on.
You can find dozens of pieces by psychologists and studies showing all venting does is make you addicted to the feeling you get right after venting, and then you want to vent some more. Meanwhile, you're not dealing with the problems that are making you want to vent.
So..so close to self-awareness that it causes me physical discomfort to read it. ` is a bunch of pseudoscientific bullshit, but still, it's stupid.
b) it was below mediocre comedy just like Ghostbusters 2 and not even a cast of actually funny women would have saved it, because writting was shit.
c) Joe didn't came out as anything he always had these opinions...even back when he actually made gaming reviews...and no, lol I don't think that he would post on Ghazi.
It was made basically by the people who did Bridesmaids. Same director, a lot of the cast are from that movie. Bridesmaids was not a bad movie, but it was definitely a chickflick, and trying to produce a Ghostbusters from a chickflick cast was definitely weird. It just didn't work out.
Plus a lot of the members of the cast do have generally funny stuff, other times they can be kind of cringey. Look at Melissa McCarthy's history for instance, some of her stuff is genuinely good, some is awful.
Still it got like 1000x the amount of hate that an equally bad movie usually would've gotten. You had misogynists crowding in trying to amplify the voice of the people who hated it, and then you had people who were not really being misogynistic at all being labelled as such just through association (like James Wolfe, AKA the Angry Video Game Nerd, who got labelled a misogynist although his in his video hating on the movie he did not even make a single misogynistic statement). Overall a complete and total clusterfuck indicative of how retarded modern society is.
I thought Bridesmaid was really good, but Ghostbuster 2016 sucked.
Sometimes the same group that made something awesome gets together and makes something that sucks. Tommy Boy was good, Black Sheep was horrible. The Hangover was good, the sequels were trash. Old School was good, but there's a bunch of Apatow movies that are horseshit.
It was made basically by the people who did Bridesmaids. Same director, a lot of the cast are from that movie. Bridesmaids was not a bad movie, but it was definitely a chickflick, and trying to produce a Ghostbusters from a chickflick cast was definitely weird. It just didn't work out.
Problem was Paul Feig co-wrote Ghostbusters instead of Kristen Wig (who co-wrote bridesmaids). The issue being Paul Feig can't write
I think Plinkett's analysis of why it sucked is about as spot on as you can get. The issue wasn't the cast, who were all talented (and as he aptly points out casting can rarely make an otherwise good movie)
The issue was bad unfunny writing by two people who A. Clearly didn't understand what made Ghostbusters funny and 2. Write adlib heavy Judd Apatow style comedy which lends itself to everyday life stories but not to a fantasy setting which is why the movie seemed so directionless and off tone, and that as a director Paul Feig clearly doesn't know how to tell actors no, mix that with a movie that is simultaneously trying to be a new story and a beat for beat remake, sprinkle gratuitous product placement and cheap fan service while also essentially making the villain a caricature of your fan base, and you've got a movie that makes Ghostbusters 2 look good.
A cynical person might wonder if Sony didn't purposefully make that first trailer awful just so they could push the "people dislike it cuz misogyny" angle because they knew it was trash that was gonna bomb and tried to find a way to mitigate that.
The one important thing I can't imagine anyone at the studio ended up learning though was that all those flaws were secondary to the fact that it was fundamentally a movie nobody wanted. Ghostbusters fans wouldn't have wanted a remake (rather than a sequel with the original cast) no matter who was in it, and non-ghostbusters fans didn't give a shit one way or the other
The thing I commend is the marketing staff who managed to convince $230 million bucks worth of people that seeing that turd was a political act.
Which is another thing. On no planet does a Ghostbusters movie need to be so expensive that you gross 230 million yet still lose money.
One of their favorite tactics is insisting that all hate is due to misogyny, and once they've realized that no one is buying it, just say "it got more hate than it would have otherwise", since they know there's no way to quantify that and they just want to go by their feelings.
Not just a beloved movie, but one with impeccable writing, exceptional comedic performances, great pacing and cinematography and a chart topping soundtrack. It was next to impossible for anyone to live up to.
My only gripe with the remake is that it's just another corporate attempt to drain our wallets while giving us the same thing we already got, promising it as something new, and we fall for every time.
With the end of Alex Jones upon us, theres a huge window for left wingers and just normal fucking people to retake that platform from Nazis, their apologists, their enablers, and their allies.
This is a genuinely interesting view into how some people think. They believe people will turn around and flock to the people encouraging the censorship of others? I mean, I'd think people would specifically be resentful of them for that, but maybe they're right and it will turn out well for them, this wouldn't be the first time I was wrong about human nature.
70-80% of people are smart enough to know that none of it actually means anything. Politics is such a joke, specifically with regards to the people entrenched in a specific "ideology". Worthless
They're pathetic subhuman vermin, like Neo-Nazis, who need an enemy to fight to make up for how pathetic they are, and Muslims aren't politically correct.
This is a genuinely interesting view into how some people think. They believe people will turn around and flock to the ones encouraging the censorship of others?
Alex Jones is being banned from Facebook, that's it. AFAIK hey aren't calling for him arrested for his speech, or to be barred from all the internet. Whining about this just seems like what you'd get when an angry 15 year wants to call someone a fascist when they get banned from a forum.
And seriously it's Alex Jones, the guy who commits slander/libel by calling the family of school shooting victims crisis actors. He'd be banned from a lot of places if he were some no-name 16 year old saying the same things and no one would think it strange.
Also, I don’t think Angry Joe should necessarily be applauded or fully embraced for the fact that he isn’t a Nazi or Gator. That doesn’t make him a progressive hero. He’s still mostly a centrist who has tried to play things down the middle.
This is why I absolutely believe entertainment should be left to the free market. It means that SJWs can't push stupid bullshit that the public won't like, or at least, they're less effective in doing so. Plus if there's a market failure, it's not at all an essential industry, so no big deal.
With the end of Alex Jones upon us, theres a huge window for left wingers and just normal fucking people to retake that platform from Nazis, their apologists, their enablers, and their allies.
Why do they do that? Alex jones is not a nazi and calling him one only weakens both criticisms against Alex Jones and actual Nazis.
Words have meaning and nazi should not mean "I dislike them"
Even gamerghazis are smart enough to know that a diverse/woman-led cast won't guarantee a movie is good, and if they treat it like it's a saving grace every shitty movie studio will put that in thinking it'll protect them from criticism or at least be enough to lure them into whatever shit they make.
