Unless the legislature stops spending our money on things like that stupid fucking train or we repeal/greatly amend prop 13 I think it's gonna get really fucking bad. Especially once the earthquake we all know is coming finally hits.
Their liabilities are no worse than the US as a whole, and CA makes up a gigantic portion of the US' total economic output. So nothing is going to happen unless the whole country is cold fucked anyway
Well, yeah it is similar to the US as a whole. And the US is fucked once their liabilities come due (looking at you, social security). I don’t necessarily think it will have that massive of an effect on the whole country; I’m guessing California will just raise taxes on everything to make up for it.
The US isn't even remotely fucked due to SS. We'll simply have to raise the caps on paying into it to remove the incentive that companies have to drive ever-increasing amounts of compensation to their management.
The US is going to do the same thing that you think CA is going to do...
California, 5th biggest economy in the world. Ahead of entire nations like the UK and France. A name associated with advanced and futuristic around the world.
Georgia, gets cucked by some ex soviet shithole and has to clarify that it's the state, not the country. Literally who?
You're correct. Northern Cali does, which is so different from Southern Cali they could be 2 different states.
Part of the reason they can afford to do so is because they have no problem underpaying illegal immigrants.
I'm not saying California isn't prosperous, I'm agreeing with both of you. I'm just saying it's a shit hole for everyone who isn't rich. Saudi Arabia is literally pumps money and looks beautiful. They also disregard human rights and have sharia courts.
Giving illegal immigrants jobs at market rate isn't immoral. Californians would give them all green cards if they could, the federal government is the one keeping them illegal, they're the ones who are immoral.
Right now, a lot of illegal immigrants would rather be illegal in California than be legal in their home country, it's the best choice in a bad situation.
Lol Californians that are giving illegal immigrants the right to vote in some cities won't give them legal status? Most Californians support legalization of illegal immigrants.
Yeah of course they are. Doesn't make it okay for them to come in illegally, under pay them, or have their competition fuck over native low skilled workers.
They do rustle the jimmies of low iq whites though so it's a mixed bag of results.
If you have the benefits of a first-world education growing up and end up losing your shitty manual labour job to a completely unskilled immigrant, you have it coming.
It is a HUGE agricultural state. So, it is propped up by Holllywood, Tech Businesses, and Farming. In fact, a lot of fruits and nuts (I think like one or two veggies too) Cali produces 99% of them.I actually think Cali brings in the most money from farming out of all the states. I know it is either the first or second.
I guess, it has one of the biggest agriculture in the US and one of the top money makers in comparison to everyone else with farming. But California makes so much fucking money with everything else, even being the top Farming state it is very small when put up with the rest of its economy.
So, I guess you are right. Even being the top farming money maker in the US is nothing compared to the rest of the economic powerhouse that is the failing Cali sate.
it has one of the biggest agriculture in the US and one of the top money makers in comparison to everyone else with farming.
True.
But California makes so much fucking money with everything else, even being the top Farming state it is very small when put up with the rest of its economy.
Yeah, it's exactly this. Agricultural makes up less than 2% of our economy. Tech, manufacturing, and finance are just too strong.
No, the conservatives commentators are more like "sure, it may look good now, but we're going to be a third world country any day now!" So it's not all that uncommon to hear people mention the currently strong California about to fail. I hear "failed state" about CA so much that's it's a meme at this point, and one that's gone from making me roll my eyes in the past to making me laugh as of late.
Exactly. And the impotent rage of those claiming it's a failed state sustain me. The income inequality does suck, but the CA Dems platform is all about tackling that in the upcoming legislative season. Hell, we have 2 propositions about helping the homeless that will probably pass tonight (they're not comprehensive but show the population wants to tackle the issue and are willing to put the money towards it).
I don't see how STDs, especially a number close to the middle like #17 is worth mentioning.
7 in inequality
Big areas and richer areas always have more inequality. California is one of the richest states and has the largest population, ofcourse it'll be more unequal than average.
I'll give you the education (excluding post secondary) and housing affordability though. California has one of the best post-secondary education system and YIMBYism is becoming more popular everyday so housing should become more affordable in the future.
Having more than two cities in a state is a hard concept for people from the bumfuck nowhere states to grasp. Let alone having a prosperous agricultural sector.
It's absolute garbage for everyone who isn't upper middle/upper class.
The entire country is garbage for anyone who isn't middle/upper class.
The 'housing affordability' is because it's the most desirable place in the country to live. High desirability = high prices. You're essentially pointing out that it's a great place and then knocking them for that
California now has the highest poverty rate in the nation - yes, literally behind Mississippi, when you adjust for COL. It's dysfunctional in more ways that you can put down, and will probably be defaulting and failing with the next tech recession.
They take in the most illegal immigrants and most of them are poor, I'd imagine a good portion of that figure are illegal immigrants. "Poverty" in the US is better than an average life in most other countries.
It's also because of the ridiculously high housing prices because of all the NIMBYism. Californians have seen the effects of NIMBYism now and are becoming more YIMBY every day. I'd bet the poverty rate would decrease because of the lower housing costs than increase in the coming years.
CA has 27% immigrants, of which 3/4ths are legal and thus are probably on the high end of the economy. GA has 10% of immigrants, most of which are in agriculture and thus with low wages.
Whatever the argument you make, California has made itself into the most poverty-stricken state in the country. I go there and outside a few places where the rich live it looks sad and forlorn and more like a Mexican province during a currency crisis than it does an American state. IMO it is the epicenter of the master class+servitor class alliance that's the template for the Democratic party, and that's not a good development. One of the reasons why progressives are so obsessed with wealth inequality is that it is particularly pronounced in blue states. California doesn't have much reason to brag. It's been getting steadily worse for a long time.
California, 5th biggest economy in the world. Ahead of entire nations like the UK and France. Its name is associated with advanced and futuristic stuff around the world.
“California state and local governments owe $1.3 trillion as of June 30, 2015.” The study was based on “a review of federal, state and local financial disclosures.” In other words, that $1.3 trillion in debt is the amount to which California governments admit

I hate backwards red necks as much as will ferre and Oprah, butbsaying California is rich is like knowing that guy who makes a good amount of money but not anymore than $150k but has Lambos and a mansion and vacations in the Maldives every 6 months. They are massively in debt.
It's funny because Atlanta is more like libtard cali than the rest of the state, the city also happens to be the only reason Georgia is economically relevant, because it constitute like 62% or so of the state's GDP, and is home to 15 Fortune500 companies.
You're telling me the city with the biggest airport in the world, world class universities and thriving businesses is the reason Georgia is doing well and not the counties in South Georgia where the whole county has one gas station?
Op I hate to break it to you but cali is terrible. My boyfriend is from there and every time we go visit it isn't that great.
Some of the people there are rotten, there are way too many people, the crime is bad. Where I live I can leave my car doors unlocked if I wanted (I don't though lol)- I don't even go anywhere in cali by myself. Traffic is awful, prices are astronomically high, the weather is blistering hot and the grass is crunchy and gross (at least in south california). It is hell on earth, at least to me. The palm trees are nice and my boyfriend's family is nice, but those are the only 2 things I like about California.
Oregon or Washington is probably a lot better, you just have to ignore antifa directing traffic.
I like Georgia. But my home state is Ohio and the most eventful thing that happened in Ohio in the past year was a bunch of corn flooded the highway so pretty much anything is a step up from ohio.
You're right, it sucks because the cost of living is ridiculous, the wealthy keep pulling the ladder up behind themselves and create borderline favelas surrounding the cities for their servants to live in, everyone is an obnoxious political sperg, and public infrastructure is such garbage you'll spend three hours a day in your car unless you make more than $100k a year.
I live in Atlanta and I can tell you that the split between red and blue is pretty much even with some favor towards left, but not much. Then again I live in Buckhead and not the shithole that is south Atlanta

California is propped up by Silicon Valley and Hollywood. It's absolute garbage for everyone who isn't upper middle class.
Out of 50 states it's ranked:
California is prosperous but don't make it sound like it's a fucking futuristic paradise. It's essentially the Saudi Arabia of America.
