This last election has been freeing for me. Why didn't the "wizards" just cast themselves out of the dullest franchise in the history of movie franchises? Seriously each episode following the boy wizard and his pals from Hogwarts Academy as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the gloomy imagery, the series’ only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of special effects, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert.
Perhaps the die was cast when Rowling vetoed the idea of Spielberg directing the series; she made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody?just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for her books. The Harry Potter series might be anti-Christian (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-James Bond series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.

"No!" The writing is dreadful; the book was terrible. As I read, I noticed that every time a character went for a walk, the author wrote instead that the character "stretched his legs."
I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Rowling's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that she has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Harry Potter by the same Stephen King. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are reading Harry Potter at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to read Stephen King." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you read "Harry Potter" you are, in fact, trained to read Stephen King.
Harry Potter has black and white characters. Pretty much all the characters except Snape can easily be classified into good or evil. It fits their world view where everyone is either an evil alt right nazi or a good social justice warrior and everyone who says people are more complicated than that are basically nazi apologists.
Harry Potter hits a bunch of notes that appeal to SJW types. It's not JUST that every character is a caricature of good and evil or they'd end up liking all sorts of children's shit, some of which is actually good. Lord of the Rings is a story about an evil force corrupting the minds of virtuous people, people going on different journeys to do what they think is right, persevering through all the hardships in a world that can effortlessly kill you, the importance of a random person with no special qualities.

I always figured that I had to argue with people because they are obviously rational and would realize a logical error or something when presented evidence. Ever since Trump has been in office, there's been so much batshit insane rhetoric, lies, and just ridiculous levels of aggression. It opened my eyes to just how many people out there on both sides of the political spectrum are completely happy with acting irrationally when it pertains to politics.

Why didn't the "wizards" just cast themselves out of the dullest franchise in the history of movie franchises? Seriously each episode following the boy wizard and his pals from Hogwarts Academy as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the gloomy imagery, the series’ only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of special effects, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert.
Perhaps the die was cast when Rowling vetoed the idea of Spielberg directing the series; she made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody?just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for her books. The Harry Potter series might be anti-Christian (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-James Bond series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.

"No!" The writing is dreadful; the book was terrible. As I read, I noticed that every time a character went for a walk, the author wrote instead that the character "stretched his legs."
I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Rowling's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that she has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Harry Potter by the same Stephen King. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are reading Harry Potter at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to read Stephen King." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you read "Harry Potter" you are, in fact, trained to read Stephen King.

Harry Potter hits a bunch of notes that appeal to SJW types. It's not JUST that every character is a caricature of good and evil or they'd end up liking all sorts of children's shit, some of which is actually good. Lord of the Rings is a story about an evil force corrupting the minds of virtuous people, people going on different journeys to do what they think is right, persevering through all the hardships in a world that can effortlessly kill you, the importance of a random person with no special qualities.
I'm sure even SJWs will pretend they like those lessons, but if they've fully drunk the kool aid, all of that goes against their dogma of righteous (((progressives))) vs literal Nazis only worse. SJWs claim that having Nazi propaganda will make normal people start agreeing with Nazis, but in practice they don't believe anyone to the right of Leon Trotsky is irredeemable.
