If you support free speech, you must support people pinging other users. It's completely legal speech. If you won't defend pinging as free speech because you or someone else finds it disgusting, then no speech that you or anyone else views as disgusting is safe.
if it is in fact on shaky legal ground it's reasonable to not want to be the case that establishes it as illegal.
It's not, The reddit admins are straight up lying to the ignorant (like yourself) to justify their prejudice. Pinging being protected speech has long since been estabilished, as it has undeniable artistic merit. The only time it's been included under any obscenity laws is when someone is being charged with possession of harassment, so the state can slap them with more charges. The courts have been very careful to not charge anyone for pinging, because they'd get their asses fucking annihilated by a higher court due to the firm precedence of pinging being completely legal speech. /r/Drama had nothing to worry about, this guy was just making shit up to fool people into thinking his censoring wasn't entirely personally motivated.

"I suggested we'd be better served by empathizing with the shooter, his anger and isolation, and use that as a framework for coming up with changes we can make to our education system that might actually help prevent shootings in the future."
There are millions and millions of people who have gone to college without ever killing people. If you read about the Virginia Tech shooter and think to yourself, "Hey, this guy's ideas might not be so bad" then you might have a little murderous tendencies yourself.
"I suggested we'd be better served by empathizing with the shooter, his anger and isolation, and use that as a framework for coming up with changes we can make to our education system that might actually help prevent shootings in the future."
good for him. that is the right answer.
Did you forget that you wrote that comment? How would changing the education system to cater to a murderer's ideas not be agreeing with him?
How would changing the education system to cater to a murderer's ideas not be agreeing with him?
empathizing with the shooter, his anger and isolation, and use that as a framework for coming up with changes we can make to our education system that might actually help prevent shootings in the future
There's no way your reading comprehension is that bad. Don't be a retard.
You're assuming there's anything to empathize about in regards to the Virginia Tech shooter. The dude was a psycho, and if he didn't shoot up the college, he would have shot up another venue. Empathizing with mass shooters is how you get Columbine-wannabes. Weirdos are gonna be weirdos. Yeah you can recognize the behavioral patterns in shooters and possibly stop them ahead of time, but don't romanticize that the responsibility of murdering people is on anyone else's hands other than the psycho.
If weirdos are gonna be weirdos, why did college/school shootings barely happen before 1990? And why are the topmost motives of attackers bullying/persecution (75%) and revenge (61%)
Use your brain muscle. It makes no sense that school shooters are just weirdos being undesirable and rightfully maligned weirdos and that we can't do anything about it, because it's a new phenomenon.
Because presumably weirdos also existed prior to the 1990s, but for some reason they didn't shoot their classmates.
Just because a new trend is out for psychos does not mean that something fundamental has changed about the American education system.
It only establishes that something in the kid's enviroments has changed- but we don't know what. Back then they blamed games like Doom, a decade ago they blamed the internet and how people would isolate themselves, and now they're blaming the media idolizing previous shooters. Some of these are more true than the others, of course.
Oddly enough this is what you're also claiming. You're saying that something has changed, but you've yet to back up your claim that the fucking education system needs to be changed for some reason???
empathizing with the shooter, his anger and isolation, and use that as a framework for coming up with changes we can make to our education system that might actually help prevent shootings in the future
Even oddjob here doesn't claim to know that changing the education system will help, just that by understanding the problem we could maybe know what changes to make rather than just going "dude weirdos lmao". Why does that sound so terribly fuckin' objectionable to you?
Lmao faggot you know I was right about that. You still have no reason to point your finger at the education system, and backpedalling to vague statements won't change that.
Analyzing why the shooters shoot is a good idea. Trying to emphasize with psychos is not, due to the definition of the word "psycho". And jumping the gun on the education system is plain dumb.
And hopefully you realize he did jump the gun- or do you suggest the original statement mentions education system for no reason?
Trying to emphasize with psychos is not, due to the definition of the word "psycho".
Pure brainlet. Putting yourself in the shoes of a psycho is essential to understanding why they do what they do. You don't gloss over this part of the analysis just because it sounds gross and icky to you.
he is implicitly implying it's the education system's fault with no good reasoning.
He's suggesting that it might be the case. Look at how gingerly the statement was made. You're reading it like an absolute autist. You might even be more autistic than he is.
yeah i can totally see why that epic kekistani killed his mother when i think about it. thanks for the epic tip bro
He's suggesting that it might be the case
ima just do this cuz u illiterate boi
There's a reason why he didn't say "we should emphasize with the faggot to come up with changes we can make to our entertainment culture that might actually help prevent shootings in the future
Presumably weirdos also existed prior to the 1990s, but for some reason they didn't shoot their classmates.
Because, believe it or not, but "I'm angery and dissatisfied with the world, therefore I should go and shoot up a school" isn't the most obvious logical connection. AFAIK the first ever guy to come up with it was https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Whitman in 1966, apparently inspired by a brain tumor.
I carefully read https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_school_shootings_in_the_United_States and there were shootings in schools before then, but no real school shootings, despite much more lax attitude to guns (you can actually see it from the stuff like "a 9-grader accidentally shot another 9-grader while boasting of his new revolver").
But of course once that one guy set the pattern and the society reacted to it with horror and fascination, other weirdos had something to copy.
Did he ever say these ideas are not so bad? From what I read, he saidhe could understand why someone could react in such murderous ways, but by no means was he supporting it.
Have you ever read Mr.elliot rodger's manifesto? More info came up where he was autistic and shit... I dont agree with his perspective, but I can see possible ideas of why he was driven to such retardation
Empathize doesn't mean excuse, support, nor agree. It means understand.
You can't fix a problem if you don't understand it from all angles. If you can't actually understand why a person kills others aside from "oh, he's a bad man with bad morals, bad ideas, and bad luck", then you'd be like most people. Somebody who doesn't like bad people, and doesn't want to think about them.
If you want to help prevent future incidents, well, good luck finding a consistent solution that works. You've only seen part of the problem, and you only have part of a solution.
Im honestly curious where he thinks this particular line of reasoning would lead. School administrators assigning besties to potential school shooters? Or maybe a program designed to provide girlfriends to angry, mentally ill dudes? Kind of like GovtGetsGirlfriend used to advocate for?
Seems like more edgy bullshit that sounds good until you actually think about it. Then its dumb. I bet a lot of r/drama posters love the idea!
Dis you read his news letter? Heās clearly an edgy fuck trying to trigger people. I wouldnāt take anything he says seriously or read to deep into it.
Yeah, but there was more to it. He basically said he could understand why someone could do such a thing and also he said that anyone who never felt so angry that they wanted to kill a bunch of people were lying.
From what I understand, you can try to see from a shooters perspective, bit it doesnt mean you agree with it
Girls donāt like me because I make them think. Contrary to popular belief, girls donāt actually like it when youāre unique, or interesting, or when you ask them questions and then listen to their answers. Every single time I meet a girl, once we get past all the āwhatās-your-major-where-are-you-fromā crap, and I steer the conversation towards something deeper like politics, religion, sex, anal sex, etc., she unfailingly loses all interest in me.
/r/subredditdrama doesnāt like me because I make them think. Yeah, after reading a bit of this guys stuff, he's actually a talented provocateur. And the dudes been on the social justice beat since at least 2007. Hats off to an OG.
No, he's not normal. Most of you can go to a bar and meet a girl and start a philosophical conversation and a girl will eat that up. That's because most of you are retards who don't know anything about philosophy, so it makes her feel smarter than she really is. If you're actually intelligent, which isn't normal, and try to have intellectual discussions with women it just pisses them off because they feel like you're trying to lord your obvious superiority over them. They don't like that, mostly because they want to be the one lording their obvious superiority over others. All women think they're smart and men are dumb. When a man breaks that paradigm and reminds them they're not really that bright it pisses them off on a primal level.
Yet another reason men are better than women, IMO.
This is shockingly accurate and applies to people of both sexes. Which is why smart people learn how to adjust theur conversation skills to whoever they are talking to.
Often you get to learn something from the other person too, which is cool.
To be pedantic, adjusting your language for an audience doesn't really determine your intelligence. But it is a underappreciated skill that can be practiced.
You can be smart yet not be too influential. I can know how to say a sentence perfectly in English, but am I less intelligent than a bilingual who can say the same in Portuguese? Maybe. The underlying ideas are the same, so I don't see why my fancier/lower vocab makes me dumber.
At first I thought that was just a joke, but as I read more and more of the essay it really does come off that he thinks he's just smarter than everyone else.
More specifically, we will be discussing the myth of the female orgasm.
Women generally prefer that you jam your penis into their vaginas as quickly as possible during sex, ideally before it is wet at all, so they can really feel it. They will express their appreciation for this by saying, "ow." Once you wriggle your way in, just pound away as fast and as hard as you can.
š¤£š¤£š¤£This is better than parody and itās almost hard to believe a person like this actually exists.
I think this guy has to be a super committed satirist. I read some of his newsletters and there's moments of lucidity, but they're always followed by the opposite-of-correct conclusions. And they're too frequent and precise to just be the ramblings of a mad man...
If you're gonna be a serial killer, bullets have a harder time going through multiple adults. Now, I'm no serial murderer, but I'm pretty damn good at math.
No. Massive increases in funding for research into best practices AND generous funding for primary educational focuses should be where society's funding and taxes are spent.
Children learn best when they are young, and paying for idiots who are already lost to get worthless degrees in what should have been middle school educational qualities is a misappropriation of funds.
The guy is a perfect example of how you need to have a good bit of talent to pull off sarcasm. Jonathan Swift he ain't...
He doesn't have it so it ends up being the "har har I was only pretending to be retarded" excuse...which really doesn't help when you look like the typical incel.
I also love how he has moved to California with the expectation that he will write his memoirs and get a movie deal for it...because nothing says epic bio-pic like 23 year old internet edge lord..
I was a senior at VT in 2007 and duck this guy and everything he's about. Also, please tell me VT hasn't added gender studies classes to the core curriculum.
It's funny because plenty of users in this sub act the same way here but we all accept it as an act. But when he does it in the real world it's suddenly insanity.
Okay, after reading more stuff about him I now do believe that he is right when he says he is left leaning. I also believe it's all satire and nothing more. Actually, while I don't know what he thinks about the world I'm certain that he is not stupid and he is just fucking with those Redditors.
The AMA is actually very interesting if you think about it that way. He did make the statements that got him banned at a gender studies department. So no freaking wonder they felt threatened by them. I'm just not sure any other kind of student would feel the same way. Especially when you know that he is a satirist.
>I said that we've all had violent thoughts, and if we pretend we haven't, we're lying. We live in a violent society (the U.S.) and humans are violent animals. Instead of pretending that isn't the case, we should figure out why that violence is being directed toward institutions like schools, especially huge crappy schools that dehumanize their students.

Mint
Both.

Every single time I meet a girl, once we get past all the āwhatās-your-major-where-are-you-fromā crap, and I steer the conversation towards something deeper like politics, religion, sex, anal sex, etc., she unfailingly loses all interest in me.
Lmfao what the fuck?
1 The_Great_I_Am_Not 2019-01-01
What? You don't consider anal sex deep conversation on par with religion and politics?
1 scatmunchies 2019-01-01
Something deeper, like anal sex.
1 ComedicSans 2019-01-01
There's some cheap joke about him being a mayo, anal sex, and it not actually being deeper. But I'm too lazy.

/r/subredditdrama doesnāt like me because I make them think. Contrary to popular belief, SRDines donāt actually like it when youāre unique, or interesting, or when you ask them questions and then listen to their answers. Every single time I meet a SRDine, once we get past all the āwhatās-your-major-where-are-you-fromā crap, and I steer the conversation towards something deeper like radical centrism, lolcows, bussy, taytay, etc., they unfailingly lose all interest in me.
1 Cubiro 2019-01-01
It's a joke. Sometimes people make fun comments and then these are jokes
1 BIknkbtKitNwniS 2019-01-01
After seeing his comment on the female orgasm it appears you're right.
1 jorio 2019-01-01
Yeah, after reading a bit of this guys stuff, he's actually a talented provocateur. And the dudes been on the social justice beat since at least 2007. Hats off to an OG.
1 jubbergun 2019-01-01
1 mcslibbin 2019-01-01
This is shockingly accurate and applies to people of both sexes. Which is why smart people learn how to adjust theur conversation skills to whoever they are talking to.
Often you get to learn something from the other person too, which is cool.
1 ncnotebook 2019-01-01
To be pedantic, adjusting your language for an audience doesn't really determine your intelligence. But it is a underappreciated skill that can be practiced.
You can be smart yet not be too influential. I can know how to say a sentence perfectly in English, but am I less intelligent than a bilingual who can say the same in Portuguese? Maybe. The underlying ideas are the same, so I don't see why my fancier/lower vocab makes me dumber.
1 Aiwatcher 2019-01-01
At first I thought that was just a joke, but as I read more and more of the essay it really does come off that he thinks he's just smarter than everyone else.
1 jaredschaffer27 2019-01-01
Are you kidding me? Spinning my objectively weird hobbies and skill into "unique" is the only fucking way I get past first base.

LOL, cope
Women don't care about anything except your looks
1 jaredschaffer27 2019-01-01

1 suicidalsouthafrican 2019-01-01
So retarded
1 Karmaisforsuckers 2019-01-01
It goes for both Men and Women. Being 'unique' in any way is only seen as a positive if you are attractive or wealthy

š¤£š¤£š¤£This is better than parody and itās almost hard to believe a person like this actually exists.
1 Anarcho_Autism 2019-01-01
I think this guy has to be a super committed satirist. I read some of his newsletters and there's moments of lucidity, but they're always followed by the opposite-of-correct conclusions. And they're too frequent and precise to just be the ramblings of a mad man...
1 ComedicSans 2019-01-01
I'm really struggling to determine why they think he's a future serial killer or school shooter.
1 brd4eva 2019-01-01
Future /r/drama poster.
1 satanismyhomeboy 2019-01-01
Both then?
1 ncnotebook 2019-01-01
If you're gonna be a serial killer, bullets have a harder time going through multiple adults. Now, I'm no serial murderer, but I'm pretty damn good at math.
1 AnnoyinTheGoyim 2019-01-01
If you think heās being serious there, you are probably retarded.
1 Strictlybutters 2019-01-01
Do you don your cape before writing that comment?

Some people argue that college/university should be subsidized.
I think not.
1 ironicshitpostr 2019-01-01
It should be taxed
1 The_Great_I_Am_Not 2019-01-01
No. Massive increases in funding for research into best practices AND generous funding for primary educational focuses should be where society's funding and taxes are spent.
Children learn best when they are young, and paying for idiots who are already lost to get worthless degrees in what should have been middle school educational qualities is a misappropriation of funds.
1 Couldnt_think_of_a 2019-01-01

This honestly reads like super-committed Andy Kaufmann style performance comedy.
1 JustStopDude 2019-01-01
The guy is a perfect example of how you need to have a good bit of talent to pull off sarcasm. Jonathan Swift he ain't...
He doesn't have it so it ends up being the "har har I was only pretending to be retarded" excuse...which really doesn't help when you look like the typical incel.
I also love how he has moved to California with the expectation that he will write his memoirs and get a movie deal for it...because nothing says epic bio-pic like 23 year old internet edge lord..
1 shallowm 2019-01-01
I think he should be a mod on /r/drama tbqh, his sperging would be a good addition to this sub.
1 itsrattlesnake 2019-01-01
I was a senior at VT in 2007 and duck this guy and everything he's about. Also, please tell me VT hasn't added gender studies classes to the core curriculum.
1 JurijFedorov 2019-01-01
It's funny because plenty of users in this sub act the same way here but we all accept it as an act. But when he does it in the real world it's suddenly insanity.
1 JurijFedorov 2019-01-01
Okay, after reading more stuff about him I now do believe that he is right when he says he is left leaning. I also believe it's all satire and nothing more. Actually, while I don't know what he thinks about the world I'm certain that he is not stupid and he is just fucking with those Redditors.
The AMA is actually very interesting if you think about it that way. He did make the statements that got him banned at a gender studies department. So no freaking wonder they felt threatened by them. I'm just not sure any other kind of student would feel the same way. Especially when you know that he is a satirist.
1 demotecontrol 2019-01-01
>I said that we've all had violent thoughts, and if we pretend we haven't, we're lying. We live in a violent society (the U.S.) and humans are violent animals. Instead of pretending that isn't the case, we should figure out why that violence is being directed toward institutions like schools, especially huge crappy schools that dehumanize their students.
