Making arbitrary distinctions between members of different species in an attempt to justify differences in treatment sounds more of a meme than being logically consistent when it comes to giving moral consideration to others.
If you don't love your pet more than a bunch of chickens, don't get a pet. I'm on my cats' side, I would personally rape and strangle human beings to feed them, so don't think for a second I'm going to waste any time torturing a bunch of farm animals to death to feed thsm.

I know a vegan who is actually really cool about her lifestyle choice, but some of those fuckin people are just completely off the deep end. Honestly, the top comment was right, threads like that do make their community look like shit.

I’ve personally seen two dogs on vegan diets alone (not counting the grain free, weird protein diets) get diagnosed with end stage heart disease. They were both being fed vegan because their parents were vegan.
I used to think it was the lawyers first against the wall, but we shall spare them for a time. It will be people using "parents" as pet owners unironically.
