Is there a worse/more narcissistic idea than posting about your weight loss journey on social media?

79  2019-03-02 by MasterLawlz

I've recently started to follow a decent amount of YouTube channels regarding the subject and while some are very cool, others show just how bad of an idea it can be.

There was a YouTube video that went viral a couple of years ago where a guy who was over 300 pounds cut down to something like 170. He made a youtube channel called Danny_Getsfit and started putting himself out there as a fitness/weight loss mogul and started selling his service. And that sounds great and all....

....Except he ended up gaining something like 40 pounds or more within a year or two. Had he done this in privacy, he could have just corrected course and it would have been no big deal but since he put himself out there so much, people shit on him and call him a hypocrite. It's especially ridiculous because on his website where he advertises his training services, he only uses old pictures. What's worse is that the idiot recently married some woman that has a binge eating disorder and got a gastric surgery at like 19 or something. And she recently announced that she is pregnant. So I legitimately think that his chances of long-term success are next to none because they're going to be constantly causing one another to return to old habits and he can't get out of the situation without filing for divorce and splitting custody.

Even worse, one YouTuber named Amberlynn Reidd started her weight loss channel several years back when she was 300-something pounds and has actually GAINED 200 pounds since it started.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying people shouldn't get healthy but if you're gonna put your "journey" out there online then you better be sure that you're gonna keep it off because otherwise you'll do more harm than good. There's one YouTuber named ObeseToBeast that not only kept it off but I believe runs a gym now and he's a great guy to watch. But it seems like for every one of him, there are many others who did not. I genuinely wonder how many people on /r/progresspics still look like that.

I have a genuine question though, WHY would people want before and after pics to even be available to the public? I genuinely don't know why you would want people to be able to see how you looked at your lowest just so you could get likes or upvotes or whatever.

You didn't even read it, did you? You just disregarded it because it doesn't fit your world view. You are pathetic, scum of the earth. People present you with scientifically backed evidence showing how the world really is and you disregard it because it is brought to your attention by a group of people you find inferior to you.

yes

you posting shitty content on sticky spots

good thing I only post grade- A shit then!

Your name is masterlawlz but never once have I lawlzed at a post of yours

That sounds like a personal problem.

Fuck I just Lawlzed at your comment

Masterlawlz is hilarious because of the drama he causes within the subreddit whenever he posts one of his stickies

Take the grade a out and your statement is true.

Its over for power-user-cels

Interesting post Lawlz. I think if you own up to the fact you're bragging there is no problem. I think its embarrassing to brag about in the first place, but at least they weren't permanently a fat fuck

Allah Akbar

It's not necessarily the bragging that's the issue. The bigger issue is that you might regain the weight later for whatever reason (which happens a lot) and if you put yourself EVERYWHERE on social media then it will probably be even more humiliating than when you were fat the first time.

The Danny_getsfit guy said that he gets called fat more now than he ever did when he was a nobody at his heaviest. That can't be good for your emotional state at all.

Hmm good point good point. But consider this. If they didn't post on social media about it, how could we ridicule them? We all do it, whether we admit it or not

I always took it as a sort of accountability thing. like, I'm gonna post my pics on social media so i feel obligated to stay skinny. i guess it can backfire though

Jealous that you can't she'd your blubber, zhcyiD9?

Actually the opposite, starting to lose weight is kind of what made me feel this way. I'm seriously considering deleting my facebook and creating a new one whenever I get down to a weight that I will be more comfortable posting pictures of. I just can't understand why anyone would want a "before" picture because all it is is a reminder of how bad things got for you.

You should delete your Reddit account too

but then who would /r/drama get to shit on all day?

Someone more interesting

good luck finding someone like that

That's like saying "good luck finding water in the ocean"

you're right because you wouldn't since the ocean is water and it's not like water will contain more water

omg

Actually the parts of the ocean that no longer touch water on all sides, like the sea floor and the air, would be like the crust of the ocean, and all the rest of the water would be inside that crust.

Bruh have some self respect. I don't want to see your retarded corpse twitching after you just got crushed by a galaxy brain

Masterlogic'd

galaxy brain lawlz

Me

I just can't understand why anyone would want a "before" picture

zhcyiD9 is forever though

hey man i lost 100lbs and i actually kinda regretted taking a before pic to feel good about. although i would have kept it private and not shared it to the goddamn world. if you're doing this you should take an underwear pic and just keep it for yourself.

also make sure the raccoon gets in the pic, and post it here too.

Nah man, you get it wrong. It's a reminder of where you come from, and the journey you undertook. Kill the beast, stuff it and display it in your living room. Take pride in it.

Post nudes, or STFU.

no

All memes aside, I'm rooting for you buddy. We're all going to make it.

I only care about girls who do it. Especially when they look like this, this, and especially if they look like this 😍😍😍😍.

Thats the choice of the masses. My choice is revolutionary

You mean incorrect. WLM is the round earth of urls

It's wrong

Weight goes up ego goes down. Social media validation soon follows.

Rinse and repeat with an eating disorder sprinkled in.

Based.

I'll post my weight if you post yours.

216, shooting to be under 200 by my birthday in June which I think is a feasible goal

What units is this.

pounds

Well you are not moon man then.

tonnes

Dude, lawlz, just eat less if you want to lose weight.

Here's my super duper weight loss regiment: eat less. You don't need to get your ass up and exercise or any gym nonsense. Especially don't need any bro shakes or apps.

I weigh 116 and eat what I want when I want because I skip eating everything but a snack 2 days a week.

no yeah I understand all that, I am losing weight and if I meet that goal then I'll have lost 50 pounds in a year which I don't think is bad at all. I think I'm lighter than I was in high school except maybe my freshman year.

The truth is I don't have a food addiction or anything like that, it's just extremely easy to consume a lot of calories so I had to figure out what I could eat within a certain calorie range. It really isn't that difficult, you just have to learn how to count calories and avoid certain kinds of food.

I disagree with what you said about exercising though. I'm doing Orangetheory fitness 4 times per week and it definitely helps a lot.

Have you considered taking steroids and ogremaxxing?

you were 250 at 5'7"?

yeah

poke fun if you want, I don't plan on that being the case again

the biggest loser

Good luck! 👏

I weigh 116 and eat what I want when I want because I skip eating everything but a snack 2 days a week.

Pretty sure lawz's autism medication helps him burn through the calories like no one's business too.

u can't medicate autism you silly goober

https://www.webmd.com/brain/autism/understanding-autism-treatment#2

But some medicines can help with related symptoms like depression, seizures, insomnia, and trouble focusing.

We can only try to alleviate your worst symptoms, sure.

216

Holy fuck

When's your birthday?

June 12th

I will say that living on my own makes it drastically easier to be healthier because I'm completely in control of my own nutrition and exercise. I'm not gonna say some sob story about why I got big, I just didn't know much about nutrition growing up and wasn't active and now it has to be corrected.

Unironically based.

Good luck mate

216? Man get some weight on you.

Bring back fatpeoplehate when

lmao fatass

thanks

Lmao I've never seen the full res but it's exactly what I hoped it would be

Irony

bruh I'm at 5% body fat

Lol, cope harder, fatty

At least those people have made progress to improve their lives. You, on the other hand, seem to love publicly showing how much worse your life is becoming

that's what I'm saying though, losing weight is important but posting about it online can cause more harm than good versus if you just did it privately.

Also, stickyposting objectively improves anyone's life

Love your stuff Lawlz.

Lawlz aren’t you yourself overweight? Post body pics so we can bully you into starving yourself.

Yes, but this was more about the negativity of social media lol, drama users just can't read

Oh you don’t have to worry I didn’t read it at all

The ultimate weight loss journey is Amberlynn Reid she's lost over -300 lbs! What an inspiration 😍😍

imagine sitting there writing out this essay and then thinking to yourself, "Hmm, my brain output here surely will not generate enough interest on its own. Certainly then I must sticky it in order to ensure that every last user of the subreddit sees it!"

as it turns out, even on the ultra ironic hellscape of /r/drama, reddit mods are still reddit mods

Do you know who you are talking to

a massive loser

Not true, you’re talking to a Reddit moderator, the exact opposite of what you just said

haha the funniest thing you could do to get back at me would make me a mod too lol that would show me how much of a loser i am haha

me too thanks

It can work as a control mechanism. "I'm committed to this channel, people are watching me, I have to stick to it now."

yes, posting vlogs to a forum of internet losers

Do you have an "after" pic yet?

Don’t care about your post, not fecking reading it. I’m buying you a girlfriend just for a me break.

Just lose weight mang, no need to sticky ur own post

Posting your weight gain journey.

How into yourself do you need to be to think everyone needs more of your body in the world? Everyone has to deal with you. No choice in noticing you. Not just by size but half these people can’t even properly wipe their own asses. They walk around with a smear of shit they can’t reach that gets rubbed into their sheet sized underwear so every step they take more fecal matter is spread through the air as they lumber too and from the fridge.

Block the sunlight so much you make office plants wither and die while in your presence.

Takes a certain level of “fuck everyone else cause I have no self control”.

Posting about your weight gain?

My 600 pound life is my crack.

I dunno, maybe using your mod powers to sticky every showerthought you have?

Amberlynn is truly the cow of all lolcows

almost any idea that involves social media is bad/narcissistic.

I guess for some people the additional pressure to lose weight can be motivating.

Are there any summaries of those weight-loss journey channels backfiring? Could be funny.

Amber Lynn and Danny_getsfit are the best examples I know of

dude in terms of social media narcissism this doesn’t even rank

The program that really helped me to lose weight is:
