Besides /r/Drama, what are the most positive, helpful, normal subs on Reddit?

42  2019-03-19 by Can_The_SRDine

I come here because it's actually, no bull, one of the most normal subs on this hellsite. But sometimes, instead of sniping at other people's stupidity, I want to use Reddit to have wholesome, self-improving conversations. That means I don't want to associate with TRPers who are one rejection away from migrating to /r/Braincels, or /r/MensLib turbocucks, or "fapstronauts" who are gonna try and tell me about how Israel controls the global porn industry, or HAES SRDines, or Room Daddy's cultists, any other such riffraff.

/r/stopdrinking is an example of a good sub (I'm not an alcoholic, but that sub gave some prime motivation when I was doing no-booze February). Any others?

I hope that this is the end. r/Drama has a unique way of bringing out the worst in people. It really does, I think. The dynamic here is just so fucking toxic and it turns people into the worst possible people they can be.

Drama is an addiction. It should be classified as something more like heroine or meth than a game.

The legacy of Drama has been written large in blood, quite literally. Several Drama posters have committed mayocide, and this place enabled their downward spirals. u/DarqWolff's insanity was made far worse by this place. I've come to the conclusion that the internet, as a social platform, was a mistake.

It radicalizes people by isolating them with other people just like them and so they spiral into the worst versions of themselves. Drama made me a worse person, and it's made most of you worse people. It's been the breeding ground of pedophile groomers, alt-right killers, and suicidal narcissists. This place is a total fucking shithole and I spent three years of my life that I'll never get back immersed in it. It was a total waste and I'm going to regret this period of my life for the rest of my existence as will most of you.

Even the most moral people have been made worse for being here. I think that the fundamental issue with Drama is that due to the way reputations work, betrayal, secret cabals, two-faced bs, and bad faith negotiation isn't just prioritized, it's the only effective way to operate. Being a huge piece of shit to everybody around you and tearing them down like crabs in a bucket isn't just a viable strategy, it's actually the only viable strategy once Drama reached a certain size. It's all just a bunch of assholes circlejerking over how bad all the other assholes are, because it's impossible to do anything else short of outright genociding anybody who poses any sort of threat to Drama's security and dominance.

Fuck you, asshole.

I think this sub might be all that's left my dude

Was Reddit in older days more like /r/Drama. I’ve been lurker for soem time but only joined recently. It pains me to look at bad UIs. I only began lurking when I found out there are unofficial apps for Reddit.

Anyway, I remember /r/SubredditDrama being less tightly wounded. Makes me wonder if other subreddits were also more “take it easy, breezy!”

Was Reddit in older days more like /r/Drama?

Not even close. It was initially inhabited by new atheist libertarian STEMlord types who took ~the vision~ of reddit really seriously, treated it like a social movement, unironically narwhal baconed, and got into the driest slapfights imaginable.

I really think redditors need to get laid more.

sounds gay tbh

I want to respond to this by sexually harassing you but I don't actually know how to do that off the top of my head and I'm not gonna watch youtube how-to videos to learn. So just imagine that I did.

Be carful or I’ll step on your balls!!

Oh no, that would terrible! 😮 ... 😏

😒😒

who took ~the vision~ of reddit really seriously, treated it like a social movement

Back in those dark times when we didn't yet have blockchain to inspire us.

narwhal baconed

omg I remember that degeneracy

Was Reddit in older days more like /r/Drama?

/r/Drama wasn't even like current /r/Drama in the older days.

Please elaborate.

no

Edit: well maybe I'll elaborate later. don't feel like writing seriously rn.

🙄

My first comment on reddit was about trannies. I had -1 karma. My last comment about trannies I was downvoted into double digits. Reddit had an ideological shift somewhere within the last 5 years and shit swings in the entirely wrong direction over here now. r/drama actually has sensible discussion most of the time and people aren't banned for wrongthink.

Then we need to start having constructive discussions here.

I agree. You start.

Eh, it's mostly shitposting but good threads have some actually constructive conversation. Honestly I've been married 7 years and I would take the autists advice on relationships over about the rest of this shitty website

Fuck off retard

Some hobby subs are pretty good - r/knifeclub, r/headphones, r/MechanicalKeyboards, r/guns, even smaller ones like r/mechanicalpencils and r/flashlights. If you’re into something specific like brutalism or vaporwave there’re subreddits for that. There’re a few good non biased political subreddits out there too. The ask___ subs tend to be strictly moderated, so a lot of interesting, well moderated stuff gets posted there. Oh, you should also check out r/privacy, r/ChangeMyView, r/TrueReddit, and r/TrueAskReddit.

Which of those words discribe this place?

Imagine falling for the no drinking meme. Next you'll be all about /r/childfree

Childfree is degenerate

I'm not an alcoholic, but that sub gave some prime motivation when I was doing no-booze February

Why would you need a motivation NOT to drink unless you're an alcoholic?

niche hobby subs are the only thing that keeps me around anymore. I'm into cars, music, and the outdoors, and i can usually find quality discussion without that reddit soy touch. can personally plug r/cherokeexj, r/fiestast, r/backpacking, r/vandwellers, r/vagabond, r/ultralight, and any number of band ot genre specific subreddit depending on what you listen to. for more general discussion, 4chan is still king

I honestly think that tomorrow, you should chose to not have a coffee. Seriously.

Coffee doesn’t affect me

r/malegrooming r/woodworking r/skookum r/redditforgrownups

/r/familyman, dedicated to the funny fox tv show Family Man. Check it out!

The weebshit subreddits are good if you're like me and spend an unhealthy amount of time browsing photos of waifus.

The true way to assert dominance.
