I'm not even sure what your point is. Yeah I'd rather sleep with a dakimakura of my waifu Renge-chan than with some random 3D slut but that doesn't mean I'm desperate, it's the opposite, it implies that I have standards.
I hate myself for caring about ring shit but the entire hobbit series was a fucking disgrace to the Lord of the Rings franchise. They made it into some whimsical adventure instead of the gripping story LotR told.
You should see the behind the scene docs on making the last hobbit film. You can see Peter Jacksons body and soul be drained in real time as he has to come in and try to save the dumpster fire he was given since the last guy said fuck it.
The Hobbit kind of is meant to be whimsical, LoTR was a drastic tonal shift.
That being said the movies still sucked. LoTR was a case study for how to translate books into a movies, and it was done with a story no one thought could be made into a good movie at all. The Hobbit's problem is they tried to make the shortest book of the four into three separate movies, and it ran into the opposite issue you normally see, where instead of trying to condense all this material, they're stretching shit out.
And adding in random bits and pieces from the other books to pad it out. I got most of the references, and, except for Radagast the Brown, hated most of them. You can actually hear Peter Jackson apologizes on the DVD.
Hopefully amazon does their LotR show right. If what they say is true and it is the most expensive show ever produced, that tells me they’re going for a gritty story instead of what the hobbit was.
Im calling it now, WoT on amazon is gonna be better, Although the setting and supposed timeline for TLotR seems like the right move. At least they're not rehashing the movies
We live in a world where r/etards like this actually think that a billion dollar company would actually stay true to the books and not water everything down to be more inclusive in order to pander to the lowest common soy denominator.
They're obviously going to have to change shit, im ok with that. Characters and story lines will be axed but they can keep the meat of the story, including the final battle which dwarfs anything in GoT, and still make those changes. WoT already has a strong feminist core so a lot of the inclusivity is already there and I'd be cool with the TV writers changing the way Jordan wrote women because he wasn't really good at it. The fact that his wife is creative producer and the production company she picked long ago is still attached bodes well for the show. Add that to the fact that Brandon Sanderson has been involved since the beginning and I think there's a good chance the show will be good and reflect the books well, as well as a 7+ season show can reflect a 14 book series.
It's set in a world where women are the only ones aloud to use magic, where men who use magic are hunted down and basically murdered. The female Aiel are equal to if not stronger than the men and the women also run that society. The SeanChan is ruled over by a woman. Jordan's take on feminism may be outdated compared to today's standards but if they want to go that route they wont have to change much. Not only that but polyamory is also already part of the series and lesbian relationships ate alluded to as well
You do know what sub you're on right? Pretty much everyone here prides themselves on having never watched/read anything relating to nerd culture, and Tolkein is the epitome of that.
At least I still have the most in depth fantasy world ever created, Old school RuneScape produced by Jagex(tm) play for free right now at oldschoolrunescape.com or upgrade to members and enjoy over 200+ quests and endless adventure opportunities!
when they compare tolkien to grr they have the conceit of "oh its a different era and different style" for any aspect where lotr might edge them out as the clearly superior example of literature. and most grr fans are intellectually insecure enough that they assume no one else can understand or enjoy tolkien, just like they cant.
but wot, its just exactly what grr did except better, and they're similarly insecure about it but can't handwave it with how its boring old white man nonsense

I grew up on Tolkien and really hoped the Hobbit wouldn’t be a shameless cash grab.
They made Gandalf break down into tears on set because of the green screen shit.

You didnt realize that when they said they were going to make a 200-page children's book into a trilogy.

I too look forward to the day when gimli will be potrayed on screen by an actual bearded trans ghoul clapping back at legolas every chance it gets.
Imagine thinking that unironically.

One can only hope. But it’s Amazon so they might just blow the money on hookers, blow, and a financial advisor for WSB

But...the Hobbit book is a whimsical adventure.

The Hobbit movies were so fucking terrible. I never fall asleep in movies but I did during the 3rd hobbit movie lmao.
1 error404brain 2019-05-13
The hobbit, the book, didn't exactly fit the other books, tbf. It was distinctly one made for children.
But what do I know, my prefered tolkien shit is "letter from father christmas".
1 2Manadeal2btw 2019-05-13
Dragon-shit vs hobbit-shit. The worlds greatest crossover.
1 Tzar-Romulus 2019-05-13
*throneshit vs ringshit. At least Tolkien knows how to finish a book.
1 BIknkbtKitNwniS 2019-05-13
But...the hobbit also ha a dragon.
Has anyone in this fucking thread even read The Hobbit?

I think we pretend that we are disdainful of everything but guarantee half this sub is capeshitters.

MFW when the LoTR movies omitted the Burning of The Shire entirely, but that is the analogous point we are at in Game of Thrones now.
