I could buy it right then and there for $23000. He said if I could come up with the cash, yes. I had been procrastinating setting up a 529 so I had $12000 in savings that my wife's parents had given us, I maxed out my credit card to Venmo and my mom bought down a check for $4000 and I fucking drove away in my old car. It was like a dream come true. Like a literal dream come true. *It needs a lot of work I can't afford right now but it's mine. *
Sounds like a wonderful waste of 23000 when you have a new child.
If this isn't a troll (not much to point in that direction except how utterly stupid he is) he is the most gullible person on the planet
>Someone is definitely coming RIGHT NOW to buy a beat up truck for $21k and if you can give me $2k more RIGHT NOW I'll tell him to fuck off! Yeah, he's coming in like 30 minutes dude! What about your daughters college fund? Your credit cards? Oh, you say your in laws gave you $12k to use for childcare expenses? Throw that in too! And your mom can come down with 4 grand? Even better!
Holy shit I wonder how he browses the internet without falling for a dropshipping scheme.
Top that off. Just looking at the buy, it was a stupid financial decision.
He used $12k that didn’t belong to him. Maxed out his credit cards on Venmo ( $7K debt ) and borrowed $4k from his mother. Cherry on the top was that this guy said he didn’t not have the funds to fix it. So he’ll have a old junk car sitting in his driveway while he put his family $11k in the hole WITH A FUCKING 6 MONTH OLD TO CARE FOR!
Yeah something tells me if he just pokerfaced it instead of letting the salesman immediately know how much sentimental value the truck has to him he wouldn’t nearly pay that much. I bet he didn’t even read Art of the Deal.
If it were a troll, they would have tried to make him more sympathetic. That, combined with the fact that this dude is talking about motives more than actions (classic hallmark of guilt), this one might actually be real.
He shouldn’t have done what he did and I am in no way justifying his actions. He seems wildly irresponsible and his wife should be thinking carefully about her commitment to such a person.
That said, he probably didn’t overpay by as much as you think. The old Broncos have gotten stupidly expensive. It’s not hard to imagine someone paying $21k for an original V8 Bronco that runs and drives.
They’re quickly increasing in value as there is much more demand than supply. Even newer Broncos are going up in value though not as much or as quickly as the early ones. Vintage trucks from the same era are getting stupidly expensive too.
If at some point SUVs and trucks become undesirable then the vintage prices will drop.
Any classic car is going to be a shitbox compared to a brand new modern car. People like what they like and when it comes to classic cars there is by definition going to be a limited supply. If demand is higher than supply then prices go up. People who buy wisely can own & drive interesting cars without losing any money, sometimes even making money.
Are you serious? Have you ever read any financial book? Gold is considered among the safest investments you can make:
1.- Buy gold when the economy is good/at peak and everyone is buying shares in the stock market or start-ups. That's when you buy gold at a cheap price.
2.- when the economy is bad and the stock market indicators are dropping (S&P, DowJones) everyone will freak out, selling their shares and buying gold. That's when the gold price will go up, and that's when you sell your gold and make a huge profit.
I'm just saying it's still something that is a luxury to be able to afford. Or I'm ust poor. A bronco is a solid investment though. Obviously not with someone else's money but it's a car that is an exception to the "cars are not an investment" rule. Again though, it should not be acquired by pilfering your kids college fund.
Admins rolled out a really stupid feature where subs can have basically their own "community rewards". From what I can gather its basically Reddit Gold that just looks slightly different and I think is slightly more expeneive too
So does it have the same benefits as Reddit gold? Like, is this guy being rewarded for being an asshole with people giving him the custom gold toilet icon and stuff?
How does that work, with the sub getting 20%? Like what does it mean for "the sub" to get it, does it go to the mods so they can use it for awards in the sub?
lets say u spend 1000 coins on a community award.
just like gold u spend 500 coins for like 3 bucks and 100 coins goes to its reciever. the remaining 400 coins "dissapear".
with community awards 80% of the coins "disappear" and the remaining 20% (200 coins here) goes to the mods. so when u give a comm award to a person he gets nothing whereas the mods get the coins (which they will use to award "quality content")
I believe so, but I can't be fucked to figure it out for myself. I'd assume that the reciever is given at least a few "coins" like with Gold, because otherwise the jacked-up price would not be remotely warranted.
I didn't know either, and I spent a long time subbed to AITA. They're not used very frequently, and I normally browsed by New so I didn't stumble into a circle jerk.
Okay, but for real, what do they mean? I have only ever heard of Gold Silver and platimum. Although I have no idea whats the difference between the three.
I'm really not a troll, I don't know where people get this and the bait idea
Well, my1972pony, it may or may not be because I, personally, and many others, don't know of many people in real life who would put their family in financial jeopardy and steal money from loved ones over a car, even if it had the most sentimental value possible.
Don't take that to mean that we think you're an asshole, I mean you are, if the post is true, but creating a post of this caliber, troll or not, is simply remarkable and I applaud you sir. Your kind of posts keep me from reflecting on my own dire life problems every night
And I am sorely disappointed that we cannot ping, and I hope this finds him well.
For real this isn’t really even a interesting one, just a post where everyone thinks he’s the asshole and there’s no demented slap fights in the comments :/
Even if it did that top heavy gas guzzling beater is worthless until restored and it's not gonna be worth the cost at all when it comes to sell or trade even when dealing with collectors. The new Bronco is out anyways and it's far better than the old overrated redneck glory hole on wheels that is the original series. This guy, if he really isn't a troll, is not an utter piece of shit but also a complete fucking retard. Sentimental value isn't worth shit when you have a newborn and a wife to care for. I hope this dipshit gets it running and rolls it off a cliff so his wife and child can be free from a lifetime of more selfishly bad decisions
Oh yeah, and the thread got y'alled after the OP got banned because AITAnnies are fags who want to keep him from making more juicy drama to get downvoted.
When I was a kid my parents were broke as fuck. Ma spent over a grand fixing up our wagon after it broke down, which was money we didn't have. Shortly afterwards Dad secretly sold it for $20 and with the cash bought a pack of smokes and a pizza. He literally traded our car for a pizza lmao. He probably would have done something this stupid too if he had access to the funds. People this senseless shouldn't be allowed to procreate. Yes, they're both assholes.
I can’t and will not defend what you did. You should have told your wife about that car. You should have been more frugal and responsible with your money. That being said. FUUCK YEAH bro! That 72 Bronco is a hot ass truck! That’s something that you keep and hand down and when your brat decides to drive it around you’re gonna have second thoughts. There is something to be said about your first car. You need to tie your balls to your inner thigh, man up and work your ass off to make up for it. Fuck your in laws unless they are paying your bills. Your mom is some one you need to listen to cause she literally owns your ass. EDIT: just read in the comments that the money came from your in laws. You fucked yo. I take it all back. You are definitely the asshole. But keep the car anyway.YTA
I especially like the edit: "I’ll figure out how to cross that bridge when I get there but my wife was so relieved that I “had come to your senses” I don’t want to disappoint her. It’s going to take all my lying skills to pull this one off over the next few years."

IKR. Cars are a depreciating asset.

Now, if you said 23K in shares or Gold. Well, that's a different story.
1 uniqueguy263 2019-07-27
Classic cars are not.
1 2Manadeal2btw 2019-07-27
That's a luxury good.
1 mrbulldops428 2019-07-27
Gold seems like a bit of a luxury.
1 2Manadeal2btw 2019-07-27
The difference is that gold is a lot easier to store and probably appreciates more than a luxury car.

Also, I don't think its a good because you can't "consume" gold.
1 LightUmbra 2019-07-27
I can't?

1 DeseretRain 2019-07-27
How does that work, with the sub getting 20%? Like what does it mean for "the sub" to get it, does it go to the mods so they can use it for awards in the sub?

not sure the details. the mods give out the awards I think.
1 uniqueguy263 2019-07-27
20% in dollars or creddits?
