Benzos are no fucking joke. I read somewhere that one of the main reasons to legalize MJ is to move many people off benzos and onto MJ because those class of drugs are so incredibly detrimental to your health that literally anything is better than them.
I work in a mental health clinic attached to a substance use outpatient. Benzos are shit garbage. We are super careful about prescribing them. They interact horribly with just about everything (incl and especially alcohol), and create chemical dependency that leads to punishing withdrawal. Kermit isn't my favorite but I feel for him here and am glad he's getting help.
I had a doctor prescribe me lorazepam for an insomnia issue I was having recently. Fuuuuuck that shit. I threw it all away and figured out how to my issue with a change in diet and some melatonin on select days.
I once took a Xanax (with a prescription) for two consecutive days.
BIG mistake. It took me 6 months (!) to withdraw, and I only did so by drinking to cover the anxiety caused by withdrawal (drinking and Xanax are a very bad combination which I had to get just right).
