I hate this shit. Are you telling me that Saving Mr. Banks existed for any other reason than for Disney executives to all jerk themselves off over how great their founder supposedly was? And now he's playing Mr. Rogers just so Millenials can all curl up with their security blankets and be spoonfed ideas that they already believe about Mr. Rogers. We get it, he was a good guy, it's not necessary to keep telling me over and over.
This is unironically making me lose respect for Tom Hanks because I feel like it feeds his ego too. He likes people thinking of him as some kind of infallible grandpa and playing celebrities that they already like just keeps that going. It's ridiculous. I really would not be surprised if he eventually plays himself in a movie with the exact same intention.

It's not just about Mr. Rogers. There was also that movie Yesterday which existed so fans of the Beatles could stroke themselves over how great the Beatles were and how a world without them would literally be a dystopia.
One person I would like to see a movie on is Steve from Blues Clues because he's talked pretty candidly about what it was like being a normal wannabe actor and inadvertently falling into this role where children idolize you all over the world.

It's hard to make a non-saccharine Mr. Rogers film, because that was genuinely his personality.
That's kind of why he's even notable, because his private persona was so similar to his on-screen persona. People often assume there has to be some dirt somewhere, but no, he was just that improbably nice. Human, of course, but improbably nice.
