I busted a guy in my office for committing credit card fraud today

I work in sales and I've pretty consistently been one of the top reps here and then this guy who just started a few months ago randomly became #1 out of nowhere. He's been a huge braggart and everyone knows he's kind of a shady character but I'm the first one to actually find out he was doing shit that is illegal.

He's been selling our product to businesses that don't exist and the fucking idiot actually used the same credit card on two different ones that were completely unrelated to each other (one was in Texas and the other was in Oklahoma yet neither was part of a chain or anything like that) meaning that it HAD to have been his own or that he stole someone's. He even put his OWN phone number on file for one of the businesses claiming it was the phone number of an employee there. Like, you google the number and his name immediately pops up in the white pages.

He's been doing this because he figured out a way to use a certain promotion to rig our commission structure in a way where he could get paid bonuses even if the card got declined and the company made no money (or very little). It would almost be clever if it wasn't so stupid and didn't put multiple people's jobs on the line.

I can't believe I'm the first one to compile hard evidence on the guy. Other people noticed weird shit and they pointed me in the right direction but I was the only one autistic enough to actually peruse through every detail and notice where shit didn't add up even if it seemed normal on a surface level. Like, he claimed to have communicated with a business via email on the 14th of the month yet if you look at the account history, you'll find he didn't enter the email until the 20th. Shit like that.

I'll admit he did a pretty great job of covering all his bases and hiding his tracks but the problem with us all using the same cloud-based CRM is that EVERYTHING is tracked even if you think it isn't and eventually a little detail will fuck you over.

I notified my manager today and I'm curious where this will all lead. Anyone who has associated with this guy is a fucking idiot too because now they're going to be looked at with just as much scrutiny. Other people have been helping him artificially pump up his numbers so I can't help but wonder if they were involved too. I like his manager and I doubt he was involved but he's let this shit happen for MONTHS and not caught it. He liked having the top sales guy on his team so he plugged his ears to shit that very well might cost him his job because his name is also on every single contract for each of these fraudulent sales. Several people on his team have suspiciously high numbers so this honestly might lead to a bloodbath.

So yeah. This should be a pretty interesting week.

My monetary compensation is that it doesn't grow into an even bigger legal issue where the office gets shut down and I lose my job because of one guy committing fraud. But also he's been doing crooked shit with the leads too so him being gone will end up getting me more money for sure.

Yeah, every office I've ever worked at always has a couple of people that clearly had a really rough upbringing, and I don't just mean "are black" by that. Actually kinda hood, sometimes white even, etc.

They're usually pretty nice and have good perspective on all the menial shit that constitutes office drama, probably because they realize that they escaped having actual problems. Wouldn't fuck with them generally, though.
