But also, besides /r/politicalcompassmemes, there is no other biggish sub that hasn't been turned into either a one-sided circlejerk (the hated SRDines, r/neoliberal, r/stupidpol, the Loli Defense Force, any of the Daddysphere subs), or else a nonstop humorless Battle Royale full of first-year polisci/philosophy/econ majors who think they're geniuses (r/capitalismvssocialism, r/debatecommunism, r/badphilosophy, etc.). This and PCM are the only places where most people can appreciate a joke based on its merits, not on whether it helps or hurts their side.

I think there's a lesson to be learned from this: if you're offensively hostile to newcomers, you'll scare away anyone whose identity is so wrapped up in his political tribe that he can't think rationally when challenged. The ones with thick skins will hang around, and those ar the immigrants we want. So keep up the good work, boys.
