I have to walk away from this thread. It’s making me too sad 😢 you could have a “perfectly typical” baby that later develops autism- would you toss them aside then?
I would send them to a proper facility if it became a huge problem
If autism could be detected so early in the womb then I'm sure the termination rates would look pretty similar. Most people don't want to make the coin flip between "my child has learning and social difficulties but gets by with some extra help" and "I have to wake up every night at 3am to change the diaper of a 250 pound grown man while he screams and punches holes in the walls"
Tfw you could have been born and end up being a subject of a feel-good viral video on LinkedIn, but instead Sandra Bullock uses your aborted body as a cosmetic product.
These are the inconsistencies of reddit that generally confuse me. If abortion is the greatest thing since sliced bread, why in the hell is this problematic.
Because redditors equate it to eugenics which is a heckin fascism. They fail to see that having a special needs child is even more hard work than a normal kid and depending on the severity they need to spend the rest of their life in care.
True, I mean is this not the ultimate example of the white privilege shit they are always harping on about?Being able to be confident in having the fiscal and social infrastructure to take on great cost for an elective moral type situation. Not trying to get too autistic on zwie but this type of shit has me smh
That's the thing imo. White privilege is usually only used to exemplify the privileges rightoids have. They never talk about how all the white BLM protesters can probably walk home to a warm house in a safe neighbourhood after tossing bricks at cops while black people watch their neightbourhood burn down.
You'll always see them defend people tweeting "fuck cops fuck billionaires" from the latest iphone in a rich white neighbourhood. Because while you CAN criticise a society and participate in it, they're DIRECTLY FUNDING the things that they seethe over
Downers are prime abortion material, especially when it's so easily detectable in eutero.
Iceland started giving out mandatory tests for pregnant women a few years ago and the problem has nearly disappeared. It's pretty easy to do diseases like muscular dystrophy as well, yet Am*ricans spend millions of dollars per year attempting to find a cure when there's already one readily available. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/down-syndrome-iceland/
I think the greatest sin in the world is bringing children into the world, that have disease from their parents, that have no chance in the world to be a human being practically
Amazing talk. She used the phrase 'All Lives Matter' in the context not to denigrate the BLM movement, but to highlight the an'ti-disability racism in America. Those who have developmental, intellectual, cognitive and physical disabilities are often hidden away from society in residential homes, out of classrooms and the workplaces.
What a beautiful talk. Thank you so much for sharing your talents with the world. My husband and I have been fighting for over 4 years to adopt a little girl with Down syndrome from Russia. We met her in July 2012 but then Russia banned all Americans from adopting in December 2012, leaving the little girl we love to grow up in an institution for the rest of her life. The only upside to all of this is I have been in contact with a lovely organization Downside Up. They work in Eastern Europe to educate people about Down syndrome and to give the parents the resources they need to keep their children instead of giving them to institutions. Russia seems to be about 40 years behind the US. But more of their families are beginning to see that Down syndrome is not what the doctors are telling them. I still pray that one day my little girl will have a family to call her own. If anyone would be willing to sign our petition asking the two Presidents to come together for the good of the children left behind because of the ban I would be so grateful. Because #alllivesmatter. Even those in other countries. http://chn.ge/1oRGU03
I fucking love youtube comments, pure schizo energy.😍
It's amazing how r*dditors always manage to hypocrites in the worst ways possible. Abortion is good ackshually, wait you're aborting your down syndrome baby? YIKES sweaty let's unpack why this is problematic.
What the fuck is that thread? I hope those are all pro-lifers that somehow crawled onto reddit instead of hypocrite pro-choicers being brain damaged.
Also the argument about autism is stupid, high functioning autism is way way way more easy to live with than fucking down syndrome. Plus if there were a way to detect autism in the womb I'm pretty sure we'd see a lot of terminations.
Your last line is why autists hate the Autism Speaks charity. The charity funds research into developing such a test.
Anyway, while I do think it's all pro-lifers in that thread, there are situations where pro-choicers get their panties in a bunch over abortions. One is sex-selective abortions. Another is the suggestion of a pre-natal test for homosexuality.
Abortion is a choice and heckin valid! Abortion is only problematic if there is an objective good reason for an abortion.
"I am 22 and want to party and have fun. A kid does not fit in." --> VALID
"This kid has a disability so serve that it can never live without assistance and it needs constant care for their entire life and will never be a productive member of society." --> HOW DARE YOU TO ABORT!
I could not agree even a tiny little bit more. But down-syndrome is not a result of flawed genes. In most cases, the parents were not downies themself.
You are not going to receive the same reaction as you did from r/parenting. Terminating a wanted pregnancy is an extremely sad thing for anyone involved, regardless of being pro life/choice.
I actually don't care one way or the other, but I think it is kinda selfish of all the downies to complain that this hurt their feelings while I am quite sure this is not a happy situation for the couple either.
Anywhere else on r*ddit, you would find rslurs going "yesss queen" over a f*id deciding to abort their fetus. Why are downies against it? Where is AHS when you need them? Downies are a hate group!
It's the same reason we keep riding the euphemism treadmill for "r-slur." They don't like being reminded that what they have is disability and is not desirable in any way.

Aborting a healthy child for the 12th time because you don’t wanna stop fucking strangers “has sweaty, just a clump of cells”💅💅
Aborting a severely disabled child because the emotional strain and resources are too much to handle “yikes, oof, not okay”
4 Supreme-Shitposter 2020-09-29
Im not seeing the issue. Taking care of r slur kid is not easy. Just ask the Janitors here.

There's a series of TEDx talks about this. It's really weird:
I have one more chromosome than you. So what? - so you're getting aborted
Do we really want a world without Down syndrome? - yes.gif

Lol, burgers were literally selling Russian kids online to pedos & rehoming them on Facebook. The rslur kid is prolly better off there.

Anybody that does a TEDx talk defaults to having an extra chromosome.

Any rslur with a pulse can do one of these, as clearly evidenced in the video.

I'm just imagining a doctor looking at the ultrasound and being like "oh dat nigga gay"
But yeah in any situation the right to choose should trump everything if you actually believe in being pro-choice with any kind of integrity.
1 ballrot 2020-09-29
I think you're right and they're c*th
1 Suns0ut 2020-09-29
Maybe I'm just a psychopath but I can't see why parents would want to keep a child with a severe disability.
3 silentdeadly5 2020-09-29
Why don’t you ask your parents?
