My mom said I would burn in heck if I don't accept Jesus as my savior

I have a right to be mad about her saying that to me right?

I was in the car with her( I forgot what brought it up), and she said he will come down and save us one day. She knows I have never chose to believe in it ( I have stayed respectful to her and the rest of my family), despite sending me to a Cristian private school my entire life. I rolled my eyes after she said that, and she responded with “fine if you choose not to Acept him as your lord and savior then you will just burn in heck.

The thing that hurts the most is that she honestly doesn't see anything wrong with that. I rightfully got mad and asked her if she just told me to burn in heck? And she goes on defense and says I'm twisting her words.

There is nothing to twist, she told me either I choose to not believe or I will burn in heck/ that plain and simple

She follows up with saying if I get so offended by it that must mean I do believe…..no I get offended because my own mom just told me to burn in heck

I just need an opinion on how to evaluate this

Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. - Acts 2:38

Your mom is showing how bad religion has manipulated people. She is willing to turn her back on her child because other people told her “it's the right way”. So sad.

imagine caring about your son's salvation

I can't stand it when people do that! I am a Christian and I do believe in God/Jesus. However, I understand that God doesn't want us to love Him solely because we're afraid of going to heck. He wants it to be our choice and He doesn't want that choice to be forced. He doesn't want to be shoved down anyone's throats. It's one thing to teach someone about God, but to try to force them to believe will just continue to push them further away from him or have them believing out of fear and that's not a good thing.

this is how reddit "christians" think

Except there isn't a heck. So, it's not too messed up tbh. Churches are strange with their little storybooks.

i am euphoric.

Your mom is in a cult.

There is no hate like christian 'love'. They insist that everyone must secretly believe what they believe because they just can't fathom that anyone doesn't. They don't understand how people can be good people without the fear of burning in hellfire if they don't - because being kept on a leash with threats is the only thing stopping them from being WORSE people, and they think that they must be wonderful and great and perfect so if THEY want to do those bad things, everyone else must, right? They don't understand that most of us genuinely don't want to hurt others and do bad things, and we don't need the threat of being burned forever to be decent people.

Just ignore her and plan for when you can get out and go LC with her. Once you're out, anytime she starts bringing up religion? Hang up, get in your car and go home, leave. Make it clear that you won't tolerate her crap.

She's been brainwashed and there's not much you can do about that. All you can do is alter how you personally interact with her - which, in the case of cultists, usually means interacting with them less or not at all.

anyone with different beliefs than me is brainwashed

Stop watching porn – Pope :nono:

Sexual pleasure "is a gift from God" which is being "undermined by pornography," Pope Francis told an audience at the Vatican on Wednesday. The pontiff's address came after it emerged that his head of doctrine penned a sexually explicit book in the 1990s.

"Winning the battle against lust, against the 'objectification' of the other, can be a lifelong endeavor," Pope Francis declared, before denouncing pornography as a manifestation of "the demon of lust."

The search for sexual pleasure outside of a loving relationship "can generate forms of addiction" and "turns into a chain that deprives human beings of freedom," the pontiff continued. He called on Catholics to reject "satisfaction without relationship" and practice "pure love in the giving of oneself to the other."

Nothing about Pope Francis' speech broke with the Catechism of the Catholic Church, which states that anyone involved in producing or watching porn commits a "grave offense." Pornography "offends against chastity because it perverts the conjugal act, the intimate giving of spouses to each other," the doctrinal church document explains.

The pontiff may have chosen to focus his speech on the topic in light of a recent controversy, in which his newly promoted chief of doctrine, Cardinal Victor Manuel Fernandez, was condemned by conservative Catholics for a book he wrote in 1998 on spirituality and sensuality.

Now out of print, the book featured graphic descriptions of the female orgasm that conservatives argue should have been beyond the knowledge of a supposedly celibate priest, as the cardinal was at the time of its publication.

Fernandez touched on porn in the book, remarking that women could be just as "aroused by hardcore pornography" as men, according to the Catholic News Agency.

The pontiff has broken with Catholic tradition on several occasions in recent years, offering statements of support for LGBTQ activists in 2021 and 2022, and updating Church doctrine in December to allow priests to bless same-s*x couples in some circumstances. Cardinal Fernandez wrote the doctrinal text explaining this change.

Despite liberalizing some elements of Catholic doctrine, Pope Francis has continued to rail against pornography, even within the ranks of the clergy.

Erotica is a vice that has affected "so many people, so many lay people, so many lay women and also priests and nuns," he said in an address to seminarians in 2022. The pontiff called on priests to delete pornographic apps and websites from their phones, warning that "it is something that weakens the soul."

"The devil enters from there," he continued. "He weakens the priestly heart."

Pope Francis' Instagram page, which is managed by the Holy See's media team, made headlines in 2020 after 'liking' a racy photo of bikini model Natalia Garibotto. The papal office launched an internal investigation into the incident, the Catholic News Agency reported at the time.

Wise words from Paul the Apostle
None

Hi, so long story short my boyfriend and I have been together for 6 years now. When we first started dating he was pretty progressive and he even went to pride parades with me, said he was really disappointed after Roe v Wade was overturned, etc. But in the past 1.5 or so years he really started falling into the “traditional” beliefs, became a lot more Catholic, and socially conservative. We've had a lot of big disagreements in the last year, starting with the Barbie movie last summer…..he has made condescending comments about “woke leftists”, the “west is losing their morals”, etc. Then recently I saw on Instagram reels (I just happened to come across posts he's liked), that he's liked reels that were making fun of pronouns and then one about how couples with kids without a mom are “unnatural”. He also liked one about how modern feminism is destroying society. I am seriously appalled that he has these views and I'm so dissappointed. He doesn't voice it to me because he knows how upset and defensive I get, but now I know what he actually thinks. I just have a feeling he's listening to those podcasts about being “alpha males”, the need for women to have kids, importance of Christianity in society….etc. Anyway obviously it seems like the answer is pretty clear here, but is it possible for a person like this to be convinced otherwise? Could he drop these beliefs? It's just hard because he used to be a different person..and we've been together for so long, we live together, so much is tied up. But it seems like for the most part people who go down this route only go deeper in it. It's not too dramatic of a reason to break up with someone, right? Each time I've brought it up he's said I'm being too controlling about his views and we should agree to disagree. He says I'm being a “militant leftist who doesn't have room for other views”……I can't handle being with someone who has such disrespectful views and I'm just wondering what went wrong..and when…and also, I just hate what Instagram reels, TikTok, and these certain male influencers have done lately. It's bizarre to see so many guys turn right wing in the past year

!catholics !christians happy Third Sunday of Easter!

First Reading

Peter said to the people:

"The God of Abraham,

the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob,

the God of our fathers, has glorified his servant Jesus,

whom you handed over and denied in Pilate's presence

when he had decided to release him.

You denied the Holy and Righteous One

and asked that a murderer be released to you.

The author of life you put to death,

but God raised him from the dead; of this we are witnesses.

Now I know, brothers,

that you acted out of ignorance, just as your leaders did;

but God has thus brought to fulfillment

what he had announced beforehand

through the mouth of all the prophets,

that his Christ would suffer.

Repent, therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be wiped away."

-Acts 3:13-15, 17-19

Responsorial Psalm

R. (7a) Lord, let your face shine on us.

or:

R. Alleluia.

When I call, answer me, O my just God,

you who relieve me when I am in distress;

have pity on me, and hear my prayer!

R. Lord, let your face shine on us.

or:

R. Alleluia.

Know that the LORD does wonders for his faithful one;

the LORD will hear me when I call upon him.

R. Lord, let your face shine on us.

or:

R. Alleluia.

O LORD, let the light of your countenance shine upon us!

You put gladness into my heart.

R. Lord, let your face shine on us.

or:

R. Alleluia.

As soon as I lie down, I fall peacefully asleep,

for you alone, O LORD,

bring security to my dwelling.

R. Lord, let your face shine on us.

or:

R. Alleluia.

-Psalms 4:2, 4, 7-8, 9

Second Reading

My children, I am writing this to you

so that you may not commit sin.

But if anyone does sin, we have an Advocate with the Father,

Jesus Christ the righteous one.

He is expiation for our sins,

and not for our sins only but for those of the whole world.

The way we may be sure that we know him is to keep

his commandments.

Those who say, "I know him," but do not keep his commandments

are liars, and the truth is not in them.

But whoever keeps his word,

the love of God is truly perfected in him.

-1 John 2:1-5a

Alleluiah

R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Lord Jesus, open the Scriptures to us;

make our hearts burn while you speak to us.

R. Alleluia, alleluia.

-Luke 24:32

Gospel

The two disciples recounted what had taken place on the way,

and how Jesus was made known to them

in the breaking of bread.

While they were still speaking about this,

he stood in their midst and said to them,

"Peace be with you."

But they were startled and terrified

and thought that they were seeing a ghost.

Then he said to them, "Why are you troubled?

And why do questions arise in your hearts?

Look at my hands and my feet, that it is I myself.

Touch me and see, because a ghost does not have flesh and bones

as you can see I have."

And as he said this,

he showed them his hands and his feet.

While they were still incredulous for joy and were amazed,

he asked them, "Have you anything here to eat?"

They gave him a piece of baked fish;

he took it and ate it in front of them.

He said to them,

"These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you,

that everything written about me in the law of Moses

and in the prophets and psalms must be fulfilled."

Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures.

And he said to them,

"Thus it is written that the Christ would suffer

and rise from the dead on the third day

and that repentance, for the forgiveness of sins,

would be preached in his name

to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.

You are witnesses of these things."

-Luke 24:35-48

The last few lines of the second reading stuck out to me. While God is merciful, those who flaunt his laws blatantly while speaking of how much they love them must have some deal of cognitive dissonance going on.

!catholics !christians sorry this one is late, I had the classic Mass-to-work maneuver today.

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

First Reading

When Saul arrived in Jerusalem he tried to join the disciples,

but they were all afraid of him,

not believing that he was a disciple.

Then Barnabas took charge of him and brought him to the apostles,

and he reported to them how he had seen the Lord,

and that he had spoken to him,

and how in Damascus he had spoken out boldly in the name of Jesus.

He moved about freely with them in Jerusalem,

and spoke out boldly in the name of the Lord.

He also spoke and debated with the Hellenists,

but they tried to kill him.

And when the brothers learned of this,

they took him down to Caesarea

and sent him on his way to Tarsus.

The church throughout all Judea, Galilee, and Samaria was at peace.

It was being built up and walked in the fear of the Lord,

and with the consolation of the Holy Spirit it grew in numbers.

-Acts 9:26-31

Responsorial Psalm

R. (26a) I will praise you, Lord, in the assembly of your people.

or:

R. Alleluia.

I will fulfill my vows before those who fear the LORD.

The lowly shall eat their fill;

they who seek the LORD shall praise him:

"May your hearts live forever!"

R. I will praise you, Lord, in the assembly of your people.

or:

R. Alleluia.

All the ends of the earth

shall remember and turn to the LORD;

all the families of the nations

shall bow down before him.

R. I will praise you, Lord, in the assembly of your people.

or:

R. Alleluia.

To him alone shall bow down

all who sleep in the earth;

before him shall bend

all who go down into the dust.

R. I will praise you, Lord, in the assembly of your people.

or:

R. Alleluia.

And to him my soul shall live;

my descendants shall serve him.

Let the coming generation be told of the LORD

that they may proclaim to a people yet to be born

the justice he has shown.

R. I will praise you, Lord, in the assembly of your people.

or:

R. Alleluia.

Second Reading

Children, let us love not in word or speech

but in deed and truth.

Now this is how we shall know that we belong to the truth

and reassure our hearts before him

in whatever our hearts condemn,

for God is greater than our hearts and knows everything.

Beloved, if our hearts do not condemn us,

we have confidence in God

and receive from him whatever we ask,

because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him.

And his commandment is this:

we should believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ,

and love one another just as he commanded us.

Those who keep his commandments remain in him, and he in them,

and the way we know that he remains in us

is from the Spirit he gave us.

-1 John 3:18-24

Remain in me as I remain in you, says the Lord.

Whoever remains in me will bear much fruit.

John 15:4a, 5a

Gospel

Jesus said to his disciples:

"I am the true vine, and my Father is the vine grower.

He takes away every branch in me that does not bear fruit,

and every one that does he prunes so that it bears more fruit.

You are already pruned because of the word that I spoke to you.

Remain in me, as I remain in you.

Just as a branch cannot bear fruit on its own

unless it remains on the vine,

so neither can you unless you remain in me.

I am the vine, you are the branches.

Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit,

because without me you can do nothing.

Anyone who does not remain in me

will be thrown out like a branch and wither;

people will gather them and throw them into a fire

and they will be burned.

If you remain in me and my words remain in you,

ask for whatever you want and it will be done for you.

By this is my Father glorified,

that you bear much fruit and become my disciples."

Purposeful post.

Here is a story: In a shoreside village Trzęsacz (previously called Hoff) in what is today Poland, there was a XIV-th century Gothic church. Dedicated to Saint Nicholas, it replaced the earlier 1124 wooden church, and was quite an opulent structure for a village.

https://i.rdrama.net/images/16820818338543687.webp

Here is it’s interior. You can see it was fairly well equipped. With a triptych, choir stalls, and all.

https://i.rdrama.net/images/16820818337690275.webp

And the outside shot, with a view of the shore.

But, today the church is no more, and only a single wall remains. How did that happen?

Well, the first tragedy struck in 1534 with the Trzebiatów Sejm announcing evangelicalism as the official religion in the West Pomerania region, causing the church to fall into heathen hands. It is safe to assume this heretical action sealed its fate.

Until 1818 it had a bell tower, but the tower was attracting thunders so much it had to be demolished. We can only assume it was God showing his discontent with the path this temple has taken. Some may say He was taking His time since it was almost three centuries after the change in denomination, but it’s not like He was in a hurry, and so the ultimate destruction that came after was painfully slow.

And it was facilitated through, one of the least impressive at the moment, but impressive over time forces of nature. Erosion.

While the Gothic structure from the latter part of XIV-th century was build 2 km (9,94 Furlongs for those still using Imperial) away from sea, in the 1870 photo above you can see that the distance drastically shortened. 1874 was the year the church was closed, and then over the years sea consumed it brick by brick (well probably multiple bricks at a time), until 1994 when, after a major collapse of the last remaining wall, the municipality decided to try and save what was left. In 2001 a construction company (called Stabilator, quite fitting) created a seawall at the bottom, and in 2002 the wall was reinforced with15 m rods, and anchors. So what’s left of the single wall remains to this day.

Interestingly Prussians actually tried to save the church in the past, as far as 1750, but with seemingly no success.

https://i.rdrama.net/images/16820818339523864.webp

Church today.

As a sidenote, one local legends explaining the collapse says: A fishermen fishing in the sea nearby caught sea goddess Zielenica. Then local parish priest inprisoned her, and kept her captive until she died of sorrow. Following that the god Bałtyk, her father, tried to get her body back from the church cemetery by progressively eroding the ground.

It was obviously concocted by some locals, but for supposed Christians this legend is not very Christian at all.

Anyway that’s the story of the Trzęsacz Church.

You may be thinking, what is the point of this. Is this some fun fact Friday? And if so, where is the fun?

Well, you've got me.

I’m kind of an r-slur, and I did not know how to ask. Do Holes still expire in 7 days? I was sure it’s two weeks now, but the site guide says 7 days.

Because if they do this one is going to die tomorrow. And I know Florist of Carpathia, may be upset, and even dismayed that he didn’t get the name right (an honest mistake really could have happened to anyone), and may have given up on this place, but if this Hole outlives the imposter one I’m sure our Egyptian Overlord, might consider his plight for a name change.

So this post is just a glorified bump really. Also, 7 days or 14, can someone tell me?

Thank you in advance.

(also, Carp I know you are busy with the site being broken, and all, but I hope you haven't given up on this Hole that has a tremendous number of new posts (1 since creation) with tons of engagement (comment from Snappy), it's fall would be a great (symbolic) loss for Catholicism)

It looks like the Hole thing is not valid anymore, ignore it.
