Having screwed over players with SWBF the first time around and promising that things would be different, EA has locked basic features such as heroes behind dozens of hours of game time in SWBF2. People that didn't learn the first time get angry

I am a bot. (Info / Contact)

Gamers have the memory of goldfish they bitch about some awful "feature" being implemented in a game the inevitable sequel turns that up to 11 yet they still end up preordering it only to bitch about how said feature that sucked in the first game is back even stronger in the sequel

To be fair the problem with the first game was entirely different. I got screwed because their third DLC update made many game modes and maps hang on the loading screen forever and they wouldn't load. When they couldn't fix it (it was probably a simple issue anyway) they tried to get me to buy battlefield 1 as a "solution."

That's not really the issue. What's happening is that dedicated gaming enthusiasts remember ever minor thing EA has done and don't buy their games anymore. On the off chance they make something that looks passable, it will be pirated. Nobody who enjoyed the original BattleFront series has given a second look at this game.

There's a huge audience of people who casually play games, though. The sort of people who will buy any major release just to play it. They bought the last one. They bought the Battlefields. They buy Call of Duty. They buy FIFA and Madden and Destiny and GTA. Whatever has hype.

Gamers are content to work through their backlog. There's enough good games from the 80's, 90's, and a few years on either side of those decades to keep them going for a long time. Only casuals need new releases because they can't handle actual gameplay.

> "dedicated gaming enthusiasts"

> using the word "casual" unironically

scratches cheese dust out of neckbeard

Casuals are the cancer of the gaming industry. They indiscriminately prop up the worst business practices and make publishers think good games aren't profitable.

Gas the casuals.

Casuals are the cancer of the gaming industry.

Maybe you haven't noticed it yet, but they are the gaming industry by a very large margin.

That's precisely the problem. They need to go.

People don't like the things you like. Welcome to life.

They can have them as long as I get mine.

i don't forget, i'm a spiteful little bastard and have a large list of companies and game series I'll never buy again, #bless

Not trying to be a smart ass, but are these people bitching that something they want costs money?

Well, typically when I buy a book, I don't have to then also pay to read past chapter 10 or whatever, is how I understand it

Shhh, don't give publishers ideas.

Ever play a telltale game?

it's that they already spent money on it but it still isn't there

It's because you have to play like 40 hours to unlock a hero which means that standard multilayer content is locked. EA has responded saying that it gives a "sense of accomplishment" even though they let you get heroes instantly if you spend a lot of money on microtransactions. Basically they're saying "you've paid $100, now here's another $100 you have to spend if you want to access the content we advertised as being available at launch unless you want to spend 40 hours grinding"

Are the locked things just cosmetics?

No, it's literally hero characters with strategic use and unique abilities.

This doesn't even go into star cards (they're abilities for your soldier) which are designed so that there is an imbalance between early and late star cards, trying to get you to drop another £100 on loot crates

Are low level noobs forced to play against high level characters? Like, if I don't spend money and choose to grind do I have to play against someone that dropped a bunch of money and one hits me?

Yep

That's gay.

Thats EA.

that's modern gaming in a nutshell

I wish it was only that. Excessive DLC is one of many evils.

It's in the game (...but locked behind a paywall).

Basically you would need to play the game around 60 hours to unlock Darth Vader

You know a company is greedy when a full retail priced game includes what is essentially a Free 2 Play model. Fuck off with that shit, EA.

if folks weren't stupid enough to buy this shit then it would have died years ago

People as an aggregate are stupid.

You know candy crush? Basically a line 3 game but made by jews? Millions of people play, spend money and enjoy way worse "games".

Idiots are a profitable target audience.

I assume there are different heroes; can they be unlocked in fewer hours than vader? like, can i get Jar-Jar in five hours?

Pretty sure a couple are unlocked immediately but it's designed so that Vader can be bought with real money, giving you an advantage early on. It's more pay to win in the game

Gamers: they can't keep getting away with this!!!

Also gamers: Hey, $120 edition! Preordered!

The best part is that the whole point of video games is pattern recognition.

e whole point of video games is

I don't think you play video games.

Then, enlightened one, how does one progress in a video game?

How ever the hell the player wants to? Not everybody tries to optimize the shit out of games. I have friends with hundreds of civ games, not ONCE have they tried to optimize shit. They play on normal difficulty and develop their Civ thematically, and have a ton of fun.

Videogames are meant to be enjoyed, for some that means honing mechanics, and climbing some kind of ranked latter, for others it means fulfilling a fantasy. Pattern recognition is only really needed for player optimization. I don't think that most people who are playing star wars battlefront really want to truly optimize gameplay, even IF there is a PVP element. If they wanted to be part of group one, they would largely be playing CS:GO, PUBG, Overwatch if they want to stick to shooters.

Wow, way to completely miss the point of what I said. From that, and the fact that you think that wall of text is something I’m actually going to read, I conclude that you are unspeakably crippled by your autism, and that you should either go outside or kill yourself. I don’t particularly care which.

Interesting that you insinuate that you didn't read my post, and simultaneously stated that you knew I missed your point.

Interesting brain ya got there.

We can see the checklist here. There’s big language, calling someone an autist, and meme arrows. I think we could probably guess the age of this person easily

I don't think I've ever downvoted one of your comments. Can I have your autograph? Can I suck your dick? Can you fuck me?

I'm only here to provide quality content

Upvoted, liked, commented, subscribed, enabled notifications, retweeted.

HIT THAT FUCKING BELL, CAN WE GET 3 BILLION LIKES ON THIS COMMENT

No

Why not?

we barely have that many people on the internet.

Well you see, gamers aren't a hivemind if you weren't aware. The ones who complain about this shit aren't the ones who pre-order this shit.

While that is true, you also get things like this

Shout-outs to the one guy sticking with W@W

W@W is the only decent one on PC.

I'm pretty sure they just joined the group to make them look stupid.

#HashtagNotAllGamers

MFW when

ree.jpg

"Gamers" are still playing BattleFront 2 even though the official servers were shut down years ago.

Only Normie scum would throw tons of money at this trash.

Every time i complain about this kind of stuff i basically get told to fuck off, i'm getting too old for this shit

And it's now the second most downvoted comment in the history of reddit.

lol.

And they'll still buy the third SWBF game

Downvotes stop affecting karma at -15 or something. I was below 1000 karma and in the sub r/CatsStandingUp. I was downvoted for saying "Dog." to -300 but i didn't notice a big change.

It must vary by amount of karma. Ive gone lost 100 karma before from a comment.

I'm pretty sure they stop effect comment karma at 100, not 15. Back to the topic, I'm pretty sure EA isn't worried about the comment karma on their reddit account.

If you comment anything on that sub that isn't Cat. your comment will not be visible to anyone else. Try commenting something other than Cat. then opening the post in an incognito window. You won't see your comment there and if you view your profile in the incognito window the comment will be visible until you click context where it will disappear. Not sure how you can get downvoted for saying dog when nobody else would be able to see it.

If it's a css thing then mobile or just disabling css would make it visible

CSS is not capable of that, it's likely automod

Most downvoted of all time now, just beat the me_irl by at least a hundred.

Bonus: 2 years ago when the first game was about to come out the EA representatives got banned from reddit for bribery, as did the sub's mod team. He is now blaming plebbit:

https://www.reddit.com/r/StarWarsBattlefront/comments/7cha1u/sledgehammer70_last_tweet_lol_hes_making_dice/

Even though he is clearly using /u/EACommunityTeam and just wants to blame reddit

the EA representatives got banned from reddit for bribery]

Oooh I had forgotten about that. That was huge at the time.

it was? i mean of course it was, but how did i miss it? must have been during my hiatus

Not to mention that just after this comment went up the same person who got banned 2 years ago and who totally doesn’t run said account making that comment made a tweet insulting anyone who had a grievance with the how the game was set up calling them “Armchair Developers”

Damnnnn I did not know about that

-15.4k points

Holy shit, this is probably the 3rd most downvoted comment on reddit.

  1. I usually let them sit a few days. I have it saved.
  2. https://www.reddit.com/r/iraniangenius/wiki/faq#wiki_number_of_subreddits_moderated

Cheers

wew lads this guy does it all for free

unfortunately

You should start a patreon, like the /r/IAMA mods.

...do they really have a patreon?

Yeah, they started it a few days ago.

Oh yeah I heard about that problem a month ago or something. I feel like if the admins would invest in their subreddits, that kind of thing wouldn't happen.

That sucks.

Since I've never had the pleasure, what does it feel like to do actual "work" and then not get paid for it? What's the appeal?

If I don't feel like doing it, I don't do it. I shitpost on reddit anyway. When I moderate, I don't have to message the mods to get a rule breaking post removed.

don't you have some nukes to build or something

Seeing that you said you're an active mod, how do you find the time to do so?

i have no friends and no life

Same, that's why I post on /r/drama.

You're over 18 though, so I assume you're either in uni or have a job (or both)?

User of note?: no

Notes: Gabe Newell

???

Lol That was originally just a spot to put if they were a mod or admin. I should change that bit of the chart up a little.

holy shit, how pathetic can you be to have a personal wiki about your rebbit account?!

This guy is a reddit OG

But I am pathetic. He's not wrong.

I for one like you <3

-28.7k

Just made the #1 spot.

It just keeps going up, it's too bad I have no idea that I've never watched Star Wars and have no idea what Star Wars Battlefront is (probably a game I guess) to get all hot and bothered about it.

Games are serious business.

I've never watched Star Wars

Why

I missed out on most "popular culture" stuff when I was a kid.

Why is that?

He was raised by Muslims

Don't cut yourself on that edge.

Edges, like movies and other forms of pleasure, are haram

You might be interested in this sub, the halal version of /r/NoFap.

Holy shit that sub lmao

Well, for one, my family isn't super well off (cable and movie theaters are expensive), but also because they're pretty religious and don't have a good opinion on mainstream TV shows and movies in general. That stuff, in combination with my autism, made my childhood turn out pretty boring.

Now is a great time to watch the OT

I'm not a nerd

star wars is pretty shit tbh, its like the most over rated series ever

if you watched the old ones for the first time now youd cringe i can only manage that shit now with rifftrax

i mean, it’s pretty pulpy and simplistic but it’s better than most things

how are you this wrong about everything, anyway?

cmon man have you seen any of the originals lately

theyre legitimately no better than the prequels, its just nostalgia

its goofy acting and bad storytelling

how are you this wrong about everything, anyway?

i think youll find im right

lol i never even saw Empire until like two years ago, there’s no nostalgia factor

theyre legitimately no better than the prequels

and this is now the wrongest thing i’ve ever read

theres got to be some nostalgia thing doing it for you, because they really are shit

the acting and actors, the storytelling, i cant find any part of them that i think are well done

the acting and actors

are fine to good lol, especially in V when they had an actual director. luke and obiwan are written almost shitty (thank god for editing) but they’re both played very convincingly; han and leia are fairly boring characters on paper but their actors lend a ton of humanity to em, and oz, williams and jones are great obv. emperor’s awesome in both sets

like it’s subjective, but there’s an objective advantage over the actors never looking like they know what they’re doing, what their characters want, or where they are

the storytelling

is actually really good lol. shit’s expertly edited, and after 50 rewrites spurred on by being questioned the final version actually has events play out in a way that makes sense to look at

now the story is fuckin caveman simplistic and has some holes, but it’s well-told lol

can’t think of any part of them

come on man, not even gonna consider the fx showcase angle? like it’s fine not to give a shit about spectacle, but do you just only watch crime dramas or something?

i disagree almost entirely but thats cool im not saying you cant like it

come on man, not even gonna consider the fx showcase angle?

ok fair enough ill concede this, when the originals came out the practical effects were pretty groundbreaking with all the ships flying around and stuff

but to me thats like saying wow transformers rules because look at the cgi

each to their own

but do you just only watch crime dramas or something?

i like most genres, i just dont get the hype tbh

feel the same way about stuff like game of thrones

but to me thats like saying wow transformers rules because look at the cgi

nah it’s like saying “wow *titianic * rules because look at the cgi”

cuz the cg in transformers is not good lol, it’s very indistinct and muddled

wait, just how bad do you understand the prequels to be

As of now its 74k downvotes jesus christ.

80k now. Only 28m gap

We might just hit 100k downboats! we did it reddit?

This is even more satisfyibg than watching r/news' subscriber count plummet last year.

-90 k now jesus

-120000

Video Gams r srys bsns

To be fair they actually are!

-210k right now. I think it's going viral and people are downvoting even more.

Can't wait to see it sell well anyways despite the fact it's garbage and reddit hates it.

i think (((EA))) pulls Michael Bay tricks to hoodwink the Chinese into buying these

-260k now lmao

-600,000 (almost) now.

"im part of something big!"

It's at -260K now. Vidya Games are SRS business, lads.

It's on the road to -500k now. At this point, it's a low score contest.

lol that got DESTROYED

We were promised free DLC, then we get P2W instead.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

I warned you all and got downvoted

You should stick to /vg/

What about when we get fooled 50 times?

Then it's worth 2 in the bush?

There's an old saying in Tennessee — I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again.

I can't remember the last time I actually spent sixty dollars for a game, that just seems crazy to me now with steam sales the way they are. Even new games I can usually find cheaper on eBay.

It's insane how much PC games drop in price over time. I've seen Arkham City on sale for like five bucks.

I wait for a game to have a disastrous launch and then get patches that fix the problems. By then everyone has already decided the game sucks so they put it on sale. I got Battlefield 4 for something like $10 that way.

Only $60 dollar games I buy are nintendo games. I don’t regret spending that much for zelda or mario odyssey. I was more than happy to pay more for their DLC since you know... they were working on it as the game was released and not day 1 DLC

Same here, i may have spent AAA price on a few games (mainly brand new releases that i love to play), but mostly when it comes to my games i’ll wait for a sale.

People still buy EA games?

People actually use Origin?

Are you fucking stupid?

I had a problem last year where my internet connection would slow down to the point it was unusable. I tried everything I could think of over several days to fix it. Finally I just start uninstalling everything. Once Battlefield 4 and Origin were gone, my connection was back instantly. I'm guessing it was a bug in the rootkit they use to detect cheaters. Whatever it was, I'm not buying any more shit from them.

its punkbuster

Anyone buying this shit when the 2005 version is still way better deserves to get fucked.

yes yes yes

It's now the most downvoted comment ever with 45k downvotes, but it got fucking gilded.

From a few comments I've read people are basically desperate for a new Star Wars game and as much as they don't like it they need their fix

If everyone who intended to buy it on Reddit held off a few months atleast to hurt their sales it could prove a point....but I don't see that happening

-77.7k points

holy shit lmao

dozens of hours of game time

Wow, I hope those filthy casuals never play DoTA or LoL, where not being told you are a worthless feeder is locked behind hundreds of hours of game time.

(implying the mid will ever stop being a salty prima-donna who fails to realise that the only constant factor in all the games they lost is themselves)

DoTA and LoL are free games.

Also, doesn't dota2 give you access to all heroes from the start? Or are they the same as lol with some dumb grinding component?

It's all free

Free games, also implying you ever stop being told you are a worthless feeder, also implying they aren't cancer in their own way.

You get all of DotA2's content upfront for free and you will always be a worthless feeder.

Found the Dotard.

> be dotard

> muh denying

> muh skillshots

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand DoTA 2. The meta is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of Nash equilibria most of the dynamics of match-ups will go over a typical viewer’s head. There’s also probability, which is deftly woven into the pseudo-random generator - priming crits is not merely another mechanic but a deep meta-commentary on the nature of luck and chnce. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these strats, to realise that they’re not just skillful - they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike DoTA truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn’t appreciate, for instance, the humour in Pudge's existential catchphrase “FRESH MEAT!” which itself is a cryptic reference to the Butcher in Diablo. I’m smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Ice Frog's genius wit unfolds itself on their Twitch streams. What fools.. how I pity them. 😂

-100k soon! Only 12k+ downvotes to go.

Sadly it will change nothing because your average pleb will still buy every EA game.

wait so they can unlock anything if they just put in effort? haha we've reached a new age.

Videogamers are now too lazy to play their own video games themselves so they complain that it should be done for them.

I remember back in my day I had to play a videogame straight through to the end in one 4 hour sitting just to get beat by the impossibly difficult final boss and restart the game 25 times. That's why I'm so successful in life today.

>confusing grinding with effort

It's not supposed to be an RPG.

r/routesaroundit

Take a look at this list. Your comment has been met with universal negativity. This is not what gamers want.

Imagine being this naive.

That's not how you ping someone...

Fuck. Had autism off. It's back on now

naive enough to think half a million people equals a rough consensus, or naive enough to think an EA rep would actually read their comment

Holy shit, I am so fucking sick of hearing about this. I'm content to just not buy it and move on with my life. Gamers on this site want it to be the most talked about game in history.

Looool it literally happened less than a day ago

Yes, and I am already sick of hearing about it.

14 gold

lol

43 now... Wonder who's buying all that gold

the fans, obviously. it’s an ensurance attempt for extra availability of early access.

Forcing players to play the game to unlock content: OK

Forcing players to buy additional DLC to unlock content: OK

Giving players the choice between these two options: REEEEEEE

make the option highly unattractive so people cave in and take the second option

Farmville must be peak pro consumer then

Sounds like something you should take into account before buying the game.

it a good thing i didn't buy the game then?

lol why are people even angry at this

you used to have to finish games to unlock characters

then they started doing "give us $2 and well give you the character"

people bitched for years "give us characters to unlock again!"

ea like "ok" and people bitch even harder

fucking nerds

Oh wow, that has to be the biggest downvoted comment I've ever seen on reddit. Over 400k downvotes

How many hours does it take to unlock (this badass) [https://youtu.be/Cu_80StDyfQ]?

Also, how fucking high was Lucas to think that's a good design for a space wizard?

lol things WERE different, just worse
