Disneycels are going to be REEEEEEing up a storm if Endgame doesn't beat Avatar at the box office
154 2019-05-04 by MasterLawlz
I'll seriously laugh my ass off if it doesn't happen. Nerds are gunning so hard for it to become the highest grossing movie ever that if it doesn't then there will be unprecedented levels of cope as a response
Even ignoring the fact that the last ten years of inflation make the numbers hard to compare anyway, I guarantee there will be a bunch of whiny excuses like "uh b-b-but if all these other movies hadn't been all released near the same time then it would have won" or "but streaming wasn't popular back then so that's cheating" or whatever other things Marvel fans say to explain how the 22 movies and billions of dollars thrown at this franchise weren't able to make as much money as some random fantasy movie James Cameron pulled out of his ass
I just don't see it happening. I really highly doubt that you could go from 1.5 billion grossed for the first Avengers, add another 500 million on top of it for the third one, and then expect it to do ANOTHER 800 million in addition to that. There's no way that Disney has grown their fanbase that rapidly. I think it's a lot more likely that there was only a slight increase in fans but they all just saw the movie as soon as possible.
Have you seen any of those videos telling people to see Endgame just to make it #1? How pathetic do you have to be to give money to a multi-billion dollar company for the SOLE PURPOSE of giving them more money? That's literally the dumbest shit I've ever heard. Anyone doing that should not be trusted with a debit card.
I still enjoyed the movie and all and it's not like I actually care about Avatar but fanboys for Disney and all the brands they own are insufferable and it will be hilarious to watch their responses. They already whine EVERY time James Cameron criticizes their precious comic movies. I've even seen comments saying Cameron must be terrified of Endgame's success as if he actually gives two shits considering how stupidly rich he is.

this sticky is garbage & everyone knows it. lawlz, the estranged derelict he is, popped in for fifteen minutes before going out & overpaying for a crappy lunch at a nearby bullshit bloghyped sidewalk-chalkboard lame aging hipster shit-staurant, thought of a lame cliche, sharted some generic empty buzzwords that became irrelevant years ago to hide his insecurity & stickied it with all the passion of a pick-&-packer at yer nearest UPS fulfillment center. then the hivemind autists pile in to disregard any sense of discernment, sensibility & perspective to hamfistedly lose their mind over the new shit sticky. and you're all part of the sad, ongoing spectacle. disgusting.

1 Warbring3r 2019-05-04
When you boil away most movies their story isnât very original. Most capeshit movies are âgood guy must defeat bad guy. Fight. Bad guy is defeated. Endâ. At least the going native storyline fit the visuals and the point of the movie.
1 allendrio 2019-05-04
Of course most movies are a series of tropes, doesnt stop them from being good, the OG star wars was basically the tropiest shit ever and is still great. Its different when not only are you tropey as hell but you arent even original just a reskin with the white people in spaceships and the natives on alien horses / flying lizards.

1 ItsSugar 2019-05-04
The sole point of avatar is that it was the movie with the best visuals at the time it was released. The story was absolute garbage and the alien-americans were conceived by furries who hadn't yet stumbled upon the online forums they would eventually call home. Saying it's not good after watching it on cable is like saying mac & cheese is bad because you didn't even heat up those week-old leftovers.
1 FrostBittenSalsa 2019-05-04
But it was worse than week old leftovers though đ€
1 arandomloser21 2019-05-04
Even if you've seen it, you probably don't remember it. I remember a twitter post that said "name 3 characters from Avatar" and tbh I could only come up with one. Avatar is by all accounts a basic sci-fi movie with pretty CGI, but it somehow has the highest gross over any movie ever. For fucks sake it has its own attraction in Mouse Land yet no one knows any of the fuckers in Avatar.
1 Warbring3r 2019-05-04
Dumb meme test. Name 3 characters from any movie that isnât based on an existing work and doesnât have any sequels. Iâm glad Avatar sits at the top because it has been making capeshitters cry for a decade while James Cameron mocks capeshit lmao.
1 Seattle_Bussy_Lmao 2019-05-04
Well between their 21st Century Fox Acquisition and ESPN, I wouldnât be surprised.
2 MasterLawlz 2019-05-04
I'm talking about the fanbase for this series specifically. The only series I know of that had that drastic of an increase between sequels are Terminator and The Dark Knight.
1 Seattle_Bussy_Lmao 2019-05-04
Then I would agree with you. Avengers has always looked like a shotgun approach to appealing to capeshit fans while something like Dark Knight took Batman/Joker and really delved into the characters.
1 MasterLawlz 2019-05-04
It's morbid to say but Heath Ledger and Paul Walker dying are the best things that ever happened to the Batman and F&F franchises, financially speaking. I highly doubt either would have crossed the billion-dollar marks without their lead stars having highly publicized deaths.
1 Seattle_Bussy_Lmao 2019-05-04
I expect nothing less from you, Mr. Lawlz.
1 eleven4for20 2019-05-04
I'm not big on CGI. Call me a purest but if F&F used strings and a real puppeteer with dead Paul Walker it would have been a better movie.
1 EyeseeFN 2019-05-04
That's because those series were good.

Difference being I watched Pokémon when I was a teenager back in 1999-2000 and then grew out of it. I watched Detective Pikachu out of curiosity and it was a good movie. I don't then go on Reddit arguing which Pokémon is stronger and who would beat Pikachu in a fight like your pathetic ass does for superheroes and comic book shit.
Also, thanks for essentially surrendering and admitting you're a manchild obsessed with superheroes and comic books. I'm nothing like you boy.

Cameron talking shit about comic book movies considering the films he's made is kinda hilarious to me. They really aren't that different yet I guess he feels like he gets to be all judgemental for whatever reason.
1 MasterLawlz 2019-05-04
All the articles about the comments he made on comic movies are clickybaity BS. It's not like he said, "Comic movies are all terrible and anyone who likes them is an idiot". He's criticized a few individual ones and said he personally thinks the genre is a little played out as a whole. It's like, what, do people not expect a film director to have opinions on films? Nerds just can't handle someone not loving every movie with a Marvel logo on it. James Cameron was even going to direct a Spider-Man movie in the 90's so it's not like he's opposed to the genre. Plus, a movie he recently produced was based on a manga
And I wouldn't really agree that his movies are like your typical comic movies. Almost everything he makes features technology that didn't exist beforehand and T2 still holds up really well.
1 MonotonyOfLife 2019-05-04
đ I sleep
1 Metatron58 2019-05-04
Generally speaking comic book films are action adventure with occasionally a sprinkling of other genres in there. That's very similar to the majority of films Cameron has made. That's all I was really saying is he can be critical of it but it smacks at least a little of no self awareness if he is.
I mean Avatar was technically impressive as well but otherwise generic as fuck.
i'm interested in seeing where the genre goes now that Marvel's 10 year plan is finished. It doesn't seem like it's going anywhere considering box office numbers but i'm not convinced people aren't genuinely going to get tired it in the next few years and it will fall off. It will of course be replaced by the return of the battle royale genre and the aliens watching this shitshow will finally have the excuse they need to nuke the planet.
1 MasterLawlz 2019-05-04
T2 and Aliens were both much more violent than most comic movies though and Titanic was a historical epic/disaster movie. There isn't much sci-fi like he used to make anymore, aside from that recent Blade Runner sequel which was pretty cool. Marvel movies are a lot more lighthearted and focused on comedy. They're still blockbusters but he definitely took his more seriously.
Idk what Marvel will be like from now on. The overarching plot is now done so maybe they'll start a new one or just coast off individual sequels until the actors' contracts expire.

I legit could not care less what movie it is, but something needs to dethrone Avatar one of these days. Least deserved #1 spot I could possibly think of.
I've seen jacksfilms posting endgame propoganda for the exact same reason.
1 Warbring3r 2019-05-04
Sure but Endgame? Endgame is embarrassingly bad even by capeshit standards. At least Avatar was decent spaceshit and pushed vfx boundaries if you saw it in IMAX 3D, the only thing Endgame did was test my patience with 3 hours of predictable yet somehow incoherent marvelshit. Avatar also had a few emotionally resonant scenes like Hometree falling and Jakeâs birthday, all Endgame had was RDJ monologuing âDisney wants to hire cheaper actors so peace out âïž !â
1 Sarge_Ward 2019-05-04
No
See yeah sure it did at the time, but not even 2 years later a kids film, How to Train Your Dragon, completley blew it out of the water in that regard. (And honestly no film has been able to really beat that series to this point imo). Plus that movie had an incredibly good and most importantly memorable story and characters.
Endgame is also the conclusion to a movie series titan that is nearly a decade in the making. Like the original Star Wars, its going to be remembered for quite a while afterwards. Dances With Wolves ripoff just... isn't, even now less than a decade later.
1 Warbring3r 2019-05-04

1 Warbring3r 2019-05-04

1 Sarge_Ward 2019-05-04
Jack and Rose I think are incredibly easy to remember. Everyone else not so much but I don't think thats too much of a stretch.
I have no such video though so I can not prove this. I have been beat
1 Warbring3r 2019-05-04
They spend half the movie yelling names at each other, but I still doubt most people could name the characters except right after the movie was released. A better test would be to take random (or even iconic) frames from each movie (since film is primarily a visual medium), show them to people, and see if they know the movie. Avatar would perform just fine with that test.

1 FrostBittenSalsa 2019-05-04
A lot of these shitbeards identify but the bullshit they consume because they lack the character/personality to be their person. This results in them taking way too much pride in being fans of their capeshit franchise of choice to the point where they get violently upset if they don't see it get a bunch of pointless recognition. This in turn has resulted in turning pop culture into a broiling cesspool of blind consumerism and autism
1 PmMeBukkakeImages 2019-05-04
At this point you are just being contrarian just to be contrarian, Titanic should have stayed the highest box office ever.
The blue furry group and capeshit #22 don't deserve that spot
1 MasterLawlz 2019-05-04
One problem with older movies is that some tickets were cheaper back then even if you adjusted for inflation. So, if you went off ticket sales, the rankings would be totally different and Titanic would beat Avatar.

1 guffynemo 2019-05-04
I don't think they grown their fan base but the only reason Avengers did so well was because of China and the same can happen to Star Wars. As if Disney releases the movie there and the Chinese like it they can get a huge boost in sales.
1 MasterLawlz 2019-05-04
I don't think Star Wars will ever be as lucrative as it was with TFA. They'll still make money (or at least, I imagine so, Solo did bomb to everyone's surprise) but that movie was riding off of 30 years with no sequel to some of the most successful movies ever. Yeah, there were prequels but those didn't have Luke or Han or any of the original crew minus the droids.
I just wish they had given the reigns to a better filmmaker than JJ Abrams. Jon Favreau is doing a TV series but he should have done the movies because he's a significantly better director. They also offered it to Brad Bird but the dude turned it down for freaking Tomorrowland, what a waste.
