I was friends with this girl that had a little 1yo kid and I knew the father. The father was a party guy with serious narcissistic issues. I knew this girl before she even was with the guy and was surprised to find her all depressed with the 1yo kid. Despite me being afraid of becoming a dad, I played uncle for a while until me and the girl fell in love. Fast forward 2 years later, we got married and got another kid.

My SD is not legally mine. I support her in every way that a father would, right down to daddy-daughter day, including her when her sister (biologically mine) stays with me on my parenting time.

I do absolutely everything for her EXCEPT legally adopt her. And it's 100% because I don't trust her mom to not find a way to double up the support I'm already giving.
