I can answer because I'm roughly in the same position except (and a bunch of "skeptics" are the same) I'm still an Atheist and that'll never change. We realised that lack of religion caused r-slurs to replace it with unquestioning political ideology to the degree of complete insanity. Also, it has left western society in general with fewer cowtools to deal with other religions trying to shit up the place (Islam). These two things I think have contributed to the general degeneration society.
Anyway point is Christianity in current year is almost completely benign and probably a net positive for keeping r-slurs busy and morally grounded.

Because people who throw that term around treat literature like a math problem that needs to be solved. They think that theres only one "correct" way to analyze a piece of art, and if you have a differing opinion then obviously you just didnt understand what the story was about. Why would he bother reading the book and come up with his own opinion when he can look up the correct interpretation online and regurgitate it to other r-slurs.

Instead of actually cultivating taste in art, they curate opinions about art... I'm smart because I have all the same opinions as smart people.
The problem becomes, no one actually knows what makes something good. Everything gets awful when the people who are good at faking it (right fashion, right politics, very social, ... ) set the fashion that everyone else copies; While the actual artists (who are being weird and making art) get called posers for not having the right tshirt.

You could say "intent" matters a lot more to people now than actions. There's obvious choices for art where the author/artist makes the intent clear and you can see what he or she meant but then you have other things where the author/artist failed in having their intent be known in their works, leading to the current conundrum we have about movies such as Starship Troopers where the subtext is too subtle that it's not unreasonable for many who see it to come away from the movie thinking the worldwide government made to be fascists are cool and the good guys.
This also muddies with the artistic techniques used by artists, especially the modernists. James Joyce's Ulysses isn't now a novel that was groundbreaking in its use of stream-of-consciousness, use of structure, paralleling with old epic poems (The Odyssey), and alluding to the old curriculums of the 19th-20th centuries and can be thrown out entirely for how the novel has themes about Irish nationalism, Catholicism, and antisemitism (which it does), meaning I can throw out any true analysis of the book's techniques and how it "works" in favor of having the right opinion. It's a crisis of art by so-called "art lovers" in favor of promoting their own wingcuckery and the types of arbitrary ranking of art and music you see on shit like Topsters.
