After a couple of very disappointing efforts that convinced me it was over for Pearl Jamcels I have just given Dark Matter a listen and I like it.
They have clearly taken the long-overdue decision to cross the threshold into full-on Boomer Rock and it works.
Eddie Vedder's voice sounds back on form although, compared to Gigaton and Lightning Bolt, somewhat suspiciously so. If it's been technologically enhanced, it at least sounds better than the warbling old man voice of the previously mentioned albums.

A random portfolio manager nobody cares about posted this tweet just as an aside.
Note that this guy may have a wrong opinion (at least to me) but of course, who should care about this? It's not like this was a celebrity or artist like James Blake saying the saxophone is a bad instrument in an interview.
Here's the reactions:
I'll be the one to say it, calling Japanese jazz better than American Jazz is for sure racist.
I disagree
I think I'll probably just block you for being a racist p-dophile
I agree
These are big statements built off of what is ultimately personal taste.
Output is shaped by culture, and reinforced through shared preference.
So all you're seeing is where your preferences intersect.
An actual rational opinion
"""Same here"""
A lot of you are exposing yourselves as anti-Black, Asian fetishizers, or both on here.
I argued with this guy before about Miles Davis biographies and biographers. I won.
Whether trolling or not I'm adding this to my file of top-notch bait
"Japanese jazz is superior to American jazz" you literally just hate Black people
A random Hotep joins in
I heavily disagree with the Herbie Hanpeepee and Miles Davis comment but Return to Forever and Mahavishnu Orchestra definitely inspired "Japanese jazz".
Lmao, the gall of your average American "jazz" fan.
People say this and the Japanese jazz they're talking about is like Ryo Fukui
Swans pfp
"japanese jazz is superior to american jazz" is one of those opinions that acts as a nazi dogwhistle
Didn't Adorno your Marxist college idol say jazz fricking sucked?
If one attempts, as has been the case often enough, to consider the use value of jazz, its suitability as a mass commodity, as a corrective to the bourgeois isolation of autonomous art, as something which is dialectically advanced, and to accept its use value as a motive for the nullification (Aujhebung) of the object character (Dingcharakter) of musk, one succumbs to the latestform of Romanticism which, because of its anxiety in the face of the fatal characteristics of capitalism, seeks a despairing way out, in order to affirm the feared thing itself as a son of ghastly allegory of the coming liberation and to sanctify negativity - a curative in which, by the way, jazz itself would like to believe. - Adorno, On Jazz
WORDS WORDS WORDS - TL;DR he fricking hates jazz because muh capitalism
The final quote I've got:
@MarseyIsMyWaifu is this you? Also probably has only listened Ornette's 50's and 60's albums but not his 70's and 80's albums. Delusional.
A number of other quotes were talking about J-pop and following the same line of logic as this cute twink was on about Japanese jazz. Self-awareness is zero for (most of) these commenters. If you didn't read or even look at the Marseys, your average American jazz fan is as r-slurred as your average Japanese jazz fan or just calling this "racist" for some reason.

I won a CD of this song from a rhythm game at a skating rink arcade when I was like 12.
Still catchy.

This isn't over 'til we talk in
The light
Said I was sober, but you knew that
I lied
You grip the wheel, maybe I'd like
To try
I'll flip it over, with you and me
Inside
I won't atone for debts I paid for
In full
Hang up my shame on display for you
(for you)
I'm not the same and you don't get to
Decide
Who gets replaced, who gets to live and
To die
So what do you want from me, so what do you want?
So what do you want from me, so what do you want?
So what do you want from me, so what do you want?
So what do you want from me? (So what do you want?)
So what do you want from me, so what do you want?
So what do you want from me, what do you want? Oh
So what do you want?

Eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth
Lightin' molotovs for the broken youth
Can you hear me through the white noise, friend?
A cheers to the life you don't get to choose
Another Antichrist on the evening news
Can you hear me through the white noise?
Can you hear me through the white noi—
We're not gonna be a commodity
Not another maggot in the feed that you're gonna eat
Motherlover, you can try
Artificial suicide
We're not gonna be a commodity
Not anothеr maggot in the feed that you're gonna eat
Mothеrfricker, you can try
Artificial suicide
Don't look back, don't look back
Don't look back, don't look back
You hate the shape when you have to see
An unfamiliar face on an all-black screen
Can you hear me through the white noise, friend?
Repeat the phrase they force you to read
"If I wanna be great, I don't wanna be me"
Can you hear me through the white noise?
Can you hear me through the white noise?
Don't look back, don't look back
Can you hear me?
Can you hear me through the white noise?
We're not gonna be a commodity
Not another maggot in the feed that you're gonna eat
Motherlover, you can try
Artificial suicide
We're not gonna be a commodity
Not another maggot in the feed that you're gonna eat
Motherlover, you can try
Artificial suicide
Don't look back, don't look back
Don't look back, don't look back
Can you hear me through the white noi—

I made another mistake, thought I could change
Thought I could make it out
Promises break, need to hear you say
You're gonna keep it now
I miss the way you say my name
The way you bend, the way you break
Your makeup running down your face
The way you touch, the way you taste
When the curtains call the time
Will we both go home alive?
It wasn't hard to realize
Love's the death of peace of mind
Peace of mind
Peace of mind
Love's the death of peace of mind
You're in the walls that I made with crosses and frames
Hanging upside down
For granted, in vain, I took everything
I ever cared about
I miss the way you say my name
The way you bend, the way you break
Your makeup running down your face
The way you frick, the way you taste
When the curtains call the time
Will we both go home alive?
It wasn't hard to realize
Love's the death of peace of mind
When the curtains call the time
Will we both be satisfied?
It wasn't hard to realize
Love's the death of peace of mind
Peace of mind
Love's the death of peace of mind
Peace of mind
Love's the death of peace of mind

Watashi wa anata ni dōi shimasen
Watashi wa anata ni dōi shimasen
Watashi wa anata ni dōi shimasen
I disagree, everything you believe is a tragedy
I disagree with the way you keep preaching insanity
I disagree with all of the reasons you're mad at me
I disagree, everything in your life is a tragedy
Down, let it all burn down
Burn it to the ground
We'll be safe and sound
When it all burns down
Let it all burn down
Burn it to the ground
We'll be safe and sound
When it all burns down
I disagree with the way you continue to pressure me
I disagree with the way you are failing to pleasure me
I disagree, everything is going how it's meant to be
I disagree with the way you continue to pressure me
Down, let it all burn down
Burn it to the ground
We'll be safe and sound
When it all burns down
Let it all burn down
Burn it to the ground
We'll be safe and sound
When it all burns down
If only all of you could see the world I see
Then maybe everyone could live in harmony
Watashi wa anata ni dōi shimasen
Watashi wa anata ni dōi shimasen
Watashi wa anata ni dōi shimasen
Watashi wa anata ni dōi shimasen
Down, let it all burn down
Burn it to the ground
We'll be safe and sound
When it all burns down
Let it all burn down
Burn it to the ground
We'll be safe and sound
When it all burns down
