r/moviescirclejerk absolutely BOILING about the green book winning the Oscars. The entire front-page is filled with either whining about the Green book or whining about mayos.

Redpill me on the Green Book, why did movie flavoured circlebrokers not like it?

Wypipo.

Well I haven't seen the green book or any of the oscar contenders this year because they all seem shit.

I read the film synopsis and it says it's about a black guy and an Irish guy working out their racism issues which you would think is something these morons would like.

But from the comparisons to Crash(2004) in those threads I believe it is pretty hamfisted in its message and more importantly the director and writer are white, so they don't seem to like mayos acting like they understand racial issues. The writer also apparently accused muslims of celebrating 9/11.

They really don't seem to like that it won over a spike lee film(a black guy known for making films on racism) and they were cheering for Black panther to win as well.

I thought some Muslims did celebrate 9/11 I remember seeing videos on the news.

Oh muslims did celebrate 9/11 but this was about Trump claiming thousands were doing it in new Jersey which I don't know about.

in new Jersey

then it was probably not muslims but regular "americans"

New Jersyans are the real enemy.

I like this idea that Muslims are immediately distinguishable and nobody would think to take a picture of them.

it was 2001 dumbass not to many iphones with cameras on hand

Take it easy. I left my tinfoil at home

You're right we all had real cameras back then. Digital, film, disposable, VCRs in the trunks of police cars.

So are you 20 and didn't know that cameras on cell phones weren't that common or 30 and just don't want to admit that you forgot?

We had real cameras. With big lenses with film that goes in them. We had disposable cameras. You could buy them for ten bucks at any corner store. Then we had digital cameras. There was no phone attacked to them. They also had big lenses and were much like the film cameras. There were also dash cams on police cars in 2001. Plus police keep records of the kind of calls they receive. Anything else you'd like to know just ask!

So the second one.

No people didn't have to run to the store and buy them, they would just have these things sitting around.

I wish reality would stop confirming my paranoid delusions. It makes it awkward when I have to talk to my psychiatrist.

It's hamfisted compared to fucking Crash? How is that even possible?

They're not saying it's more hamfisted but that they're similar is how they handle those issues.(white saviour complex apparently).

Those people are just retarded. See it for yourself. I don't see any reason for the movie to get so much vitriol except for the fact a mayo dared to make a feel-good movie that also touches on racial issues in 2018.

Probably man, maybe it's because I am not american but I've never really liked hollywood movies that focus a lot on racial issues. Fuck the last time I enjoyed such a movie was Django which had the usual Tarantino stuff going on to compensate.

My man decaprio acted the FUCK out of that movie

If he ever deserved an Oscar, it was much more for Django than it was for the Revenant.

Gotta give it to the funny german accent man, though.

Waltz was good in that movie to be fair. Not as good as he was in Inglorious Bastards, but still a great performance. DiCaprio did blow him out of the water though

Better watch The Favourite instead - that's actually.enrertaning and not try to solve racism and other great crimes.Just a fun movie.

Its like "lets just hug it out and racism solved!" which seems either naive at best and disenginous at worst.

If everyone did that, racism would be solved.

You should watch free solo that was pretty dope

Black panther winning would have been fucking hilarious. Acting like African Batman is some form of high art is the way Mayo's pay their reparations.

Why do white people use the term “mayo”

Self deprecation isn’t funny hunny

Just calling a spade a spade sweaty

They really don't seem to like that it won over a spike lee film(a black guy known for making films on racism) and they were cheering for Black panther to win as well.

A black guy who makes blatantly exaggerated and biased films which operate off his own poor understanding of racial dynamics in general.

However that ignorance is entirely cancelled out via loud "African" colored clothing, neat 5 panel hats, oversized high-intellect glasses, and carrying around a tiny Camcorder while twirling his hand like he's winding it up to film candid authentic street romance while attending expensive basketball games.

Nobody is mad that Lee lost apart from Lee cause Blackkklansman Wasn't even a major contender or had any real chance The award was Roma's to lose.

The top post on r/mcj is whining about spike lee not winning best picture lmao.

Not all of his movies are like that! Some are shitty remakes for people too lazy/illiterate to read subtitles.

I didnt know liam neeson was in that movie

The dudes Italian actually. He went on to play Carmine Lupertazzi in the sopranos

I read the film synopsis and it says it's about a black guy and an Irish guy working out their racism issues which you would think is something these morons would like.

Liam Neeson’s career died for that Oscar

Story about white man over coming racism when we all know he should have been gulaged instead.

I read something about how the story is full of racist stereotypes with out holding any time of nuance. totally unlike black panther.

The premise of the movie is that a white man is acting as the guiding force to help a black man to discover his inner blackness.

The implications being that by being stuck-up and serious as a preist the man isn't "black enough," so instead he has to act on stereotypes to better match his race. Also people don't like that its a white man that is helping discover him how to act like his own people.

Thats my understanding from reading angry tweets earlier in the year

I thought it was a musician acted too "white" for black people and too "black" for white people and Viggo had to drive him around for music shows and he was a racist Italian until he met this guy and started defending him or something. I only watched one trailer.

I think it has elements of both. The focus is on what you're talking about, but there's a subtext/minor subplot of my point. If you remember the trailer the last joke in it about them getting Fried Chicken and the priest not really knowing how to eat it, but learning to from Viggo, that's part of that subplot.

Ita supposed to more or less be about both learning more about themselves from their experiences with the other, bit the lessons they learn generally rely on relies stereotypes.

Oh right i remmeber thr fried chicken part now. Yeah that's an interesting sentiment,I thought people would be cheering the statement but looks like they're so mad about it,it's pretty funny. Honestly I would just watch it for Viggo, bit since it pisses of so many people its reaches my must watch list now.

That part actually happened in real life apparently

The premise of the movie is that a white man is acting as the guiding force to help a black man to discover his inner blackness.

Ah the "Magical Honkey" trope.

For one thing, it treats racism as something that can be solved, which apparently to race hucksters is a threat to their Patreons and safe spaces. The worst thing that could ever happen to IDpol leftists is if people started getting past race and making IDpol irrelevant.

It's basically if the phrase "I'm not racist, I have a black friend" became sentient and made a movie.

It's like if Driving Miss Daisy was made today but nothing was changed.

It's the "let's make white people feel good about themselves for not being as racist as they could be" movie.

"Enlightened centrists" will love it.

I love how one of the posts basically parrots everyone else's criticism. Ghazelles can't even come up with their own original criticism and just parrot someone else's 🙄

I do not consider myself a centrist in any shape or form whatsoever, but I loved the movie.

So what does that say about me?

Heavily downvoted response. Lol, you literally can't even like this movie despite it winning Best Fucking Picture or else you're Hitler.

The best part is it is based on a true story and literally happened.

You might get the feeling that Mayos may be savable while other movies speak truthful about the needed Mayocide

It's just meh

Lately, woke people have decided that movies which portray racism as a negative character flaw and something to be overcome through learning and/or becoming a better person is bad because in their minds racism is not bigotry but instead the existence of some sort of societal construct or systematic oppression specifically designed to exploit minorities.

It actually makes total sense in certain circumstances, for example slavery in america was due to the fact that slavery was profitable as fuck. It would be disingenuous to just pretend that every slave owner did it cause they wanted to beat the shit out of black people when in reality they wanted to make tons of money.

On the other hand, it's fucking stupid because you have actual movies about people learning to become better people by overcoming racism and these dumbfucks completely discredit their value and actively label it as unwoke because of their stupid obsession with systematic oppression.

Wanna bet that 99% of the contributors in that thread are white?

Yes and 99% of them are also capehsitters and star wars shitters as well.

The preferred nomenclature is “spaceshitter”

The only spaceshit that deserves praise and support is kotor games

That's true, those were sick

And Spaceballs.

Watch out!

It hasn't aged well my dude.

Old people shouldn't have sex.

what u know about kotor u fucking meatbag?

Uh, helloooo, it's "master", HK, not meatbag

2001: a space odyssey

That's not spaceshit, that's something greater.

it’s a timeless piece of art

but it does largely take place in space

thus by definition it’s spaceshit. just like how The Dark Knight despite being a pretty good movie is still capeshit

But it isn't shit. There is a thin line between spaceshit and spacegoodness. Actually, no, it's a spectrum.

Bugmen

Nothing worse then cracker coons

Almost anything worthwhile has mayos contributing at 90's % levels.

I'm black and the movie is overrated.

I was worried that with black panther not winning best picture there'd be a lack of cope for me today. Thank you Moviescirclejerk for once more being less likeable than capeshit fans.

Moviescirclejerk users are only fans of capeshit if /r/movies has a problem with it.

There are 2 types of circlejerk subs. Fun ones, and contrarian ones. unfortunately you have to distinguish these subs for yourself. MCJ is the latter.

So you have retards at GCJ for example who dont like the Witcher 3 because it is critically acclaimed and pretty much everyone who played the game appreciates it.

Likewise, you have retards at Moviescirclejerk who defended ghostbusters because in their head the woke bullshit triggered the big bad incels.

These are not people who have tastw or really even any original thoughts at all. It's just people who go against the grain for the sake of being different and because of that they are often wrong about shit a lot of the time.

I've yet to see a circlejerk sub that's not just degenerate contrarianism.

/r/hiphopcirclejerk is pretty fun because its not too huge and /r/hhh deserves nothing but constant mockery

well you've obviously never seen r/pcj then

What’s r/pcj?

The OG /r/circlejerk is still funny.

i used to like /r/asoiafcirclejerk back when i was into those books

Circlejerk itself is great.

Even the small, fun niche ones are just contrarians acting like know-it-alls. It only depends on whether you agree with their opinion if you will find them enjoyable.

ghostbusterswasfunny

I'm sorry to hear about your degenerative brain disease.

Thanks. The progressive retardation is really a burden.

wrong

no u

Well yeah, the entire point of a jerk sub is to be smug about the patent dub and poke fun at their trends.

It's just people who go against the grain for the sake of being different

They aren't even contrarian here, are they? If they wanted to be consistently contrarian, they would make fun of people screeching about Green Book, as disliking it is a popular opinion in online space right now.

I checked /r/movies now and the most upvoted comments are saying exactly the same things about the movie as MCJ, so their sub is literally just an echochamber that lost it's way long time ago.

r/gamingcirclejerk is literally full of communists but they'll still side with billion dollar corporations forcing in gambling into games for children over g*mers

GCJ is a hive of braindead morons who think that saying "Praise Geraldo" is a funny meme.

You know what’s funny? Weren’t people saying Blackkklansman wasn’t woke enough when it came out? Didn’t some hipster journalist write a article about how it’s problematic?

Frankly, as a white woman

Of course

If the movie is a true story how can they make it more woke lol

Most of it wasn't true

Spike Lee lies.

explain it to me:

why that sub is so shit?

It's a metasub, there's literally not a single good one.

/r/Drama stands out by being merely terrible.

/r/Drama stands out by being merely particularly terrible.

As the gods intended.

r/drama shits on other meta subs

so it is metameta sub. so it is exponentially shitier

We suck, we're just usually not as smug about it.

They follow /r/marvelstudios, if they stayed out of that sub they'd lose >50% of their content overnight and actually have to develop a jerk that was more challenging than shooting fish in a barrel.

The star wars fans are the biggest issue imo. As the idpol thing rose only with their arrival.

When people were posting exclusively from both the marvel and DC subs there was very little of this circlebroke tier posts because as cringy as capeshitters were they were mostly intent on shitting on the other company.

the sub's primary complaint circa 2013 was that /r/movies never watches anything from before 1990 except for 12 Angry Men, Blade Runner and the Dollars Trilogy. The sub was actually filled with really knowledgeable people back then. Now its full of people who actually unironically get excited for the next Marvel release lmao.

Yeah capeshitter arrival really only started with "STRINGS ON ME" and the dams broke with BvS with constant posts from r/DC_cinematic. As funny as they were it lead to people from marvelstudios feeling at home and there were some unironic Snyder defenders as well but the star wars stuff has made the sub unrecognizable.

First it was overrun by capeshitters doing console wars BS.

Then came the star wars fags unironically defending the last Jedi under the guise of humor.

Then the TLJ white knighting attracted idpol morons (because the nu starwars movies are very woke) who gave up any pretext of being funny and have basically hijacked the sub.

It actually used to be pretty great (because r/movies is shit), we used to have kinoposting and made fun of Interstellar.

Somehow a bunch of overweight legbeards who find validation in feminist nerd culture took over the place and its become just another shitty culture war sub.

Same thing happened to /r/Gamingcirclejerk

RIP, toddposting is missed

Sometimes the parodier becomes the parodied.

why that sub is so shit?

SRS/Circlebroke entryism. It used to be decently funny (if repetitive), but then a bunch of people came in who made every post about how /r/movies was insufficiently woke.

Someone should tell them that everything about Hollywood is predominately Jewish.

Did someone say Hollywood

Lmao, imagine being a black actor, hired to portray a respectable black member of society, being yelled at by mid-twenties upper middle class white kids and accused of impeding racial progress

Showing up throughout production and being told that the finished work would be a blow against racism, believing that you're trying to make a positive difference in the world, only to be berated by w👁ke whitoids for not being progressive enough and having your greatest achievement dragged through the mud. Must be nice to cater to progressives

Nobody's mad at Ali tho - fude was in Spuderverse. He has nerd cred and immunity now

One of the worst subs on Reddit.

I just like the occasional anti capeshit jerks

To be fair, after all that pandering to minorities, women, and liberals, capping it off by giving the biggest award to a white savior movie was pretty on brand.

Where is the drama?

The Oscars really jumped the shark when Get Out was nommed for the best fucking picture, Get Out had as much depth as Scream or Pretty Woman, it was basically a crappy romcom with a done to death twist.

Then the crap fish movie fucking won the thing, a film so bad it featured the rape of some fish who was barely sentient and that wasn't even the most braindead part. It had the deaf woman, a gay painter, a black best friend and a Russian immigrant so course it's suddenly brilliant.

And now a superhero movie is fucking nominated for best picture at the OSCARS.

Next year an exact remake of Pearl Harbour with an all-trans cast will sweep the boards.

Nowhere in that rambling mess was an actual answer to my question. If you don't like the Oscars, that is fine. I am just failing to see where there is any drama here.

I haven't posted much on this sub in a few months. Maybe it is now "look at the people I don't like" or something.

I dunno why it responded to your question just a misclick. Ya I never said I don' t like any of those people but movies about oppressed groups win you awards.

The drama is in the meltdown the sub is having over the wrong period-capeshit winning the golden man award.

Meltdown? Where?

I just clicked a random link and the 4th link seems pretty dramatic to me.

At first I was willing to take your word for it, but after checking the links, you sound sort of defensive dude. Like in a "I'm NOT UPSET YOU'RE UPSET" kind of way.

Feel free to illustrate what you are talking about. I clicked all of them earlier. I see a bunch of people making fun of the awards.

Again, at this point, this sub feels like "look at those people I don't like!" Any relationship to actual drama is completely gone, which basically makes this place an alt-right SRD.

Again, at this point, this sub feels like "look at those people I don't like!"

I heard you say that the first time.

I think your big problem is "people fighting in the comments" =/= drama. That's not how we've ever seen things.

Any relationship to actual drama is completely gone,

Wait what?

which basically makes this place an alt-right SRD.

Oooooh. I get it. Taps nose. Keep on brother

Yes, alt rightists are everywhere. Stay woke!

which basically makes this place an alt-right SRD

I heard that the founder of this subreddit is actually Richard Spencer himself.

unironically posts in /r/gamingcirclejerk.

C O P E

Jesus, you guys are fuckwits.

Oh sweaty, just relax and continue to play your Nintendo games. Don't let these internet meanies get to you.

Says the guy who can't spell and runs around a message board trolling like he's on 4chan.

Yeah, I feel totally judged.

I bet you also 'feel' greasy and overweight.

Oh sweat summer child...

Oh sweaty keep whining about boogeyincels and straw misogyny

When you're so woke that a movie about ending racism together through friendship is racist because other movies were more woke about it

I'm just buttmad that we didn't get to see a post- Black Panther win shitshow nerd meltdown.

A circlejerk subreddit, about a certain subreddit, becoming a circlejerk themselves? Who would've though?

Just a reminder that the Oscars are worthless and barely indicators of quality.

The 3,000-5,000 filmmakers who vote on them happen to be the same people who make the films. They have a set of tastes so bizarrely specific, winning an Oscar can be boiled down to a formula and films get made with the explicit intention of fitting this formula. The formula tends to go like this:

  • Portrays racism as bad, from the perspective of white saviors. Films like this receive more awards and consideration than films made by minorities about the experiences of minorities. See Driving Miss Daisy winning against Do the Right Thing, for example.
  • Make it long. Like, over two hours long.
  • Base it off of a true story. It doesn't actually have to resemble said true story.
  • Glorify performance art, acting, or filmmaking in some way. Don't portray Old Hollywood as the cesspool of misogyny, abuse, drug abuse, forced abortion, and racism it really was.
  • It can't be a comedy. Even though comedy is objectively harder than drama, it is somehow not on the same level of performance. (I've acted in both. Comedy is harder.)

Since it's being voted on by filmmakers, you can also expect backroom politics to get in the way. It's why Citizen Kane hasn't won an Oscar.

I've known more coherent downies.

I am a bot. Contact for questions

6 of the 10 prestige Oscars (best picture/actor/director/etc) went to blacks or films with black leads, in a country where blacks are about 12% of the population and falling

/r/movies: NOT ENOUGH
