:chadstevejobs: iCucks and EUCels seethe :marseyseethe: as apple decides to gimp USB-C. iPhone 15 USB-C Accessories to Have Limited Data and Charging Speeds Without Apple's MFi Certification

https://old.reddit.com/r/gadgets/comments/11e3m7p/iphone_15_to_require_certified_accessories_for

Apple requires third-party accessory makers to pay a fee to get certified access to select parts and technologies like the Lightning connector. This system is called the Made For iPhone program, and it was thought to be going away thanks to USB-C, but a repeated rumor says otherwise.

In the replies, Shrimp states that Apple will limit data and charging speed for cables connected to iPhone without the MFi certification. It seems this will be allowed, as Apple will be cooperating with the EU mandate to move to USB-C, just providing an obstacle to users.

Honestly, if this is true, whatever. The worst part of USB C is that the quality of the cable is a complete unknown to people at a glance, the only way I can tell my Thunderbolt 4 cable from any other USB C cable is that the TB4 cable has a larger boot around the connector. But even that isn’t a guarantee to it’s quality, data rate, or power transmission. If mfi means that it meets a minimum spec, fine by me. If not though, then Apple can pound sand.

:marseybootlicker:

Hey everyone, let’s all be outraged about an unsubstantiated rumor regarding a product that has not even announced or released.

:marseymalding:

If this is true, would apple even be allowed to do this? I thought the whole point was to standardise the port??

Probably. They just have to allow charging over type C. Never said they can’t use proprietary sauce for faster charging, as long as standard chargers still work

:marseybigbrain:

Just buy Anker cables then they aren’t expensive and are MFi certified.

scam company omegalul

Android starts to get attractive more and more as the years pass by. Even though you dont have years of support for your OS like with Iphones, you can get the newest flagship one year after its release for huge discounts

:marseylaugh:

considering how r-slurred USB-C charging/transfer is these days, I don't blame them but at least they should stick to USB-PD which is USB-C's only saving grace

I have no problem with you sir (pls redeem:marseytunaktunak:] Ford has a long history of badge engireering, captive importing and intentionaly making cars harder to fix and i cant let another friend by one anymore. My bf's C-Max is such a boner killer in particular. :marseylongpost:

Oh honey, the C-max is like the Chevy Sonic -- just a darn shame.

Market wise, Ford is better than Chevy. Half the shit GM offered was rebadged Daewoos sold under five names and everything is so fricking locked down. Fords are at least nice and open -- you can access any AsBuilt online and they don't bother to prevent people from using the reverse-engineered Forscan to make modifications.

Increased steering wheel temperature and added lane-keeping, auto-highbeam, and massaging seats to my Flex. Can't do that on my Silverado. My Flex didn't have navigation because it was Canadian-market. Picked up a navigation APIM and changed the configuration to match my features (plus switching it to the nicer Lincoln theme).

My previous Silverado, a 2018, lacked remote start. They offer a kit which includes two remotes and a code. You pay for the code, then pay for the dealership to enter the code into their software. They can't enable remote start without that code. With a Ford, you change a 0 to a 1 and program the new remotes. Ditto adding a rearview camera -- Chevy requires a $300 custom programmer, Ford is a $15 cable off Amazon and change a single bit.

My Silverado has a camera that can determine and display how close I am to another car. It has a button that brings up a gap adjustment. All the hardware is present for adaptive cruise, but it's disabled because I don't have a sliding rear window. There's no way to change that one fricking bit to make the cruise adaptive, even at a dealer-level.

I'm a modder. I like to mod shit. Added a front parking camera and the ability to view either camera at-speed in my Flex, integrated nicely on the nav screen. The Chevy, my only option was to install a rearview mirror from a Ford, completely isolated from the rest of the electronics.

Now get off my lawn
