The bardfinnism β€œsealioning” seems to have originated as a dunk on libs??

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sealioning

Use of the term originates from a 2014 strip of the webcomic Wondermark by David Malki,[19] where a character expresses a dislike of sea lions and a sea lion intrudes to repeatedly ask her to explain her statement and attempts (in an exaggeratedly civil manner) to interrogate her views, following the characters into the privacy of their own home.[8][20] "Sea lion" was quickly verbed.

For anyone unfamiliar with crypto, one of the core phrases is "Not your keys, not your coins." Due to the high propensity for scams, many people purchase cold wallets such as a Ledger X (the equivalent of a safe) to avoid keeping their coins on exchanges where their funds could be lost for good (Quadriga/FTX etc.). In order to maintain security, you set up a regular digit related passcode and are also given a list of 20 words called a seed phrase, which is your backup passcode in case your wallet becomes corrupted/broken. People typically write these words out and store them somewhere safe as if they're lost for good, your coins are lost with it.

There is now immense drama after it has been announced that as part of the latest update, your key phrases will now automatically be given to third party vendors, will be split in three (like horcruxes :marsoyhype:), and if you lose your seed phrase, you can recover it by paying a fee to Ledger.

Ledger is preparing to launch a new service called Ledger Recover that splits a wallet recovery phraseβ€”basically, a human-readable form of the private keyβ€”into three encrypted shards and distributes them to three custodians: Ledger, crypto custody firm Coincover, and code escrow company EscrowTech. If somebody loses their recovery phrase, two of the three shards can be combinedβ€”pending an ID checkβ€”to regain access to the locked funds. Essentially, Ledger Recover is an additional safety net; for the price of $9.99 a month, it takes the jeopardy out of crypto’s version of stuffing dollars under the mattress. It’ll be available in the UK, EU, US, and Canada and come to other territories later in the year.

This may sound all well and good, but Ledger has a history of data leaks and privacy issues, including one where all customer information from people who purchased devices directly through Ledger was leaked online.

The entire Ledger subreddit is an absolute seethe goldmine at the moment, I encourage you to take a look through:

Liszt is one of the greatest musicians of all time, being incredibly talented, but also for being the first rockstar; he toured, surrounded himself with women, had endless affairs with many powerful women, and generally turned muic into a spectacle. However, in his latter years he gave up his rockstar lifestyle and dedicated his life to God as a priest and returned to focusing on his compositions. During this time (and somewhat before too, but he was mostly caught up in being the best ever) Liszt was one of the most experimental composers, with many pieces that hint heavily towards jazz, impressionism, and even at*nality :puke:

Sam Altman CEO of OpenAI cries Wolf to Senate panel, decides to play on the fear narrative (which politicians take hook, line and sinker) - - to call for licensing and regulation - - which only benefits major players, of course which huge pockets to bribe politicians even more.

If you've never seen the AAM blog, it's run by a woman named Allison Green who is an HR lady. She typically gives extremely vanilla, basic advice about resumes, hiring process, things like that, but occasionally there's a firestorm of a question and this post is one of them.

Long story short, this workplace offers women (and only women) period leave, but they don't question why it's being taken. Some enterprising moids discovered this, and have started taking period leave as well.

It's a 741 comment slapfight, most of which are seething about what the men did, or arguing with people who believe that the policy is a bad idea
