Yeah... I checked out CSM on the recommendation of everyone here and it's good. It's one of the best-written, best-animated anime I've ever seen. The themes and the degree to which they are developed are great.
It's also deeply unpleasant to watch. And not just the gore and the character deaths, the characters have problems. Really nuanced and well-written and uncomfortable problems juxtaposed against dystopian amounts of death and gore.
It's a heck of a lot harder to watch than Spy x Family, Witch from Mercury, Mob Psycho, or the new Trigun.
Still, if you're any kind of physical media collector, I can't imagine skipping over CSM. It's not even for me and I know it's got "classic" written all over it.

It is a "literally me" show.
People like it because it has insane production quality (for a TV anime), very inventive animation (e.g. zoetrope scene), pretty funny gags, OK music. and a cutesy cast. Not to mention the fact that it came out of nowhere, nobody read the source material for Bocchi. A disposable 4-koma just happened to get a great team behind it. E.g the performances:
Meanwhile with CSM, the source was beloved but a moneygrubbing studio got to it first and tried to make it a blockbuster hit: sterile direction and colour palette, adapted the boring first half of part 1, weird choices for VAs, more effort put into EDs than the actual show, hideous CGI, boring 1:1 in terms of adapting the plot... it just didn't really seem like they knew what they were doing. CSM is whacky and dumb but they tried to present it as high minded without much thought.
