I refuse to look at reddit (it offends me), so I don't know what they're saying, but women can write and draw some very good manga!

Ignore all those other recs and read Houseki No Kuni. Very unique and interesting.

When you read it, ping me when you’ve caught up :)

I've not actually read manga for quite a long time, and haven't watched anime for even longer.

Manga I really liked that isn't a super common recommendation (berserk berserk berserk)

ajin demihuman - supernatural gun / terrorism porn. The writer changed about 1/4 of the way in and it got much better after that.

if you've read dorohedoro, give dai dark a try. It's pretty similar, same author. She also did a one shot called Underground, underground that I think is brilliant

Hunter X Hunter. I like it, the guy who writes/ draws it is married to the women who made sailor moon and is also addicted to those japanese pseudogambling games.

Maybe read the jojo's? I wasn't a big fan of the earlier parts except for the nostalgia (and homosex) factor but I've really enjoyed the recent ones. Araki is a bit of a pretentious hack but it's interesting stuff.

I like junji ito. I much prefer his one shots to the lengthy things, which often get too silly. There's a great website that has links to read every single thing he's ever made, with a bit of work sometimes for broken links.

Anything by Naoki Urasawa. Monster, Pluto, 20th century boys. Art.

all of battle angel alita (also known as Gunm) and it's sequel and it's prequel-sequel. kind of cyberpunk, grim futuristic cyborg world. fair amount of body horror. Gets better and better imo. Bit of a spoiler coming up: transitions later into more space opera, I still really like it and the art is fantastic.

I'm sure I'm forgetting something:

edit: claymore (wtf was that bullshit at the end tho)

chainsaw man and muh fire punch (KINO KINO LIVE LIVE LIVE KINO).

If you liked Dorohedoro try some of Nihei Tsutomu's early stuff, Hayashida used to be his assistant so their art had quite a similar style. Blame! is the best place to start. If you like Kaiji you should definitely read Usogui, it's an incredible extreme gambling manga

Hayashida is great, Dorohedoro and Dai Dark are both better than anything Nihei Tsutomu has put out during that time

I read blame from the worst possible scans so sort of ruined it for myself. Love the idea and sense of scale. Tried to read biomega but the scans were even worse or something so stopped. Anything I've missed from him?

I've been really enjoying dai dark, but I have an extreme tolerance for "unconventional" pace/ story structure. STRAGGOTRY WARNING: mfw shimada death not real :marseyrope:

I like everything he did pre Sidonia. The art is definitely the main draw though so I'd make sure to find a decent scan. Aside from the ones you mentioned there's Noise and Abara and few one shots
