I dont normally watch anime at all but i started watching one punch man. Is this a parody or is anime just like this?

Other than watching toonami after getting home from school as a kid I've only watched berserk. I feel like there's a lot of jokes going over my head because I don't get the context. Enjoying it tho, good show
