I was out touching grass for a while.

I mainly read Manga. Black Company, Wotakoi, finally read my volume of Iruma that came in. Iruma probably is one of my favorite long running series in the last few years, though the last season had an arc that frustrated me.

I don't recommend reading Dungeon Meshi because after you do you'll realize how little every other fantasy anime and manga even try. It's a labour of love, effort and unbridled autism with incredible worldbuilding, liveable characters and great art.

I went to the big book store a few towns over and bought a bunch of manga. The final two volumes of PTSD radio which I think is a very good horror anthology manga. The second volume of Villains are Destined to Die which was very expensive due to it being in color. A rando CSM volume and 22-26 which is a collection of random fujimoto one shots. And finally an omnibus copy of 20th Century Boys which I have decided is my all time favorite so I will now spend the next few years collecting it in its entirety bit by bit. Unfortunately all the store had available was volume 4 lol.

Oh yeah my cashier was a balding :marseytrain2: who took like 10 minutes to scan my shit lol.

Heavenly Delusion is very trope heavy, but it does them all so well that even though you know what's gonna happen it's still enjoyable to watch.

The West (R) is obsessed with originality. Which is also related to its need for progress. Originality for the sake of originality often sucks. Inclusivity for the sake of inclusivity sucks. Progress for the sake of progress sucks. The East was never infected with this mind virus. That’s why there have been like 50 Gundam anime’s about teenagers getting into robots and we just now got a brown female with lesbian undertones.

Does reading manga count?

I caught up on Kaiju number eight.

I got the first 4 volumes on impulse buy, when I visited Empik, I read the rest on the Interweb-s.

Personally it's just too typical shōnen for me. Mostly fighting, and not much focus on the plot (we are 80 chapters in, the Kaiju's are still a complete mystery), also all the "I trust my friend, I don't want to be left behind, I need to get stronger" cliché stuff. Funny thing calling it a shōnen with a 30-year-old protagonist, but the structure is unmistakable. It's not bad, and if you like this stuff, I think it's well executed, plus the art is good. It's just not for me.

Reading it on regular might be a pain though, it's bi-weekly (I'm pretty sure), and the last big group fight is going on since middle last year.

Naoki Urasawa writes fascinating stories, and this one is allegedly his best.

I think :marseynoooticer: his stories are kind of r-slurred :marseyretard4: honestly. Too much asspulling and lack of focus. Pluto is my favorite :mersya: because it was already written. Master :marseyzeldalinktimeadult: Keaton is alright :marseyokay: because it's episodic but not too remarkable

Ten years ago this November I made my then-girlfriend cry with a rant about how much of media is selling something through the commodification of identities and interests. She thought I was crazy and asked why I couldn't simply enjoy the pop music about consuming products and engaging in brand loyalty (Hennessy comes to mind). I told her I was not born--and indeed, no one was--to have these conditions thrust upon them and sold as joyful pursuits.

I suspect she started crying then, not tears of amazement toward my basedness, nor because of the idea that much of her interests might have been picked up because of capitalist exploitation and its expectations of her in the role of wealth extraction, but because she realized that we were effectively done and incompatible. We broke up shortly afterward. I was just too weird for her. In her defense I am a real Tyler Durden about shit like this.

That experience is a very important one for me. Some modern applications of Marxist theory, or really any anti-capitalist analysis of certain wealth extraction schemes, just sounds nuts to regular folks. I find a tongue-in-cheek, half sarcastic joke about "being had" is the most effective sugarcoating, if anyone is interested in discussing things such as this article's focus with the uninitiated. Otherwise you might as well begin with "In the world I see, you are stalking elk through the damp canyon forests around the ruins of Rockefeller Center."
