SingleH Oshi no Ko Review.

I like to read MAL reviews, they are unprofessional, tend to be negative, and are very often entertaining since whether they are featured or not, is based on the number of votes. The negativity trend is hardly surprising, since the positive ones are usually senseless gushing that is endlessly boring compared to the fiery rants unleashed by snobby weebs. Oshi No Ko is no exception, with actually no positive review on the front page despite the 8.[something] score.

Now unlike most of the people on this site I actually liked this first season (I would give it about 7/10), but I will be the first to admit that the negative reviews dish out some really warranted criticisms. And that includes the top review.

It being a work of a prolific reviewer SingleH. It’s a woman most likely an autism man, one that is passionate, has very strongly formed opinions, most importantly is somewhat unhinged and troubled.

I have read some other reviews of hers and she frequently overindulges. I know that in today's world even articles in „professional” publications tend to turn into pity parties for the author, but this one took me by surprise so much that I chuckled (loudly). It’s not the worst I’ve seen, and is tangentially related to the review part, but it was very unexpected, especially:

(…)just as I was finishing up that brilliant, beautiful, Production IG gem and getting filled with all this inspiration, my aunt died(…)

It's really fascinating how people in modern world are sharing their personal troubles with randos on the internet, projecting their suffering out in hopes of it making the situation better. I sincerely doubt it actually alleviates the weight of the problems. Also, most importantly it makes me think less of you when you cry like that on a public forum.

Anyway, it’s honestly an interesting read and I felt like sharing it with some people. If you watched the anime I recommend the whole thing (I actually recommend all SingleH reviews, and her profile comments which are full of seething weebs), if you don’t want to bother just skip to Ever since transitioning from a young adult(…):

As for the review parts of the review. I don’t agree with many (most actually) criticisms made, but with one I could not agree more. Both protagonists die and reincarnate, but there is no connection to their previous lives, no friends, no family. On its own it’s nothing, but in context of it being anime/manga it’s an overused and tiring trope that evolved from the orphan main character when Isekai(s?) got popular. Guess one thing I have in common with SingleH is not relating to people who have absolutely no one in their lives.

Anyway. That’s my rambling over. Bajbaj.

If the pre-reincarnation family matter is going to be a thing I would have to retract this criticism. I don't see how it can be implemented well though, it's been so many years after their deaths, and we got no mention, or thought on people they left behind. I safely assumed there was no one.

Also, I don't understand the rest of you comment, it's formatted to enigmatically for me.

So actual spoilers:

Ruby/Sarina's main driving force is to meet the doc from her past life

And more significant spoilers from the current (final) arc:

The doc had no one, Sarina has a family who abandoned her due to the stress of dealing with her fight with cancer/aids

And if the name of that post didn't tip you off:

Sarina's main driving force through the manga is to meet with the Doc from her previous life and get him to fall in love with her. She becomes an idol for this reason alone. In the most recent chapter she found out that Aqua IS the Doc, leading to it ending on the her going, 'Remember our promise?' while looking like Ai. Doc did not hear this line but it's copium to assume this isn't a plot point that is somehow going to be addressed, most likely platonically but if Aka goes the incest route it'd be really fricking funny

The complaint sort of holds true for Aqua's character I'll confess, it just serves to make him """Older""" then the rest of the cast. Ruby/Sarina sort of stays on the sidelines doing nothing of relevance until a certain very stupid event about 2/3rd of the way through the manga. Her finding the Doc's corpse, which in of itself isn't bad as much as HOW she finds it

The manga was alright at first then turns to shit after the theatre arc (which itself drags) However the final arc is shaping up to be an actual roller coaster ride. Most places on the internet reading the manga have been happily slobbering the Author's peepee though until the latest chapter.

I didn't think about the doctor angle, since it's not really someone left behind, but for her it is, so yeah.

If the ending is going to be bad, bombing it with incest is the way to go. I don't think he will go there, but it would be better than it's just being poorly written. I can't judge it for now, since I'm anime only (despite being spoiled on many things), but after AoT ending I no longer care about destination, and just enjoy the ride.

So I'm waiting for S2, and when it turns to shit I'm just going to join team haters.

I'll give Aka props there and there alone: most hackfraud Isekai author's make the past life bit of no relevance, oftentimes not even making their characters goal to get back home. I barely want to call Oshi no Ko "Isekai" because it's not generic fantasy schlock and instead an r-slur's take on Perfect Blue with all the good parts replaced with "Twitter is Bad" and a 'Mystery' that bombs hard. Also lots of telenovela melodrama that comes off as funny because of how poorly it gets executed.

At least the revenge part still has potential.
