Watched quite a lot of stuff again this week:
'Im in love with the villainess': its okay, still waiting for the last episode, but so far it doesnt seem like anything really will be resolved by the end of the season. Id watch another season, but if they leave it at that its pretty meh. But well see, maybe the last episode surprises.
'Blue Drop: Tenshi-tachi no Gikyoku': only watched the very first episode and tbh can barely remember anything cause I was drunk when I watched it. Anyone got opinions on that show? Idk if I should restart it.
'The Most Heretical Last Boss Queen: From Villainess to Savior': was okay, nothing special though, and imo took itself too seriously sometimes.
'I'm the Villainess, So I'm Taming the Final Boss': I liked this one, decent romcom. Would watch another season.
'Why Raeliana Ended Up at the Duke's Mansion': I liked this one too, a bit surprising after I initially disliked the animation, but it was a nice romance. Would watch another season.
'Tomo-chan is a girl': was okay, good enough romcom if youre bored.
'The Dreaming Boy Is A Realist': only watched the first episode and it was weird and cringy, doubt Ill give it another chance.
'Masamune-kun no Revenge': I watched the first season years back and only recently noticed they made another season. Rewatched season 1, which is okay, though it definitly improved by getting another season with a real conclusion. I liked season 2 more, it concludes the show nicely, but (major spoiler)
I kinda hoped the blonde girl got with masamune in the end, not adagaki. It still was enjoyable though.'My Love Story With Yamada-kun At Level 999': Good romance, I liked it.
'In/Spectre': I rewatched season 1, havent seen season 2 yet. Season 1 is fine, good enough that I will watch the second season too.
'Tsundere Akuyaku Reijou Liselotte to Jikkyou no Endou-kun to Kaisetsu no Kobayashi-san': Im halfway through this one, its meh. I dont hate it, but its just not very interesting or anything. Imo it might have been better to remove the real life commentator stuff and just focus on the isekai romance. Yeah, that would have removed the animes 'unique' aspect, but still. Also idk if its just me, but the animation seems pretty bad imo. Ill probably finish it anyway since Im halfway through already and its not that bad, but I wouldnt recommend it.
Ill probably start 'I'm Giving the Disgraced Noble Lady I Rescued a Crash Course in Naughtiness', sounds like it might be either exactly my type of shit or gigacringe.
@Merryvann pin pls

They early thread last week messed up my posting schedule so brace yourselves...
First, Shogun. It was isekai. No seriously, straight up has all the hallmarks of a power fantasy isekai LN. Dude get reborn in another world. Uses his modern western knowledge to befriend the the local king. Then saves his life multiple times. Gets a noble title and accompanying land, women and servants. Mogs people with his tall statue and woes women with his big white peepee. Oh, and the best looking women are described as being barely five foot tall . It can't get anymore japanese than that, neh?
It was a good book tho. If you plan to read it, it definitely helps to know the broad strokes and the important characters of the warring states period.Ofc, Toranaga/Tokugawa is the real MC all along.
Second. Ascendance of a Bookworm part 3 anime announcement. Very good. I really didn't think this would happen. I would have preferred if they had kept the same studio. After all, the quality issue were not due to the studio but the budget. Doubt Wit could have done better. And ultimately I prefer substance over style and the previous studio achieved that.
Third. MMy Instant Death Ability Is So Overpowered, No One in This Other World Stands a Chance Against Me! Vol 14 Final. It was good ending to a good series. Over all the I'd rate this series as one of my favorites. Don't forget the anime on January 5th!
Fourth. Magical Explorer vol 6... I read this between Shogun and Instant death and ugh, yeah. Not so good in comparison. It might be that I'm not reading the entire series in one go and so forget names and what characters look like. But, it might just be a bit on the bad side. Still have 25% left to read which I'm gonna go do right now.
Fifth. I hate villainess shows. Dropped Tearmoon Empire this season and the worst anime episodes I've ever watched was the first two of My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!. Only time I've ever felt like my time was stolen. Not recommended.

I still remember you dropping Bookworm halfway thru season 3 one year ago... Don't think I've forgiven you.
But the Light Novel is divided into five parts. The anime has so far adapted part one and two over 3 seasons. Part 1 being when she is poor and part 2 being when she joins the Temple. Part 3 is how she starts living like a noble as Aub Sylvester's adopted daughter and becomes high bishop in the temple. The story really opens up at this point, with magic and some travel and of course more book making and merchant meetings and more retainers. Hmm, as I'm writing this I get a desire to read the series all over again.

I read Shogun years ago and I still just think about it on occasion. I'd also recommend reading more Clavell. King Rat is another one that stuck with me.

have you read Modern Villainess: It's Not Easy Building a Corporate Empire Before the Crash
its actually pretty good and has nothing to do with the villainess trope

I've heard about it but not read it. Only 4 volumes and no new volume for almost a year in jp. Or maybe it's complete? I do like books with meetings and dealings more so than fighting. Shogun ended up being that too which was great.

So did you watch the 1980 miniseries too? Or just read the novel? Both are extremely good IMO, even for a dated work.
I just saw the trailer for the remake and was very concerned until I heard them speaking in japanese like the original one. Looks a bit more dramatic and action packed than the source material but likely just mocked up as bait for the trailer though. The novel is truly well done and a great read with good enough in it's treatment of historical accuracy imo

Just the book so far. Don't think I'll watch the old series, does not seem worth with the new one arriving so soon.
For being written before the internet I have to agree. The samurai honor stuff is apparently exaggerated and some of the japanese wrong. But that's not too bad. I mean, how many books on japanese history would an average '70s library have after all...

Haha I hear you, but if you change your mind lmk what you think! It has John Rhys-Davies aka Gimli in it as one of the
priestscatholic anjinsand Richard Chamberlain KILLS it as Blackthorne along with a wizened
Toshiro Mifune as Toranaga
Its VERY close to the book as well, which I'm concerned the new netflix shit will frick up, what better way to compare and contrast!
