Hi rDrama! I was previously on a long break from watching any anime, but over the last week I watched Kino's Journey. It's an episodic show about a moe girl with a talking motorcycle who travels to a wide variety of "countries" (city-states). Typically, each country has at least one bizarre or extreme custom which leads to some interesting conflict or discussion. I liked it, which is to be expected since I'm a sucker for anything vaguely contemplative as long as it's not awful. A lot of the stories are pretty abstract with characters that are obviously symbols, giving it the tone of a gloomier and more violent version of The Little Prince. In terms of anime, it could probably best be compared to Mushi-shi, out of things I've watched. The episodes are not strictly in chronological order and rather seem to be roughtly ordered by increasing absurdity of the settings. Overall, I'd give it a good 8/10, maybe 9 if I'm generous. The good episodes are really good - my favorites were 2 and 10 - but some of the stories don't really have room to breathe and are over almost as soon as the exposition finishes. On the other hand, the colosseum story took up 2 whole episodes and it wasn't very good.

In addition to the show, there are 2 movie shorts and an "episode 0" special. All of these can basically be treated as extra episodes and watched at any time. The first movie was ok but nothing special, and the second was pretty weak and had some awful 3d stuff in it. The episode 0 special was decent and fit well with the rest of the show. There is also a 2017 remake of the show, which I didn't watch.

I haven't watched Hetalia, so I can't comment on that. I liked Kino's Journey, though.

That's nice sweaty. Why don't you have a seat in the time out corner with Pizzashill until you calm down, then you can have your Capri Sun.

I am so glad Solo Leveling is an anime and not an aniwhe or whatever the gays would call animated manwha. The only language more unpleasant to listen to than Korean might be Mandarin.

Thank you! Someone else who recognises how stupid Chinese is.

I am glad Tsukimichi decided to delay showing the other heroes to second season and focus S1 just on Makoto.

Shin no Nakama is starting to do that thing in slow life fantasy and isekai that annoy me, the MC has to start doing serious shit. I wanted a comfy show about Rit and Red doing random crap around town and being a cute couple.

Synduality: Noir comes with a twist that somehow that 200 years into the future, with an apocalypse of strange alien like creatures, Subaru still exists and is making vehicles still.

Dungeon Meshi either you already know and are watching or don't care.

Metallic Rouge had a very strong second season with a decent set of background info and spent time fleshing out Rouge and Naomi. It will either be the best thing this season or totally trash.

This season is solid for ecchi:

Mato Seihei no Slave for those who like femdom :#marseycoomer3:

Kekkon Yubiwa Monogatari seems to be cuter ecchi so far and for those who like polyamory, :#marseycoomer2:

Mahou Shoujo ni Akogarete for those who like applying bdsm and magical girls, its also really good. :#marseycoomer2:

Isekai Onsen Paradise is an isekai about a guy who just goes to onsen. Its short 5 minute or so episodes.

Beyond that I am continuing to watch the final season of Jashin and You're Under Arrest.

If there's any car that's going to survive the apocalypse, it's a subaru forester

Kept watching the seasonal anime, they're still good:

  • Solo Leveling is building up pretty well, and the adaptation of the manga is excellent

  • Slow Life remains very comfy, and I like how the main couple actually do couple things instead of being extreme prudes

  • Mashle S2 is good

  • Firefighter Daigo's 2nd cour is still good

  • Shangri-la Frontier is building up its 2nd cour for a big fight. Ganbare, Psyger-0!

  • Dungeon Meshi remains excellent

  • Ragna Crimson is slowly progressing through the big fight of Season 1. Very retro of them

  • Synduality: Noir is moving the plot along nicely

  • My Instant Death Ability is OP is pretty good. It's no KageJitsu but it's solid

  • Tsukimichi remains pretty fun

  • Watching The Fire Hunter S2. You can tell the budget has been reduced (or they're saving it) because of the use of paintings to fill gaps, but they're very pretty so I'll forgive it. S1 was good, so I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of S2

Non seasonal stuff:

  • Finished Slayers. Felt very generic but I think that's because it's a very early anime that others have iterated on after. Also felt very like a D&D party. It was good, but I'm gonna watch any of the other seasons.

  • Picked up The Apothecary Diaries and I'm enjoying it so far

  • Gonna watch Genocyber tonight, it looks right up my alley

You should watch Bravern if you're already watching most of the current seasons shows.

>The Fire Hunter S2

Haven't started it yet, but how could they drop the budget even further?! S1 was already a total mess of animation.

There's a few scenes that aren't even animated, they just have a very pretty picture for a few seconds

What's the difference between season and non-seasonal?

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Non-seasonal means stuff that's either finished airing, or I'm not watching weekly as it airs. I realised I out the fire hunter in the wrong section so I've swapped it.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Oh ok, I thought by non-seasonal you meant anime that was released outside of the seasonal schedules

Slayers

Slayers was fantastic, but I think you hit the nail on the head. It was a trend setter on some things that are now stock tropes and plot elements.

Genocyber

Was pretty good from what I remember of it.
