Bleach doesn't even feel like a real show but knowing the ending actually makes it a far better show. The premise is weird as frick even for anime. Grim reapers are not only real but they protect humanity from what are basically corrupted spirits. There's a whole illuminati level hierarchy that runs the soul society and just now in the post blood war are the characters finally going to heck, a place alluded to since like episode 1. It's just such a bizarre series where it feels like the lore was invented in the very chapters they debuted in. The first arc even makes it seem like a slice of life show with mysticism but nope it turns into a battle shonen. I feel like if I would explain the plot of bleach I would say "but actually" roughly 25 times. I remember watching this as a kid and being so confused about the plot. It makes a lot more sense just reading summaries online. If you want to know a super short summary, Ichigo was basically created to be the ultimate living weapon. Everyone (good and bad) has their own agenda so they manipulate and lie to him which pushes the plot forward. Imagine an easily manipulated noob controlling a max level mmorpg account with maxed out legendary equipment. The entire show is just him figuring out the controls and mechanics. That's Ichigo in a nutshell. The entire show under this concept makes WAYYYY more sense. Who is your favorite character? I think Grimmjow for me personally. That seems like a cop out but yeah he's cool.
Bleach is an okay anime but like 95% of the anime makes no sense without the context of all the plot twists

I always felt like he started with a core idea that was pretty decent (albeit not too different from Yu Yu Hakusho, at least as far as the basics), then he just took all the cool character designs he'd created over the years and just tried to figure out a way to shove them all in.
I do kinda get what you're saying, though. After the first few dozen episodes, they massively expand the cast, then there's several big twists all in a row, then they sorta repeat that a few more times. The plot is weirdly more compelling when summarized than following it week to week, though I think a lot of that is because Kubo spent a lot of time having no idea where he was going, so a lot of the story progresses slowly, even by the standards of shonen action anime.

Kubo is primarily an artist who strings together cool shit without actually giving a frick if everything makes sense. This whole thing was just a case of an artist running a purely vibes based shounen. The first season of wacky Japanese ghost busters was pretty good for what it was, as was perfectly encapsulated by the OP
He kinda reminds me of an even lazier version of Kojimbo, with that same sort of thing of trying to be someone you're not (cinematographer who makes video games, and a character and fashion designer who makes manga). He's sort of like the opposite of ONE, but there's better examples.

The way I see it, in the beginning, during the substitute shinigami arc, he had no clue where the story is going. Then he actually sat down and planned out the whole Aizen arc in advance. I mean, it was pretty consistent, and what is remarkable for a shonen, he kept the power creep in check until right before the finale.
And after that, with Fullbringer and the Quincy arc, he went back to making shit up on the fly.

lmao I have known about this photo as early as like 2006-2008, I must have first seen it on Uncyclopedia, but for almost 20 years I had no idea what anime was on his shirt, only this year almost 2 decades later, that I found out that the drawing in his shirt comes from some weird artwork drawn by Kishimoto where it is apparently supposed to show the main cast of Naruto as early 2000s wiggers/punks/rappers/NYC cholos or something.
Given how weird and no context this art looks, for almost 20 years this art has been circulating around the internet as allegedly being the early concept art of the three main characters, but in reality, this is false
, this was drawn by Kishimoto for some bonus/collectors edition years after the manga was already out and became a huge success, the real true and honest early concept art of the protagonists is publicly available, and the characters are almost identical to their final designs:
