The author is actually terrible when it comes to drawing, it's legit ugly looking, which is only made worse by the complex designs of most characters.

There have been fewer than 100 chapters since the anime ended 10 years ago, because the author suffers from severe health issues, and the pace is horribly slow. In fact there hasn't been a new chapter in nearly two years now. He's probably never gonna finish it.

They fixed up a lot of the art from the worst chapters in the tanks (legit redid half of chimera arc it was real bad) but the new arc is peak shonen and definitely worth reading.
